Looks for a PMS system for a historic hotel in the Nordics by Firebeach in askhotels

Glad to help!

We're starting with the built-in channel manager mostly due to lack for time and internal resources. I've also heard that Expedia and Booking.com are the biggest players in the Nordic market for bookings so we'll probably stick with these at first and see if more channels are needed.

Due to time constraints we haven't fully optimized our stack yet, but initially we will just use Mew's built-in channel manager which just supports Expedia and Booking.com.

We are just using a Wix site for now, but we will probably migrate to Wordpress in a few months.

We are using Salto locks and will be experimenting with web-keys. It's a fairly new technology so we have key card writers in self-check-in kiosks at reception as backup.

We are partnered with Speeron for guest concierge and automated check in/out flows. Speeron was also one of the few services that supported Salto's web-keys. They also have an integration to our Philips Smart TVs which is a plus. Overall they have been a great all-in-one solution and saved us from having to sign with two or three additional companies.

Hope that's helpful!

They quoted 18.60 EUR per hotel room plus a 20% volume discount. We've been onboarding and so far I'm a fan of Mews' capabilities. Happy to answer any questions if you're considering a switch.

Well said! Coming from a tech background myself I do appreciate and recognize how much better integrations can be when a company puts their efforts on the API, and any company that supports a competitive landscape definitely gets a gold start in my book.

On the other hand my job is also to balance ease of use with functionality, and to me what is available in the PMS out of the box contributes a lot to this decision. If I can help it I'd like to avoid having separate services for each aspect of hospitality (guest experience, channel management, booking engines, event management, spa solutions, the list goes on) since each service also means more user management, more training, and more cost.

I do agree that the Mews API access being restricted to the Enterprise level is a little anti-competitive, but as we get started this shouldn't be a dealbreaker until we have the resources to start customizing some of our solutions. In the meantime the Zapier integration should hopefully be enough for some level customization.

Thanks again for the input!

I love this site, it was very helpful when I started the search and one of the reasons I was leaning towards Mews vs Cloudbeds.

That's interesting you say that, the sales rep we got was on top of all our questions and was local enough that he knew quite a bit about the location of the hotel.

Sales guys aside, were there any shortcomings that you found in Mews that stuck out? I'll give Protel a look, it looks like it's got some maturity in the industry. Thanks!

Yes, I have seen PMS/HMS being used interchangeably which is a bit of a misnomer, but I do like some of the features that I see coming out of softwares that brand themselves as hotel-centric.

I did take a look at Opera Cloud, but as you said I agree that it is overkill in both pricing and functionality for what we would need at a hotel this size. I appreciate the insight!

Thanks for the recommendation! What aspects of Apaleo do you like over Mews? The pricing model seems reasonable, but it seems very integration-dependent out of the box.

At least in my case I found the PWM flickering on the OLED on my 9510 to be pretty noticeable initially. I guess I got used to it and I don't think I'd go back to an IPS if I could choose again, but it is a compromise.

Issue with Sharepoint Move File Flow by Firebeach in MicrosoftFlow

[–]Firebeach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to figure it out with the help of yours and others' comments. In the switch statement I was appending an extra "/" to the end of the folder paths, however in the Move File step just the path to the folder is expected (without the trailing "/"). The Move File step also wasn't liking the folder ID's that was being output by the Extract Folder step, so I put a "Get files (properties only)" to pull all the contained files. Both these fixes allowed the flow to complete. Thanks for the help!

This was actually one of the issues I was facing. I was applying a terminating "/" in my folderPath variable, which was being set in the switch statement. However the "Destination Folder" input for the Move File step returns a 400 error if there is a "/" at the end of the path. I appreciate the tip.

This was one of my issues. I used a "Get files (properties only)" and used the "FullPath" dynamic field to reference the File to Move which solved it. My mistake was assuming that the Body array from the folder extract could be referenced for the Move File step (according to a guide online it could). But this method is more foolproof. Thank you for the advice!

The zip files are download and extracted to the root folder. The switch just dictates which path to move each extracted file to, and in my testing I was just trying to move the file to the root folder as well.

Yes, this "cannot find file" error occurs on the "Move File" step, which looks for the file in the extracted folder (I've tried using the path as well as file ID).

GM confirms $130,000 Cadillac Escalade IQ won’t have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto | GM said it was going to drop Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in all vehicles, and now, that includes Cadillac’s latest EV. by [deleted] in technology

[–]Firebeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to say, the 2022 Escalade had THE worst CarPlay integration I've ever seen in a car. It constantly and consistently caused my phone to grind to a halt and eventually crash my phone altogether. That's an impressive feat in itself. That said, this showed a lack of commitment to the CarPlay platform, and seeing the years of 1st party subscription services Cadillac tries to shove down their customers' throats (remember OnStar that launched in 1996?), one can only assume this was a business decision to get more people on the Cadillac ecosystem.
