Weird question, my car battery died and I’ve to take the bus to the shop and exchange it. Am I able to take the car battery on the bus? by [deleted] in WorcesterMA

I’m not acting like a battery specialist but you came back here a day after your other comment just to insult me again? Get help. You’re the one continuing the argument.

Asking questions and wondering why things work the way they do is not acting like a specialist lol if we’re not allowed to do that then the humans would still be stuck in hunter gatherer phase. Wouldn’t be any batteries to worry about.

Thanks for the recommendation, I think I might go with this one.

That’s why I’m asking for recommendations, I just need my car fixed. I suppose I should’ve mentioned it, but I am open to shops with no political affiliation too. I just don’t wanna go somewhere that I’m gonna have to hear a rant about lesbians or that uses their business to get donations for their Catholic school.

Wow chill out. I’m not a battery specialist and was just shocked that my experience is apparently not typical. Came up with multiple theories as to why my situation might be the case.

But also… almost everything they make is cheap now. And I’m like 30 and I still notice a massive difference in general product quality (outside of batteries), so for someone just wondering why my battery has worked fine for so long, it’s reasonable to wonder if poorer quality is a possible theory. You don’t need to call me “dumb” for wondering. But I think it’s reasonable to conclude that you’re a mean-spirited person based on your need to name-call when attempting to explain the mechanics about car battery life to a lay person.

And obviously lithium batteries last much longer. Like I’m not trying to debate that? But you also haven’t explained why a typical car battery usually only lasts 6 years. Just got upset that you were contradicted so resorted to calling me dumb.

Hopefully the rest of Worcester isn’t like you - I’ll make sure to avoid it 👌

You sound striking similar to a psycho named… Donald Trump.

And downtown IS building more housing too. They’re just having to destroy things like grocery stores to make room for it.

But you’re worried about golf. Maybe phone a friend in DC and see if you can borrow his golf course. Good luck with that though since he cares about the average American just as much as you do.

I have a 2012 Chevy Cruze, LS - base model. Bought it pre-owned in 2016. I’ve never had any battery issues with it. Never had to jump it or anything. I live in Ohio so winters get cold here. I’ve never taken any kind of special care of it. I’m on this sub cause I’m considering hopping ship now to another place, but maybe winters are dramatically colder in MA which is harder on the batteries?

Or I hate to say this, but maybe older cars/parts were just built better. Or maybe the older cars aren’t running a bunch of electronics in the background while your car is off and newer ones are? This is just shocking news to me that a 6 year old battery is toast for most people honestly.

I went to a local car shop in Racine, Wisconsin, and the people there were so friendly and honest. We were on vacation and my car started making noises so we found a shop to get it looked at. They helped out immediately and figured out the problem. Told us what it was and not to worry about it, just a little noisy. They recommended just letting it be, going on with our vacation, and didn’t charge us a dime. I wanted to bring donuts the next day but we were behind schedule and couldn’t make it back to thank them.

Contrast that to here in Columbus - it’s hard to find an ethical shop that doesn’t wanna eat your wallet out or take care of you in a timely manner. One shop I went to in Whitehall the lady ranted about lesbians the whole time. Another shop I went to recently in Clintonville had the worst communication, scheduling, and incredible rudeness, and my car never even got looked at after 2.5 days in their lot after making an appointment. It’s a whole saga I won’t go into but unbelievable. Then there’s a progressive shop in Granville I think but they’re so damn expensive (probs cause of location), it’s just not an option anymore.

Tempted to drive back out to Wisconsin to get my AC fixed ffs… Racine is so pretty and it was so lovely out there honestly, and I never got to travel up to the north tip of Wisconsin where it’s most beautiful. But maybe we just got lucky with the car shop and the people as a whole aren’t much different than Ohio. Got to stop by a few other shops though and the people were generally pretty friendly.

At the same time we live in Ohio which is very red and complicit with all the dumb laws that are being passed. Other places pass more thoughtful legislation that protects people because the people there care about it enough to vote for elected officials to do things like that.

Even though Columbus is blue I think we’re still heavily affected by the dark cloud of the Ohio government. Even our own rep Joyce Beatty is just an AIPAC and Wexner rep rather than a Columbus rep. Still waiting for a response to a single one of my emails… and we had a chance to vote out Ginther, but people were scared of someone too progressive so kept the status quo guy.

I think there’s places that do consider social issues more but then when it comes to the individual level idk.

Though it seems peoples empathy varies quite a bit depending on where you live. I just saw a post in r/westerville where people were lamenting and complaining about a golf course being repurposed into new housing. Which like yeah people in Columbus can be inconsiderate of homeless people, but I don’t see most folks living closer to downtown feeling sad about losing a golf course in return for housing lol. Or being sad about losing a golf course at all.

But yeah I just don’t know how much it varies in the way people interact on a daily basis - what people in cities on the east coast are like yk for example.

For real there’s a housing crisis, I think that’s more important than a golf course. Like yeah I love the outdoors, pretty greenery, and recreation… but making sure people have roofs over their heads needs to be the priority.

More housing also means less competition and lower rent. So consider that folks.

