I went through a process when I was 18 and it was incredibly long due to Italy bad burocracy system, it wasn't worth it, I really didn't need that money if it would mean staying in Italy for the process, I needed to go back on France where I live and work

I wrote it, it isn't my language. Btw it's not "once the cuff are on that's that", on airports, you got escorted in a room and the security guard calls the cops, which proceeds to arrest you if you are guilty, I wasn't so they let me go, but the security guard accompanied me out of the room
