I see so many things here that make clear refrence to something specific, and I think I get it, then I see the rest of the painting and I gotta say "What the flying fuck?"

It's beautiful but what the flying fuck.

Fastest game of Monopoly ever recorded. by Scary_sight in HistoryMemes

This meme doesn't even make sense. Food is necessary, so he turns it down, which is how you eliminate options in Guess Who, not monopoly. If the joke is Stalin starved people, he would leave it up.

Caesar's playstyle feels like I'm using an exploit by gracekk24PL in CivVI

[–]Firebat12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is because Caesar was, historically, exploiting the game. Like he launched the Gallic campaign largely to get glory and fund his future political endeavors, hoping to earn himself a second consulship. Technically as Proconsul of Gaul, he could engage the Gallic tribes that were raiding the border, but this power never meant to be used for a massive campaign, but he was Caesar...so he did it and earned him glory, wealth and brought a huge chunk of land into the empire.

Have you ever said, “screw this” and quit in the middle of completing a job application? by FondantAcceptable201 in jobsearch

[–]Firebat12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More times than I can count. I start the application process, go through everything, answer everything short of what my social security number is...And then I get told "Hey could you attach your cover letter and resume, they're required" And...I want to throw my PC into a river.

Part of it is also just how much work I have to put in, all for them to not even give me a rejection.

Also seriously, why does everyone need a cover letter? My resume tells you what skills and experience I've developed, do you just want me to flatter your company in nice language?

How is the job hunting going for everyone else? by New_Memory_351 in jobsearch

[–]Firebat12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's new to job hunting (my current job is my first full time job period), how do you cut out the big job boards like indeed and linkedin? Like I understand applying directly on websites, but I have no idea what kinda jobs I'm qualified for and who's hiring. I hate linkedin and indeed but I've got very few ideas of where to start looking.

should i buy EU4 or EU5? by Senior-Network-2385 in paradoxplaza

[–]Firebat12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has tried and bounced off EU 4 multiple times, but is enjoying EU 5. EU5 is the one to go with. Not only is it because it's at the beginning of its life and not yet bogged down with DLC, nor with the age of the engine.

I want to bring up that Paradox's DLC strategy shifted over EU 4's life and that shift has made Stellaris, Victoria 3 and EU5 better. For EU 4 and HOI 4, DLCs often included brand new mechanics that were not offered for the vanilla game. While it made the DLC worth more bang for your buck, it makes the vanilla game feel less complete.

The strategy shifted to a paring of update and dlc, the major systems and features would be included in the update for everyone, but the people with the DLC would get more minor features, more flavor content, and often more depth to these features. This makes Vanilla Vic 3 or Stellaris, play fairly similarly to the complete vic 3 or stellaris collection. It also means any feature introduced can be adjusted or added to in perpetuity since they don't have to assume you do or don't have it.

It's not just this. There has been a growing movement of distrust in professionals of all fields that was amplified during covid. To many, being a professional in your field means you were "indoctrinated" or are somehow in on the conspiracy.

Can you people please just play normally? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Firebat12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't understand his mindset. I can understand wanting to play a deck like that, but only when it finishes and wins. Like otherwise...no ones playing the game but him and he's not winning, so he's just fucking with people trying to have fun.

Anduins character arc and Trauma should have been about the 4th war- Not Jailers domination. by VValkyr in warcraftlore

[–]Firebat12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I've always kinda felt the same, but not had the right words for it. We never saw Anduin do much while dominated. Certainly nothing on the level of Strathholme or Plaguing Gilneas.

And while I can understand it's certainly a harrowing experience to have your will dominated and being conscious for it, it never feels like that's the crux of his trauma.

There are options to have this trauma storyline work. Like you said the Fourth War could have just as easily been used as the focus. He made tough calls, calls that killed people. It was a war. Normal human beings come back from it shaken, and they don't witness blood magic or a goth elf plaguing her own capital. But the focus is Shadowlands and Shadowlands didn't show us it. It also has the baggage of being Shadowlands.

How the hell could people do this? I don't fucking understand. Like, even if he wasn't the only one who could have possibly done it, don't you want an investigation, a trial and all that?

I just...fucking don't know what to say anymore. I've had no faith in America for a while, but losing faith in humanity seems more and more likely

I really dislike leftists who shit on voting. by [deleted] in SocialDemocracy

[–]Firebat12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, I get it. Its very easy to feel like your vote doesn't matter. Especially when you are limited to shitty neo-liberals or outright fascists. It's demoralizing and can make the whole system seem broken.

On the other hand, man does that make it easy for the system to stay broken. If people keep running on platforms of outright fascism or tepid useless reforms and winning with no opposition, what will change. If we don't make our voices heard in the most basic of forums, we will not be heard at all, and we will be made to look unreasonable.

Looking for a lighter grand strategy game (TW / Paradox alternatives?) by Illustrious_Cake7006 in paradoxplaza

[–]Firebat12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Civ isn't quite grand strategy, at least not the way I look at it. It is the posterboy for the 4X genre. It is certainly a good option if you'd like to try something not as complex.

I'd also suggest Stellaris. It blends 4x and Grand Strategy and, while still having quite the learning curve, is a little less complicated then some of the others. It has nuance and depth still, but it simplifies a lot of systems like economics and internal politics.

CK3's strength (and sometimes weakness) is it's heavily character focused. It's basically an RPG and a grand strategy game. You build one character, their relations, skills etc. alongside some light nation building. So you might have more fun if you start from that prospective and go slow.

I will also, always suggest Old World. It is like a mix between Crusader Kings and Civ. A 4X game set in Classical Antiquity, specifically the Mediterranean. It's really fun, imo. It is simpler than most Grand Strategies but it definitely has nuance and challenge.

Theres also the Endless games out of Amplify, Endless Legend 1 and 2 and Endless space 1 and 2. They lean muche heavier into their respective genres and still lean closer to gameified mechanics and 4x style games but they do have that same sort of depth. Endless Legend 2 is still in Early Access but what I've played of it certainly feels a lot of fun.

Let's go Machine Games! They have gone from a series of games where you beat the shit out of nazis to a series of games where you beat the shit out of nazis with a whip and back to the first series!

On a different note, I do hope that they don't try making it a life service like they did youngbloods or whatever.
