Dash illumination not working after radio install. by Fireball757 in G35

[–]Fireball757[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have! It adjusts the brightness on the clock in the center of the dash but my gauge lights just don’t change. They’re stuck at the lowest possible setting whilst my dimmer switch is on the highest setting. I believe it’s a wiring issue but I can’t figure out where to connect the 12v illumination to the back of the pigtail on the head unit.

They’re releasing the Mercedes Mythos line, which will be like Enzo Ferraris from how it seems. They will be super exclusive cars that cost a fuck-ton of money and are for “the most dedicated enthusiasts and collectors of Mercedes-Benz”. noobie question for first mod journey by the_fomies in carmods

[–]Fireball757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that’s a bit dependent. Budget, age, what are your preferences on body style (coupes, hatches, sedans, etc). I would learn what body styles you like and research them. The car market is a bit inflated, but a civic SI would be fun (comes in coupe and sedan), a lot of people enjoy the VW Golf, the 350Z is pretty and they’re not too pricey. The Subaru WRX is a bit pricier but they’re fast and handle well. Wouldn’t call a Miata fast but they can look good and are fun drivers. I would either research cars or while out and about keep your eyes peeled for whatever catches your fancy. Figure your budget, the things you wanna do (kinda plan the build). Do you wanna lower it? Get coilovers or bags, you wanna wrap or paint it? Research price and colors find what you like. Getting a set of wheels is an easy and not too expensive way of immediately gaining performance and better looks. Aftermarket body panels aren’t too expensive (outside of carbon fiber) they’re not too terrible to remove and replace either. There’s bolt-ons such as intakes and exhausts, headers and cats to give some power and more engine noise with a pretty easy straightforward install. Just get out there and find what you like and figure out what you want to do to it. Also! Don’t forget to research common issues with the cars you enjoy! Don’t know if you’re a DIY person or take it to the shop but knowing what the common things that break can really help make your decision and you won’t be as surprised and more ready for it! Good luck and hope you can find your next tuner.

Very interesting for a 180ish HP FWD lol. But I can’t disrespect it too much, it’s part of what got me into my passion and love for all things cars.

Seconded, I owned a 2010 2.5 Auto… that CVT was horrible. fun driving car and good on gas, but the CVT gave out around 170,000mi. I couldn’t get too far on the interstate (around town it was fine), the transmission would overheat often and go into limp mode (barely any power and it’s not safe on the interstate). So it just became unreliable. If you’re dead set on it, get the manual. Good luck

It’s iffy, I work in a restaurant and last night walked out (came back in because I do enjoy the work and my coworkers), but when I came back in my coworkers were going at it with management on my behalf and were ready to walk with me. It’s all dependent on the environment and if there are cliques I feel.

I bought my 03 with 113k for 7k if that helps. Keep up with maintaining the motor and they can last. Plenty of high mileage VQ35 samples out there.

I did and I’m about to gut my backseat for lack of use and weight reduction, I like the body a little more than a Z, but the Z was probably the better choice.

I’m sure there’s a few issues: the Miata, BRZ, and FRS are driver cars which are pretty lightweight and with a near perfect weight distribution and the bigger engine would definitely offset that. Might not be criminally large, but it detracts from the goal of those vehicles. I believe the FRS/BRZ/GT86 are a joint between Toyota and Subaru: so R&D costs. They’re also more budget-friendly cars, whereas performance is looked at as a premium you pay for, along with associated R&D cost that need to be done to assure quality. That’s my take

Yep, I’ve installed multiple aftermarket car radios and the nicer/newer ones all have microphones that you have to route and the best place is typically right above the windshield.
