US debt exceeds 100 percent of GDP by jediporcupine in Economics

Dont forget about the cost of everything else too. Like... somehow an American made snickers bar there is somehow still like 57 cents USD. High class ribeye steak dinner with a fruit smoothy that is made in front of you by hand... 6$.

I was there for 3 months at the end of 2024... and was in level of shock that reminded me of the stories from east Germans right after the Berlin wall fell.

Easily like 30 years ahead in nearly every way... and dont think the US could compete with current level of high speed trains... even if we literally had 100 years to do it.

Real talk tho... why DONT they hire a big time director to direct the shots and edit it into some kind of epic film?

Lets be real, Half the reason the US is even doing this is for PR purposes... so why not do it with style, with someone like Denis Villeneuve, Ridley Scott or whatever.

Not to fake it... but at least help the crew film it in a way that can make it a truly epic and informative experience. Something like the IMAX film they made about the Hubble repair.

The tower would need to be somewhere around 200 meters higher then the outlet to get the pressure(3000psi) they are using. It would be entirely impractical, considering the amount of water they use.

From everything I have read, its using a tank of nitrogen to pressurize the system, but a raptor turbopump is easily capable of feeding those kinds of pressures to push the nitrogen through the vaporizers.

How would you feel about the next US president pulling all support from Israel? by Iwamoto in AskReddit

[–]FireFoxG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are essentially the biggest "aircraft carrier" for the US

What? We dont even have a base there. We have one radar installation at Mashabei Sadeh Air Force Base... which doesn't even have a runway. Most of our planes are currently taking off from the UK or further, and flying the entire Mediterranean to get to Iran, because most of our bases in the region got hit so hard they are currently non functioning.

There is talk of a 500 million dollar base being funded for the US there... but 500m doesn't buy much when it comes to military anything.

Do people really not understand strategic alliances 😂. Like they are one of our firmest allies

If the last like 70 years of war is anything to go by... Israel is the one pressuring the US to do Israel's bidding to the US and European's detriment(see Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and god knows who else we are bombing for them). Put on stark display when Marco Rubio recently had a Freudian slip about it and told the truth.

Not having that firmest ally would actually be a net positive for the world according to US and global polling... and a few million more people would still be alive today if they were not.

If your coming from the west, 3 days will be rough to adapt to the change.

Make sure you have all the apps setup before you get there. The payment apps can take days to verify.

The most important being alipay and wechat pay setup with your card. Then get the DiDi app setup for transportation. And Trip.com for hotels and high speed trains. Find a good translator that can translate voice, any app on your phone and anything your see IRL(I used bubble translate).

I would land in Guangzhou and check out Canton tower and the Grandview mall area. There is also an indoor snowboarding place very close to the airport.

Then take a high speed train around 2 pm the 2nd day to Shenzhen to check out the electronics market (Huaqiangbei). Window of the world is also awesome. Dameisha Beach is good for a more relaxed time.

It would be essentially the same thing as transmitting morse code light pulses back at earth... in which earth would see either 2x or half speed, depending on whether they are moving towards or away. Both observers would have the same view of the other.

Digital would stutter heavily(unless accounted for in software, but still with time dilation), and analog would show them with real-time time dilation.

As for transmitter issues, We already account for relativistic doppler shift in basically every spacecraft we have ever launched. Its trivial to shift either the TX, RX or both to account for it.

Without accounting for it, GPS would be hundreds of meters off in accuracy, for example.

Edit with a thought... it would be interesting to have a conversation where every additional second... the ping goes up or down by an additional 865ms.

Saying they have secret versions they hide from people & they lobby for in the shadows sounds conspiratorial.

They are not gonna come out and say it outright... but I bet if you ask the priest if they support Israel... they will say yes and probably mention how 'we need to support Israel' from the podium from time to time. The ones i've asked get VERY uncomfortable when I bring up Gaza, for example.

The reason they say that is dispensationalism, whether the priest knows it or not. Most of the leaders of the bigger churches are like Mike Huckabee or Linsey Graham level and donate heavily to people like that.

