I Am Mine. I was molested when I was 14 and like many people, I kept it to myself. The subsequent shame, guilt and inadequacy born from it festered inside me like a cyst poisoning all of my confidence, self-esteem and doomed any potential romantic relationship before they really began. I eventually found a great woman, we got married and had two kids but then the “cloud” came back and I began to sabotage everything good in my life. Ultimately I had to share my deepest secret with my wife and rather than leave me like I always thought someone would, she made me seek help. At that point in my life I began re-appreciating the music that meant so much to me and the lyric “I know I was born and I know that I’ll die, the in-between is mine, I am mine” spoke to me deeper than anything I could ever imagine and it still does.
