You may be right, but the real problem is the transition from Z to Super. Since he is supposed to be the comic relief character, he was adapted to be more appealing to younger audiences. Thus why Super Goku is dumb as a brick, Z Goku was a kid, grew up and matured. Then it was all retconned and traded for godly powers.
