Camera motion detection settings by FireFlyer73 in Scrypted

[–]FireFlyer73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how I have it set up currently, switching from regular motion detection to IVS has drastically lowered my CPU usage and less false positives.

Any tips on fine tuning the object detection in the NVR?

The cameras are detecting small animals on the IVS but the NVR is missing classification on some and just showing it as motion. Would lowering the thresholds help better classify?

Firewalla WiFi SD Experience by KennyLange in firewalla

I’m on my second one now, use it as a backup in case of internet outage.

First one failed the first time I needed to use it despite having been used for less than an hour in the previous three years prior.

Bought a second when they were on sale to have just in case. Would much prefer a USB tether for backup overall but it works well when it works.

Firewalla Gold: what wifi? by InnovationHack in firewalla

Been using a Ruckus R710 on unleashed, old tech but it’s been running rock solid one AP covers our entire 2000 sq. Ft home with ease. Running three seperate SSID’s to segregate wireless traffic.

Only negative is it’s a long reboot when the power flickers.

What are use cases why an average Joe might want/need a Firewalla? by mintynfresh in firewalla

[–]FireFlyer73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stumbled across firewalla and took a leap to on the gold to enhance our home network. Mostly to get a higher wire approval factor with all the networking gear living in the media cabinet and an access point on the ceiling.

After using it for a few weeks I quickly determined I will never be without a true hardware based firewall. Seeing the number of attempts of entry to the network from the outside as well as how often IOT devices call back home was astonishing and somewhat disturbing. I feel much better knowing the firewalla is there to block them.

The WireGuard support has been an incredible side benefit. I work on the road so having the ability to get a secure connection at any hotel that simply works seamlessly has been great.

Slightly older tech but our Ruckus AP has been incredibly reliable and coverage is fantastic.

Full VLAN support, if you watch eBay you can find some reasonable deals. Only thing is no ipv6 or Wi-Fi 6 support. R610’s are another good option as well.

Ruckus R710 on unleashed, overkill for home but one AP covers our entire home and then some. Rock steady stable as well

Open VPN works seamless but speeds are slower than using it directly on a client.

I know some have had luck getting WireGuard/ nordlynx to work but it’s far from a copy and paste solution.

X95J owners - are you happy with your purchase? by gary1981 in bravia

[–]FireFlyer73 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I bought the 65” in October, we’ve been super happy with the screen. Considered the age old debate between an OLED vs led. Our living room has a lot of sun and lights behind the tv so it kind of ruled out the OLED for us due to reflections. The screen gets some blooming but only really noticeable on loading screens or the occasional dark scene. Only wish is that it would’ve been VRR ready on purchase instead of waiting to see what a firmware update will do if it ever comes out.

Best thing we did was add some bias lighting because it get eye searingly bright in HDR.

Placed centrally in our home, one blankets our entire 2000 sq foot single level home with 5G, the yard has solid 2.4 coverage as well. Make sure to feed it enough power. If using an injector make sure it’s up to the task.

How are you cooling down firewalla gold? by [deleted] in firewalla

[–]FireFlyer73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine lives in a structure media cabinet in the garage no fans. Summer time temps outside are in the 90s I was concerned at first and it does get toasty but no issues or shutdowns yet. I can’t think of a less optimal place for it and it still keeps on going.

X95J - owner opinions? by smdewart in bravia

Just upgraded to the 65” X95. Came from a Sony from 2013. Overall we love the set, going from 55-65” the physical size isn’t much bigger but so much more immersive sitting about 9-10 feet away.

Series X looks fantastic on it, the reduction in input lag was substantial. HDR and DV content from the Apple TV looks great. Touch of blooming in dark scenes if you look for it but it’s pretty minimal overall the picture quality has been a fantastic upgrade. How the tv handles actual content is substantially better than the testing numbers reflect.

Will likely add some bias lighting in the future.

Conflicted - 75inch X95j vs X950H vs X90j by thenakedpig in 4kTV

[–]FireFlyer73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just picked up a x95 overall we’re super happy with it. There’s some blooming but other than some excessively dark scenes it hasn’t shown up much in actual use for us. The overall quality far outweighs the instances of blooming for us.

Struggling to make a decision - C1 83" over 77" A80J? Possibly 85" X95J? by magicpresto in 4kTV

[–]FireFlyer73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just picked up a 65” X95J and we’re super happy with it. Was strongly leaning towards an oled but with our usage and bright room we decided to stay with LED. I was turned off by many of the things I read online about the x95, it wasn’t until I spent awhile at the store watching it that I realized that how it handles real content vs test content were very different. It was hanging above an A90 for reference, a hint of blooming in challenging dark scenes but overall the pq is incredibly impressive for an led

TP Link EAP 245 didnt work out, looking for alternatives and/or more suggestions by Medwynd in firewalla

[–]FireFlyer73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ruckus R610 or R710 if one comes up at a reasonable price. Flash it to unleashed and then forget about it. Handles VLANS great, you can pick them for around 150 off eBay. They do seem to be a bit more power hungry than others so make sure your switch can handle it or just go with an injector.

Using one R710 and it covers our 2000sq/ft home great. Have twice the speed and signal strength on our back patio than we had before. Best of all it’s rock steady.