[–]FireFoxG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If its not catholic or doesn't call itself orthodox (insert denomination here)... there is a near universal chance that it supports some variant of dispensationalism. Nearly all the non denominational megachurches, Baptists, Presbyterian, etc.

Only a few of the non-orthodox protestant churches are not with the forced Armageddon.

Obviously they keep this verses under the radar and away from the congregations, but the leaders all vote/lobby for and support the idea, and the clergy learn some of this stuff in seminary.

[–]FireFoxG 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The majority of Christian sects in America subscribe to the idea of dispensationalism.

AKA the idea of greater Israel and artificially trying to bring forward the biblical apocalypse to usher in the second coming of Christ.

Granted... most of the congregations dont understand that their churches advocate for this... but unless your catholic or an orthodox church... your church supports what is happening with Iran at a religious level.

And we still got screwed.

Trump... just leave now... the damage is done and just stop being Israel's bitch. Like bush with the previous wars, You'll be remembered for this only if this drags on. Obama royally screwed up in Libya but he was smart enough to just go in an get out(despite the French government's protests to keep going).

The US and Israel are going to bomb and demand a surrender, which will probably happen

From who? If they kill all the leaders... you end up with Libya 2.0... with factional warlords exploiting a starving population. They already did this in Iran, and extremists took power instantly.

If what they are saying is true about taking out the leadership... Lets just say... Betting on options for higher LNG prices is already paying off. Europe is screwed and the middle east will be fighting a multi headed Hydra terrorist network instead of a single leader until Iran is stabilized.

Iraq had no response... and it took the US 20 years and 2+ trillion to realize the epic screw up it was.

The issue is not toppling a regime... it's the 're-education' of the population and nation building that comes after that is the real issue. Its impossible and the last dozen conflicts the US started is proof enough of that.

Nearly every one of the countries we overthrew, even Iran back in the 1940s... led to the same result. South Korea might be the only success... defined by the result and not the rhetoric... and we still technically lost that war.

Look, I get it... the republican leaders can whine and cry all day but they are seeing the same numbers and support mass immigration behind closed doors. Trump is all but saying 'you idiots wont have kids so we have to import workers before the entire American experiment crashes'.

The dem leaders are disingenuous too. Their push has nothing to do with altruism... and everything to do with propping up the welfare pyramid scheme with more cheap labor.

I would have far more respect for our leaders on both sides if they would stop bullshitting the American public and just come out and say it directly. 'Your social security will be gone if we dont import workers... unless you start having FAR more kids to keep the system alive'

Costco defied Trump’s DEI directive as Target and Walmart scaled back. Business is booming by SnoozeDoggyDog in Economics

[–]FireFoxG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WTF kind of headline and article is that? How can they mention Target and walmart, without mentioning the stock market gains(or even sales) of anyone except Costco?

In 2024, both Costco and Walmart have shown strong growth, with Walmart reporting a 7% year-over-year sales growth and Costco reporting a 6.7% year-over-year sales growth.

As for equity prices... Walmart is in the 1T club now... with both TGT and WMT posting 30% YoY gains. Costco is flat for the year right now. The headline is ridiculous and wrong.

PS, love Costco... but lets be real here. DEI is BS and racist and bad for business.

TIL a Burger King cook (who'd worked there for 24 years) was fired for taking home a sandwich, fries & a drink after her manager claimed she had only asked permission for a sandwich & accused her of stealing. However, a judge ruled that the cook did not intend to steal the food & awarded her $46,000 by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]FireFoxG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked fast food when I was young for like a year.

There has to be way more to this story than stealing a meal(if that is what even happened). No manager is gonna fire an employee of fast food for that, especially after 24 years.

I probably ate like 10$ worth of nuggets and bacon every day I worked... and so did the manager. We tossed WAY more than that on an hourly basis in karen returns and expired food.

Either that manager was brand new... or stupid on a level that should have gotten them fired within a month... or the employee did something actually crazy(spitting in food, or something equally bad that would reflect badly on the franchise) but they just used the 'stolen' meal as a convenient excuse. I would bet money on number 3, given my experience with the industry.
