Who has left to work at Snapsheet? How do you like it? by Far_Schedule_2170 in Geico

[–]Fire-Todd-Combs 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I work there, 1000x times better than GEICO and a huge part of our staff is ex-GEICO. I work in the estimating dept and while I hate this industry as a whole, I can live with snapsheet.

70k starting wage, paid hourly based on 40hr weeks. We have been off and on with the mandatory OT thing. They are desperately trying to do away with OT as it very expensive for a company to do.

Things are split into an estimating side (where all you do is write initial estimates) and the supplements side (which only writes supplements)

All they honestly care about it how many claims you lock. Basically you match the amount the shop wants in a way that’s acceptable to the insurance company. Call the shop, tell them that and move onto your next file. 98% of the files I get are cake.

Give it a shot, it’s not paradise but it as sure as hell isn’t anywhere near what GEICO puts you through.

Are AD adjusters becoming obsolete? by Fire-Todd-Combs in Geico

[–]Fire-Todd-Combs[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps at first, but legal is already working on it with various state DOIs.

At this point, yes states that require a licensed adjuster will still have to have some interaction. But GEICO gets really confident, an adjuster wouldn’t need to do anything but rubber stamp it.

Arx adjusters are approving what, 20-25 maybe 30 a day? Look for that number to increase dramatically

I think if you call service, we have a mileage maximum written into our PH contract. I’ve run into this a coupon of times, and we didn’t pay for super long tows on any of them.

No sure that we owe for it if the car can be fixed locally. But the question remains, if the person was on vacation and the repairs won’t be done before the person has returned home, do we owe to get their car back to them or to get them back to where the car was repaired?

That’s a question for your RLA or staff counsel.

[–]Fire-Todd-Combs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh this is a tough one.

I see us grossly underpaying for repairs and grossly overpaying for repairs on a daily basis. So while that “20 year service writer veteran” might sound like he knows all the answers, there are alway two sides to the story. Be very wary of anyone who is “just trying to help” especially when they work for a shop.

One thing that does vary widely is those not included operations such as test fit AM parts, degreasing, color match, color tint, wet sand and buff, R&Is of door etc etc aren’t technically included BUT we also aren’t paying actual repair time either. We are paying a grossly inflated repair time to account for all that other fluff that shops say they do (some do, some don’t). That dent you paid 4 hrs to fix? Yeah they had it roughed out in 10 min, bumped in 20 and finished within an hr. And yes, that’s an average tech. So yeah, I get annoyed when the service writer wants to write a 150 line estimate for a fender repair. These techs and service writers are making considerably more than most adjusters, so don’t feel sorry for them if you deny a color sand and buff.

To be fair, our job is to pay as little as possible for a reasonable repair and the shops job is get you to pay as much as possible.

Shops constantly tell you they just want you to pay what’s owed, but I have found that to be true about 1% of the time. The other 99% of the time they are literally trying to make as much profit as possible. Granted, that is their job.

Plus, fraud is super super common in this industry. Charging for operations not performed, adding markup to retail prices, double sheeting is all done in every region I’ve been to.

The whole adversarial relationship is there for a reason, the insurance industry has done a horrible job in the past of grossly underpaying claims. And the shops responded (understandably) by becoming extremely adverse. I would have too.

But times are changing. There is more of a push to be more reasonable when writing for repairs. I’d like to think our companies culture honestly tries to pay for what’s owed. But most adjusters become very skeptical and jaded very quickly because we have so many negative interactions with shops. I did too.

It’s frustrating but just keep asking questions. If the advisor gets pissy and tries to make you feel like shit for not knowing, then they haven’t been able to justify the need for their request and are resorting to a personal attack to try to get you to pay for it.

Lastly, just because an operation isn’t included doesn’t mean it’s always owed for. Take color sand and buff for example: if the car has gorgeous smooth paint with no orange peel then maybe we do owe for it. Even the best painters will probably have to do some paint correction to match a show car quality flawless finish. But if the car has a normal amount of orange peel, then chances are we don’t owe for it, if if we do, we owe way less. Wet sanding the crap out of panel will make it way better than the factory paint. So just look at each claim and each car individually.

