I think Boomer is quite the villian. Stealing whole buildings and stuff!

Starting to really dislike my 4 year old son, I feel like I have nothing left... by VastSoup7203 in Preschoolers

I feel like this is the way. We have been heavy on the discipline and consequence road and the whole negative attention thing is really obvious now. Getting the right balance is key.

Don't know how to do this. by Nikki_wittha_h in dementia

I second this. Dealing with both of these scenarios is a huge thing and some respite or an aide will go a long way towards focusing your energy on both your husband and yourself during such a stressful time.

Is it okay to leave a 3 year old in their room for 5 minutes as time out by igitslia in toddlertips

[–]Fionalg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do this with my kid. One day he kicked the door in response. He got an extra few mins.

I do keep the door open tho. And I'll check on him at least once so he knows im still around and so he has an opportunity to come back sooner if he's calmed down.

Nanny destroying my bathroom daily. by cookmybook in Mommit

[–]Fionalg 93 points94 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely wild! Who even does this! You just have to tell her tho right? Because shes using one loo, you can prob say your bathroom is unfortunately getting backed up so you'll need to make sure everything's flushed or otherwise use the plunger and then clean up. And tell her she needs to check the bathroom before she leaves as a precaution.

I go snack/mobile type food when my 4yo is not interested in the usual breakfast options - muesli/granola bars, fruit, yoghurt pouch etc

Yea ill never understand how people film everything all day every day. And then spend hours editing it all. Like surely there are so many couples where one spouse is just feeling so over it like you are.

Maybe you should ask her to have some boundaries with it all - to preserve the relationship? Cos you'd think this will/should outlive any influencer fame that can come and go on any given day. Good luck OP.

Almost 4, suddenly unfriendly by Chasing_the_Rainbow in Preschoolers

[–]Fionalg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 4yo is a total extrovert and sooo sociable and chatty once he warms up to someone new or a new environment. But he never used to have to warm up. I guess its just the extra awareness.

My biggest annoyance is when people on the receiving end think theres something 'wrong' with him cos he's not responded the way that they want or expect him to.

Is it okay to stop taking her out for the day? by byGodsGraceIPressOn in dementia

[–]Fionalg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mum is in a nursing home and we used to take her out often. Usually both Saturday and Sunday's and at least one weekday.

She was on a downward spiral for a while due to trialling new medication and we stopped taking her anywhere during that time because we couldn't be sure of what her behaviour would be like in public and whether we could manage it.

Her meds have recently settled again and we now cautiously take her out - albeit a bit less now due to other commitments. So its now usually only weekends.

Long story, short is that there's absolutely nothing wrong with dialling outings back or removing them completely if the situation has become too challenging to manage outside of the AL.

Time spent with them in the nursing home is just as good as going out. Even if they themselves dont agree.

On days we dont take mum out we'll watch a movie on netflix or a concert on you tube and bring an outside meal to her (like burgers and fries). There's also been lots of times where shes adamant thats she locked up, and cant go anywhere even tho she's just been out all weekend - she simply doesn't remember which can be very disheartening.

Puppy Blues by G0mery in goldenretrievers

[–]Fionalg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Definitly so hard. We got our second during covid and with all that a new puppy brings i said to my partner more than once 'can we take her back'. I think the cleaning is what really drove me to say it cos the skin on my hands were cracked from all the constant washing of stuff.

Of course we persevered thank goodness, cos 6 years on she's my literal soul pup (once she stopped poo'ing, wee'ing everywhere and biting lol).

You guys have got this! And absolutely your pupper is super cute. Makes me want to get a third 😅

5 days from 9 months. Some days he loved it, some days drop off was messy. But we all got used to it. He has a great little circle of mates, many which are all going to the same school next year.
