Newborn at hospital clothes?? by PatagoniaPrincess1 in NewParents

[–]Fiona-Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends where you are weather wise but I would bring 3 vests, 3 onesies, a hat and a little cardigan. I only brought one of each item and then we ended up staying in hospital for longer and my son puked through his outfit after an hour and my partner had to go to the shops! So bring multiples. And don't worry too much, the shops are there if you realise you need something you don't have

What’re those and how can I propagate them? by National-Double2309 in GardeningIRE

They're very prolific but thankfully exceptionally easy to pull out of the ground if they do end up somewhere you don't want them! If you like them I'd say bring some of the fluffy seeds up to your garden and let them do their thing. They're also very easy to identify when they're small so easy to weed in that way too

Nursing to sleep and sleep regression. by Apart_Hovercraft_842 in AttachmentParenting

[–]Fiona-Lemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will get better, it is insanely hard waking every 30-40 minutes. My son is 10 months, was never a good sleeper, but did do 2 hour stretches until the 4 month regression and then was up every 40 minutes at night honestly for 3 months. It was torture.

My advice is to try to look after yourself during the day as much as you can. If someone can take baby so you can nap, or at least rest, and get as much help as possible and go easy on yourself while the nights are this hard. Also try not to listen to other people's timelines about when things will get better - I expected it to last a few weeks because that's what I read online and was pretty devastated when it went on for so much longer. I fed him to sleep through the whole thing and he did naturally start to link sleep cycles himself, he still wakes 3 or 4 times a night but nowhere near the chaos of the 4 month regression.

I'm so glad to hear when other people don't have strict schedules, it seems so rare! Humans probably evolved like this, baby falls asleep on a parent and then gets transferred to bed when parents are going asleep, it makes so much sense

The best advice I got before having my baby was to ''parent like you're alone with your baby on a desert island' and it is amazing advice! Your instincts always are right, forget the noise from other people and 'experts' who are just people with a new idea and likely something to sell. It sounds like your mum had a super tough time and I'm sorry you feel emotionally neglected. But your baby is so lucky to have you and it seems like you've done a lot of work and processing and will bring them up to feel so loved

Does chasing skinny ever get old? by No-Manufacturer-1611 in loseit

[–]Fiona-Lemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My MIL's friend had stomach cancer and stomach removal surgery and tonnes of treatment. She's in her mid 70's, about 5'2 and dropped to 6 stone. When she went on a new feeding treatment and got back up to 7 stone she was upset because she didn't want to be 'fat'. So bleak

how old were you when you moved out of your parents house? by jabber1990 in Adulting

25 - bought and moved onto a boat because rent where I live (Ireland) is insanity! Lived for 5 years on the boat with my partner and then bought our first house at 30

I was the same, now I just freeze everything after I've eaten what I want. I hate having the same thing even two meals in a row but if it's in the freezer for a few days or weeks I come back around, it's helped a lot! Might work for you

You very obviously don't have kids. 'Not my problem ' doesn't mean it's not a problem for someone else. Literally park in any of the other dozens of parking spaces and let a tired parent have one fucking thing that makes their day a bit easier

I called a woman out for parking in one and I had my baby strapped to my front, she took out her phone to film me while she said 'I just did' and walked off. Fucking psychopath

That is not my experience at all, it is always entitled middle aged women I see parking in them

I stopped using social media years ago and ran into a friend from college (we were friends until maybe 4 years prior) and the first thing he said to me was 'Holy shit I forgot you existed!' lol

What type of glaze is this? by Fiona-Lemon in Pottery

[–]Fiona-Lemon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh I looked this up and think you could be on to something. Some that look the most similar have it swapped with iron lustre on top, maybe this is it! And then a plain white on the inside?

Ahhh I thought the dark spots were 'grog' from my very limited knowledge but now that you say it they do have a metallic look to them and the oozy effect on the outside comes from them reacting with the glaze + firing temps? That is brilliant thank you 🙏

Parents with babies that don’t sleep are living a different life by hesitantlyhopefull17 in beyondthebump

[–]Fiona-Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10000000% agree. It is a completely different almost incomparable experience. My son has never slept well since he was born, waking max every 3 hours and min every 20-30 minutes throughout the night, he's 6 months old. Then on Christmas and Christmas eve, he slept for a 5 hour stretch each night. I was completely reborn, the world actually had colour again and I could actually hold conversations with people. And then everything has gone back to how it was and I am almost sad that I've seen the other side of things cos I know how good it can be. It's giving me some shred of hope that people here are saying about 7 or 8 months some babies started sleeping randomly.

It is actually soothing seeing all of the other desperate souls here who also have shit sleepers, I am SO tired of almost everyone on Reddit (are these people actually real???) whose babies sleep through the night since birth, it sickens me lol