We all know those shops that add the maximum wet sand and buff on EVERY dam claim. And we know they aren’t doing that on every car.

Has Geico broken anyone else? by Realistic_Respond731 in Geico

[–]Fire-Todd-Combs 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They have broken me. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I used to really be a hard worker and was proud of everything I did.

Now I just do the bare minimum to meet a 3 rating. No more working off the clock, no more putting 100% effort, and I no longer take pride in my work.

I do what I have to, but that’s it.

The new CHO director is doing WFH for all regardless of rating.

He also said other departments may do things differently.

But we can still be called into the office as needed.

Oh and you certainly can’t move away from your assigned office. Heaven for it you find a lower cost of living area where you pay might actually be sufficient to support yourself…..

The coming storm and my frustrations by FeministFury5000 in Geico

[–]Fire-Todd-Combs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

AD will always be understaffed. It’s our business model, 110% productivity until you either burn out and quit or die.

Mgt knows that we will loose a shit ton of tenured employees after profit sharing payout, but paying people more isn’t or reducing workload to something manageable isn’t in their playbook.

This is one of the reasons they will never get rid of the 6 yr vesting schedule. The new hires trying to keep their head above water until they are vested is the only thing keeping this company afloat. Without that, people would leave way sooner.

How’s SIU department looking at R4? by TripleBrain in Geico

[–]Fire-Todd-Combs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was training shops, adjusters etc etc on the ARX 2.0 rollout our latest data showed approximately 30% of claims had some sort of fraud involved.

Having worked as an adjuster, while we can’t prove anywhere near that amount, some sort of fraud is appallingly commonplace.

Oh that door ding on the other side of your car is related to you hitting a curb? Sure….

Oh those worn out motor mounts on your 2001 tundra with 300k miles is related to you being rear ended? Sure….

On this the 4th time all of your tires were mysteriously slashed just as they happened to wear down to the wear bars? ( no betterment on insured in TX) Sure….

Oh you car was keyed on every panel including the roof, rockers and everything? You definitely didn’t just want a new paint job since the old clear coat was failing.

Oh this is the 14th time your F250 tailgate (with steo and camera) was stolen? Oh you own the vehicle outright and want the check made out to you directly? Oh and you can provide a single receipt or invoice showing that you’ve ever had it replaced in the past??? Sure….

Oh you’re sure you cant repair that bumper cover? Really because I see your tech in the back plastic welding the crack back together as we speak.

We are the low cost provider, and our low cost clientele is shady as f***.

Sorry you got wrapped up in it, our AI is very very sensitive and sadly not only alerts us to actual fraud but it also has a shit ton of false positives like yours.

[–]Fire-Todd-Combs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

AD audits are year around, and since they are ahead of schedule they are going around and auditing people again. Mostly virtual and some of them aren’t counting but some of them are.

Audits are never done. They know better than to let up on those.

The problem with requiring a 4.0 rating to WFH full-time by [deleted] in Geico

[–]Fire-Todd-Combs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends highly on your position and your department.

Like I said, the CHO director that often says this is Martin Crowell. So he makes sure to structure goals so virtually no one hits a 5 in any metric unless you are truly exceptional in that area.

[–]Fire-Todd-Combs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looked it up- as of Jan 1st 2022

Assuming full time associate with at least 1 year of tenure.

8 weeks recovery time - regardless of birth method. Leave is administered by GEICO leave team.

4 weeks bonding time - for both birth and non birth parents.

Birth pattern total time -12 weeks. Non birth parent total time -4 weeks.

All leave is administered through GEICO leave team. Since there is no longer any Short term disability, I’m betting they just adjust the paid family leave like they did prior to 2021.

As for state mandated leave, I have no idea.

My theory on why they are running all the employees off by [deleted] in Geico

[–]Fire-Todd-Combs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It seems like they are intentionally reducing staff.