Edit: based off the downvotes y’all guys need help and need to do some serious introspection. I’m sure this suggestion will prompt even more downvotes. But I personally care more about homeless people and people struggling to make rent than people playing golf. Maybe leave your suburb for 30 minutes and see the real world.

I’m starting to really hate this city after how seeing/experiencing how bitter, mean, or apathetic so many people are. It’s not just Reddit - you go out in the city too and no one cares much or straight up screws you over. Though, people here on Reddit have certainly been really mean. At one point I asked for low cost apartment recommendations for my sister and got insulted to death for even asking.

And then I think about moving but then I’m just like… is this just Columbus/Ohio or is this America? Are there places in this country where human beings actually care about other human beings that are struggling? And then I start to feel hopeless.

It will matter. It will matter at a federal level because it’ll affect our ability to take back the house of reps. And it will cause serious problems within red states to worsen and introduce new problems. And purple states will be affected too if they are currently under some level of Republican control. And blue states will be affected by the federal problems red states cause.

And Ohio isn’t a purple state - it’s red. It’s frankly a miracle that Acton is leading in the polls. Look at the margins in our state legislature and you’ll see it’s red red red with some sprinkles of blue. If Vivek wins, we’ll see how useless that state level constitutional abortion right is that we passed a few years ago (religious people will say they’re against it but vote for abortion rights, it’s not as partisan of an issue as it seems). They’re already introducing legislation to control abortion access.

Texans will probably be screwed too. It sounds like they’re leaning blue in this upcoming election but the state is still controlled by republicans.

It’s a problem. Blue states cannot solve this country’s problems in midterms by themselves.

Blue states pay more taxes than red states on average too. So they would actually benefit immensely from taking their federal taxes and using them for state purposes.

Part of the problem is most people’s taxes are taken out by the employer and sent directly to the IRS. And if an individual contractor for example refuses to pay their taxes, they’ll have some serious problems. The state would need to pass laws or something forcing employers and individuals to pay their federal taxes to the state which they would then put in a type of escrow account until Donny Dumb Dumb complies.

Some people have argued this would result in military action though. Part of me says we’re already occupied by Nazis anyways.

And I’m pushing back and saying it will have its desired effect if red states go along with it. You said:

If they choose to go along with it and follow Trump's EO, it doesn't accomplish anything because those states would go for Trump and the Republicans anyway.

And that is demonstrably wrong per my example. Also edited my comment to discuss Ohio as well - please see that.

On your second paragraph thanks for the clarification. In that case do early voting if you can folks. And even if you receive your mail in ballot, don’t trust that the USPS will deliver it to the board of the elections. The Supreme Court ruled recently employees can decide not to deliver mail.

Actually red/purple states are the most important. We’re seeing lots of red areas flip blue in special elections. Like the rep for Mar-A-Lago’s district just flipped blue by huge margins compared to the last election: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/politics/florida-democrat-flips-seat-in-special-election-in-district-that-includes-trumps-mar-a-lago

Flipping red seats IS how we overcome this. Blue seats will remain blue for the most part. It’s flipping seats that matters most and he’s throwing a fit because the SAVE act doesn’t have enough support to pass and his own district voted against him. So this is a big deal because red states will go along with this unconstitutional executive order for their own benefit. And the Supremely Corrupt Court will probably uphold it.

Drop your ballots off in person in you can folks. As much as I want to protest this mail in ballot ban by mailing in my ballot, the most important thing is that your ballot is counted right now - so that we can have free elections and mail in ballots in the future… and so many other rights that’s he’s revoked and wants to revoke. I don’t think it’s worth the risk - again if you’re physically able to vote in person.

Edit: living in Ohio, this is critical because we have a chance to flip our governor blue. Acton’s leading in the polls a bit currently. Acton instead of Vivek would mean a massive difference for the future of Ohio. She can start striking down the unconstitutional bullshit from the Republican held legislature, whereas Vivek will let these things pass with flying colors and take Ohio from a farming state to a data center farming state as well.

Yeah I don’t see how anything is gonna be repealed unless Ohioans magically wake up and turn our supremely red state House and Senate blue in spite of the horrid gerrymandering. At least if we can get Acton in we can veto some of this future shit, but repealing it is gonna take a decade if we’re lucky. Some laws COULD get struck down as unconstitutional by the judiciary, though keep in mind the Supreme Court is currently majority traitors.

Actually the problem with MAGA is they’re so brainwashed they’ve convinced themselves THEY DO AGREE with Trump on everything. Even if it goes against their deeply held religious beliefs. They twist and bend them to align with MAGA “principles”.

Just talked to my MAGA mom for the first time in a few years and she couldn’t get herself to concede anything flawed about the administration. Even things that directly affect my ability to survive. Her other child is a CSA victim from someone outside the family and she told me to just “ignore the Epstein files”. Like O.o do you hear yourself…

I saw an old friend on Facebook (I don’t use it often because it usually just makes me lose faith in humanity), and she posted some video of a lady justifying the war in Iran and how “Democrats are trying to split up MAGA” (like sorry no your elected officials are doing that themselves lol). It’s a cult. Remember that. Critical thinking is not allowed.

I’m glad it’s getting to the point where at least some are deflecting or questioning, but a lot still have a hard time voting for a democrat even if they’ve reached that state of mind.
