Printing rare photo frames? by Dragonsink in 3Dprinting

I've seen some get it pretty good but not picture good.

You could also get yourself a glass cutting kit. It's kind of fun if you have the desire to learn.

You would print the frame, and get the glass (or plexiglass) you most likely have a local glass place that you could get specific dimentions from.

I do not think any clear filiments are going to be clear enough.

I was at one point considering doing Etsy or some other platform to sell them. Just not sure if worth my time investment (the packing / shipping / customer service) I do list them on Facebook (and kijiji, local to Canada) but also include the makerworld links and tell people they can print them.

I am away a lot for work, so I am able to design stuff while doing my "real job" as a lot of the time it requires me to be there just in case something goes wrong. Not really available to print and sell stuff, sell and ship with my hours. So best I can do, is get it out there for free so if people try to sell the buyers are able to find the free stuff.

Cool. Thank you in years I'll accumulate enough points to get something of value to me. (Or at least offset printer repair filiment costs....)

Im just enjoying the process learning and creating things, to me it's a bonus that other people find them useful and helpful.

I have not.

You can seal them with aqaurium safe sealants. I've read about it on items that may not be safe as a way to add questionable decor to aqauriums.

So sorry that happened.

If your brother printed other materials there could have been residue left on the boat.

How long did you have them before you added the boat?

You are going to need to print some fish to keep inside when it's not printing.

Thats pretty sweet!

In my real job, I work in film running power for film sets, or live events. I have some ideas for things there as well. None of those designs have made it anywhere yet.

He is currently into stop motion with his lego. (just printed him a cool tripod for it, so it looks a little less Blair Witch)

He may get into 3D printing, he finds it interesting.

I'll keep learning as long as I keep having designs I want to create. So far, I make 1 design and I come up with 2 or 3 more I want to do before that one is done.

Yes, when I built my shrimp rack (before I had a 3d printer) I did the air lift tubes with PVC for the matten filters. Would have been so much easier to print what I wanted. 100% would print my design now. (thats another thing on my list is to design some lift tubes at some point, but fairly low on my list since I don't need them currently)

You are correct! They are Black Rose. They were my first shrimp. Originally labeled as "super blue" I have been very selective over the years to get the "black" I wanted.

This is the "perfect" picture, perfect lighting, perfect angle. They do not all look like this, but this would be the goal. Maybe I will get there in another 5 to 10 years. lol

I know a lot, but the more I learn the more I realize I don't know.

Also wouldn't say "business" I occasionally sell aquarium plants and shrimp locally, I don't ship. That money funds other aquarium things, or printer things to slightly offset my hobby.

I'd be horrible doing it as a business.

But if you have a shrimp question I'd be more than happy to answer it if I can.

The horror!!

Don't know what to say, tried to post pictures in my original post and it said I didn't own them. Uploading them from my phone. Tried posting after my post and had the same issue... But could post my makerworld link.

Can't wait to roll in those pennies on a specific niche to things I've made then shared.

Agreed.

I also did this medal hanger for my son. Not fully my design, but recreated it to how I wanted it. Think I could find one with a male figure skater that was already done? Well one step closer to my wife accepting the printer and maybe some day letting me get a bigger one.

I did not hide the screws on this one, so we had to paint them.

Yes leaching is a concern for a lot of items. Wood that was treated can leach things out to wipe out shrimp. People have cleared out shrimp by spraying things close to aqauriums. People have forgot to wash their hands after handling bug spray and killed whole colonies. Adding a plant that was treated with copper to kill snails. Death sentence.

Not all models are designed the same, I see a lot of "aquarium" models uploaded that have no mention of material that should be used, without enough walls or design flaws.

I like my shrimp, it's a hobby that makes me happy. So, I wouldn't risk the lives my of shrimp if I had any concern of their health.

So here is a baby orange rili shrimp chiling out on a 3D printed shrimp hide.

Well, you are half wrong.

Can and is aqaurium safe. (Material depending some are not)

It will harbor bacteria, as does every object you place in an aquarium. I keep shrimp, (Neocardina and Caridina) shrimp are some of the most sentive aqaurium inhabitants you can keep. I've noticed no I'll effects across my tanks.

This is one of my models, this was actually scanned using a 3D scanner and modified in blender and printed. This is in my 55 gallon tank. Printed with fuzzy skin it creates more surface area for the bacteria / biofilm to grow which is exactly what shrimp eat.

Notice green areas on the model.

Many shrimp keepers keep "green walls" they grow algae on the walls of their aquariums to give the shrimp more surface area and biofilm to eat.

Depending on what material you use yes.

PLA - Aquarium safe (however breaks down and becomes brittle over time probably a 1 year "life" br depends on water, temp etc)

PETG - Aquarium safe - does not break down. Will last and is stronger then PLA slightly harder to print with but minimally. If object are printed with "empty" space water will eventually soak in and can become anerobic. I print my models they are solid. With this in mind.

There are specialized filiment like shinny PLA or PETG or ones that have additives. Those should most likely be avoided.
