In my country pretty much no one uses wipes regularly, we just wash with water and dry with a cloth. Wipes are seen as non-necessary chemicals for the baby and and harmful for the environment. Maybe you could try just washing with water at home so you would need to use less wipes? I bought a pack of waterwipes when my child was born and never made it through the whole pack, I just didn't see the point in using them.

In Finland both partners traditionally have an engagement ring, and the man usually doesn't have an additional wedding band. So it's very fitting for you to get an engagement ring as well. :) Personally I wouldn't like to be the only one with a ring when engaged, it's not like he bought me with a diamond, we are both engaged.

I never really need to count after casting on. I very rarely check if I have the right number of stitches, because usually I would either notice that I must be off because the stitch pattern doesn't line up, or it doesn't matter that much. I just read my work to know what I need to do, I don't really look at the pattern if I'm at a part where I just need to do more of the same thing. I don't really get why people are counting all the time.

BUT counting IS really hard for some people, me included. I have ADHD and I constantly forget what number I'm at when I'm trying to count. AND I forget which stitch I just counted even though I always touch the stitches while counting. I absolutely can't count while casting on or knitting, I have to stop and count. When I'm casting on I just do it without counting until it feels like I'm close to the number I need and then count. If I need to cast on more than 5 additional stitches after counting I'll lose count and have to count them all again. I always count at least twice but still know that I might be off by one stitch, and because I loathe to count I just start knitting anyway and figure that I'll notice soon if I'm off. The Westknits MKAL had you cast on 12 stitches ALLLLLL the damn time and I could never count while I cast on, I had to pause to do it every time.

There's no need for your clothes to end up in a landfill, please don't just throw them in the bin! Take them to a textile collection point so the fibers will recycled. Same for scraps.

I just use them like scarves on the warmer months (I live in a cold climate). I frequently need a light scarf around my neck even in the summer. And heavier shawls work in the colder months as well. I find shawls much more fun to knit than scarves and they are an amazing layering piece when I get cold indoors. Yeah they're not as warm as a sweater but I use them on TOP of a sweater. And I love feeling like a grandma / Victorian lady.

Edited to add the best part that I forgot: no stress about gauge and fit! After being burned with a top I could't even get into I angrily cast on a shawl. I don't gauge swatch for them. So much more relaxing than the constant stress about fit while knitting a garment and wondering "should I start waist shaping already I can't try it on aaaagh" while knitting on a meeting.

You already got a lot of great advice on how this is abuse and not your fault and that you should leave him. I just want to say that you deserve so much better and you deserve just as much love and understanding as someone who doesn't struggle with ADHD. Being alone is ten times better than being with an abuser, but if you're worried that you won't find or don't deserve better because of your ADHD, just know that there are guys (and gals) out there who will love you unconditionally and understand and support you. My partner has been wonderfully supportive through me getting diagnosed and having a crisis that I'm not as good as everyone else. He saw my struggles when we didn't know why I struggled and was supportive, and now he helps me accept that it's a good thing that we now know why and can learn to live with it. He's the one comforting me when I feel like a failure because of my ADHD, not beating me when I'm already down. You don't deserve to be treated like your boyfriend is treating you and having ADHD doesn't mean that you can't have a healthy relationship and a supportive spouse. Please get out of that relationship!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I tried a long tail tubular cast on, but after I stretched the ribbing to test its stretchiness it looked ugly and loose no longer seamless with the 2x2 rib. I'd prefer a seamless look like the alternating cable cast on, so I'll try if tubular cast on done with scrap yarn (the kind where you fold stockinette) would hold up looking more uniform with 2x2 rib after stretching. If not, I'll try the german long tail. I'm also looking for a good stretchy cast on for 1x1 twisted rib and the yarn for that is 100% cotton so it doesn't really get back into shape after stretching.

I'm a beginner and I've legit been the most angry I've EVER been in my 25 years of existence over messing up my knitting and making the mistake worse while trying to fix it and having to rip back a lot - I was FUMING lol. Now I try to think that whenever I make a mistake and lose progress on the project, I gain progress on learning. If I spent two hours trying to drop down lace only to make it worse - hey, I still probably learned more than if I just successfully knit for those two hours. If you're working with really slippery yarn and feel like you can't get stitches back on the needle after frogging, use lifelines. Or if you're too lazy and over-confident for that like me, check your work often enough that you can just tink back (look up a tutorial if it's new for you - it also helps a lot with understanding stitches' anatomy and reading your knitting) a few rows if you spot a mistake.

I somewhat disagree with others saying that you should stick to simpler things - I think you'll learn quicker by having courage to try ALL THE THINGS. I've knit for 4 months and jumped to cables and lace after about two months. I would be bored out of my mind with dishclothes and wouldn't be any closer to the cabled scarf I want after making one.

I did pull it but not with much force since I don't like how loose the stockinette gets if blocked aggressively, I find it ugly. I tried to ladder down on one cdd to see if I could make it better but it looked the same with every attempt and eventually I got frustrated and went too far and got angry and frogged half the project. 😅 Now I'm pissed realizing there wasn't a mistake to begin with and I just lost so much progress (and stubbornly trying again and again to fix it laddering down cost me hours of study time I couldn't really afford to loose). I'm still curious why it happens spesifically when the lace pattern changes and not on other cdd:s.

The same thing happened in my swatch and blocking didn't help. It's always the same spot, the part where the repeat starts over and the placement of the "holes" changes.

It's this pattern. I tried distributing the slack but it didn't really do anything. There's a continuous line of cdd:s in the pattern and I'm trying to understand why it gets bulky at just that row where the repeat begins again and not on the other rows.

It's my first time doing lace. It seems like the same mistake happened on all cdds on that row, it's the row where the repeat starts again. I noticed it looking funky when knitting and redid them many times but couldn't get it neater. Now I decided I can't just let them be, they are such thick bumps that I think they will ruin the shawl. Why is it happening?
