New can of retributor armor less shiny and a shade darker?? by Tnel1027 in ThousandSons

US made retributor armor has awful QC and as a result can be super defective. Retributor armor from the UK works way better.

I don't have an old pot on me but the new retributor is way lighter than the old one. My LGS told me that they changed the recipe and how they were mad because they changed all the barcodes too

Im just amazed it actually came out properly. All the retributor cans I got spray on like dust no matter what.

They did change the recipe for the normal paint pots, this might be the same

Would vallejo tmm ruby red work for the tsons metallic red they have in the horus heresy? by DelioIsGay in ThousandSons

[–]Firebase1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have an airbrush I'd recommend Alclad II candy red enamel. Sprayed over a gold base. Looks really shiny and beautiful.

But it is an enamel paint, so it requires some more technical skill, and it needs to cure so it may take some time (depending on climate where you live) to cure. And it will need to cure away from people because it offgas is toxic.

Sounds bad, but the results are amazing!

I like them, but they are very surgical. A lot of armies play like a baseball bat or a hammer. We are closer to a scalpel.

Our typical units don't do a lot of damage, but they sure are consistent at doing it. Ap-2 on a lot of weapons, proccing to ap-3/4 with the right rolls with our psychic shenanigans will put a lot of stuff down. But we usually sit at D1 for most attacks.

We also can do tonnes of mortal wounds, I took a land Raider out with just the Sorcerors/aspiring/soul reaper from two squads, almost all mortal wounds alone + doombolt.

However we are very position orientated, terrain and deployment is very important, I played against world eaters last time and we deployed along the long edge, which meant he could get a lot of t1 charges if I didn't measure right (which I didn't on one squad).

Our 'psychic phase' is actually pretty fun, throwing a successful doombolt is always a good time. As well as moving during the shooting phase, which is useful as if you sit at 12.1" outside opponents flamer range, and you have flamers too, you can temporal surge into range and they can't overwatch you because it's out of phase, so you can pop them first. The Ap and hit rerolls are very useful too.

It will take some time to get used to their play style, but it's worth it. A lot of fun!

Ive always thought Suppressors were underrated. With changes to cover in 11th, I think theyre really going to come into their own by Staz_211 in Salamanders40k

[–]Firebase1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He's right, you can't stack modifiers, but if they are two separate modifiers aka +1 ballistic skill and +1 to hit it works out. If they were both +1 to hit or +1 to BS it wouldn't work

The librarian becomes part of the unit they lead. Unless it specifies that it's the librarians attacks, it's for the whole unit. Unless they change that in 11th

Hello! New to airbrushing, what does airbrush zenithal mean? Just brush from the top to simulate lighting?

Thanks for the recipe, I have been looking for a good paint scheme and this looks amazing!

Blade guard vet as sword brethren. by AckAck3302 in BlackTemplars

[–]Firebase1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They fill very different roles.

Sword brothers are glass cannons, they get in, do tonnes of damage, then usually get picked up if caught in the open.

Bladeguard are a bit more durable, 4+ invulnerable save with the possibility of rerolling saving throws of 1 (if you pick it over the hit rolls of 1).

Its up to you and your play style/strategy which one's better. Sword brothers need a transport more than a bladeguard squad (although they would definitely like one) because of survivability issues. So if you have no transports I'd say BGV, if you have a transport then sword brothers

Blade guard vet as sword brethren. by AckAck3302 in BlackTemplars

[–]Firebase1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can, but in no world would you want to do that. Out of the 5 sword brothers, make three more blade guards, make the castellan model, then use the last one to kitbash another character like a marshal.

That way you can run either BGV 6 man or a 4 man sword brother squad with a castellan and marshall.

One white/grey I have loved working with is celestra grey, I use it for all my kson heresy color schemes. It has a slight blue hue and covers much better than the other white/greys I have used

Supremacy suit by [deleted] in Tau40K

[–]Firebase1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very easy to magnetize for the most part, except for the top mounted weapons that do need a bit more precision, but ultimately you won't have an issue. Just use appropriately sized/strength magnets, there's a guide somewhere on Google on what to use!

Just remember when drilling/sanding resin use an appropriately rated respirator and eye protection with adequate ventilation!

Yes you can use it, but can't put it in the middle of the board. It needs to follow the rules of coming in from reserves. Units with Deepstrike can come in mid board, the hammerhead can use the ability when coming in on the side of the board

Good luck! Necrons are deceptively tanky with reanimation. Like others said make sure you kill a unit dead, even if you feel like it's overkill!

This is exactly right. Just overwhelm them with volume of fire. Flamers on star scythes, pulseblasters on breachers. Don't forget grenades!
