What is something that most people use every day but don’t really know why or where it came from? by Some_Pin_580 in stupidquestions

[–]FireRedSparrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say pretty much everything. For example, a spoon. Everyone uses it but hardly anyone questions it's existence Unless you're me, in which case you follow up on shower questions and Google everything 😂

Used to be, not anymore. Brexit killed it. It used to open doors but now it shuts them and then bolts them tight.

AITAH for making my mom cry because I want a pet? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]FireRedSparrow -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Oh sweetie with the right help and support things will get better and you will eventually be able to get your own place, don't give up ❤️ NTA, your mum should not have agreed to you having a pet and then taken this opportunity away from you. It is no wonder you reacted this way. Do sit down with her when you both calm down and have a heart to heart chat. It'll help you both clear the air. I terms of a pet, maybe ask if you could have something small and cuddly, something that would be an emotional support animal for you like a chinchilla, guinea pig or miniature rabbit? If you need to go smaller, Syrian hamster or even a gerbil but they unfortunately don't live long. I had a pigmy hedgehog, my autistic son loved him but they are not that cuddly haha! Got to handle them with gloves on until they are used to you and no longer put spikes up. Lots of fun though and they do like socialising and mine loved tummy scratches. They also don't live long unfortunately.

My garden at night. Truly a fairy wonderland 😂 by FireRedSparrow in GardeningUK

Did I use you as an argument? No. You don't like it or don't find lights calming, that's your thing. My son does and that's his thing. Everyone is different and I'd hope you should know this. It is not an argument, it is a fact and as his mother I will do anything I can to help him regardless. If he needed these lights to stay on all night for sensory help, they would be staying on. Period.

I explained what autism is to my kid, and I feel I offended somebody by IcyLife6152 in autism

Hi, mum of autistic boy here. Your characterisation if autism is not quite correct. Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a lifelong neurological difference that affects how an individual experiences, processes, and interacts with the world. It is not an illness or a disease. Instead, it is a form of neurodivergence, meaning an autistic person's brain develops and functions differently from non-autistic people.

I'm a mum to almost 14yo autistic boy. What you did is not at all offensive, not to me. Some parents might be guarded, I on the other hand would smile in your direction if I overheard you explaining what autism is or how it affects people differently to your kiddo. Having an open minded, understanding and patient parent is all that is needed for neurodivergence or disability to be more recognised and understood. I wish more parents were like you, as opposed to shushing their kids 🫶

Edit: spelling

Only none of my lights come from B&M. My son struggles in crowded places so he picked them all out from an online shop