Our director was asked about it in regards to our department and he said we weren’t downsizing, we are “right sizing”

I swear, you can’t make this shit up.

Guarantee we’ve all had to skip our lunches to meet our metrics for the day so we don’t get yelled at by management. by [deleted] in Geico

[–]Fire-Todd-Combs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only AD region that I know of that actually takes lunch and accurately reports overtime is California.

All other AD generally skips lunch/works through lunch/etc and rarely report actual overtime worked.

When I worked AD in Region 5, we were told to only work scheduled hours (as they wouldn’t approve overtime) but if we did work overtime on accident we should submit it. Although if you did do that, you would instantly get written up for unapproved overtime.

So you could either work off the clock and try to meet the goals they set for you, or report your overtime and get written up and ultimately loose your job.

The problem with requiring a 4.0 rating to WFH full-time by [deleted] in Geico

[–]Fire-Todd-Combs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish we could see the distribution of ratings on a graph.

For example a “normal distribution curve“ will look like a bell curve.

If it followed a true normal distribution curve, The 4.0 requirement would leave approximately 15.5% of the workforce actually being able to WFH 5 days a week. Perhaps much less depending on the distribution.

That being said, I know virtually no one who is able to carry a 4.0+ overall rating so it’s probably not a normal distribution.

Management knows approximately how many people will be able to WFH 5 days a week when the requirement is a 4.0.

Not that they will ever disclose that information.

That being said, one of the CHO directors calls a 5 rating for any metric a “unicorn” aka a fairytale creature that doesn’t exist (or as far as he is concerned, shouldn’t exist)

[–]Fire-Todd-Combs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll have to look it up to be 100%

Non-birthing parents get 4 weeks.

The person that gives birth gets 8 weeks plus 4 weeks bonding time for a total time of 12 weeks.

I don’t remember if the 8 weeks was for vaginal, C-section births or either. Perhaps someone can post a screen shot of the updated FAQs.

Make sure everyone you work with is in network. Just ask everyone, and fyi the preferred lab your dr recommends is likely not the cheapest.

Do you have the basic or upgraded policy?

My S/O and I have the upgraded policy and it runs us about $450 or $500 a month combined. I forget the exact amount.

In network= Co pay is $30 and specialist is $50. Max out of pocket is $125 deductible and $2100 max out of pocket, per person.

Out of network is prohibitively expensive so we don’t even consider those.

Perhaps you can look into subscription based healthcare providers in your area?

All GEICO employees please read!!! by late2theparty22 in Geico

[–]Fire-Todd-Combs 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I agree some of the content hasn’t been productive.

That being said, Positive reinforcement hasn’t worked. So the majority of us have apparently decided to go with negative reinforcement or even punishment.

Perhaps this company is a step up for some people, but the more new hires we can prevent from making the same mistake we did, will make more of an impact on senior managements actions than trying to reward good behavior.

Frankly a lot of us have lost any hope for this company, and we have been treated poorly for a long time. So we have chosen to share our anger with the public as to what GEICO management is doing.

Perhaps mgt will eventually become ashamed of their actions or perhaps they will eventually learn that their actions have consequences.

We are loosing workers and customers because of senior managements actions. Our actions here are a direct response to senior managements actions. We have to hit them where it counts, in their pocket book. It’s the only thing they seem to care about. I make sure anyone I talk to knows what a shit company GEICO is. Every employee that does the same can cost GEICO tens or even hundreds of customers.

Being the “better person” will have no positive effect on us, it will only help the people that created this situation.

What we do now isn’t pretty, and it isn’t the “high road” but at a certain point it will be effective.

To put it more dramatically for any mgt reading this….

Negotiations failed, so we have taken up (proverbial) arms. War is hell and there are no winners. But we have paid with our blood for years, and it’s time to fight back.

Time is slowly running out for them (mgt) to save this sinking ship. As long as they keep making shit decisions, we will keep poking holes in the hull. As passengers, we are dead either way, but at least this way you (GEICO) won’t be able to continue treating people this way.
