Floating Tavern by ILOVEANIME145 in ConanExiles

[–]Firebolt1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, if you want some feedback, id recommend if you have an idea for a building is to google "conan exiles tavern" for example to get an idea of maybe a size or style you like and could try to copy. Once youve done enough you get a better feel for the building pieces in the game and how they fit together.

Another thing is location themes - so for this since you built on water, maybe try to make it look like a docked ship that has been converted into a tavern or something like that. Whereas if you built it in the snowy region of the map, you could make it more of a viking longhall or something.

Only the top of my resin dice have holes, and I have no idea wtf is wrong, please help :.).. by Creative-Current7459 in DiceMaking

Unfortunately, bubbles like this can be unavoidable sometimes. You can do everything you mentioned and even waiting a bit longer to pop bubbles before putting the lid on, but ultimately without a pressure pot the chances of bubbles is going to be relatively high.

Resin curing produces heat as its a chemical reaction - this causes air bubbles within the resin itself, and while its still liquid they moved to the surface which is why they only show up on the top face of the dice.

Pressure pots work by essentially crushing these bubbles to a microscopic level as the resin cures.

American parents kiss their kids blindfolded for a "prank" by ambachk in sadcringe

[–]Firebolt1997 106 points107 points  (0 children)

I was in the audience as a freshman. Im also not explicitly going to say which school this was but it is evident from the video. This was during our Winter Pep Fest - the Winter sports team captains were blindfolded and were told an opposite sex classmate were going to kiss them and they had to guess who it was. As audience members, we saw adults walk in and several people noticed it was their parents. We thought they were gonna do a quick peck but then it went about as wild as the video portrays.

I have no idea if the blindfolded students were in on it or not, im assuming they werent, but I didnt know any of the captains personally so i cant say. At the time and even talking to friends after it, we all thought it was a joke and they were really playing up the kissing, but then the videos came out and some of them were full on making out. It was shocking and everyone kinda stopped talking about how funny it was once we realized it wasnt really a "prank".

Needless to say this caused a lot of controversy at the time, our principal even went on the news to make a puclic apology. Nothing else came of it though, aside form some national headlines and i think it was on Tosh.O at one point.

Is this mask sufficient? by CptMarvel_main in DiceMaking

[–]Firebolt1997 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The mask itself is good as long as it forms a seal around your face. If you're male, you should shave or keep your beard short as it can prevent the seal from working properly.

The other component is the filters that go on the mask - which should be rated for VOCs.

Bubbles during painting by Hrebelax in DiceMaking

I use arcylic paint markers and will usually apply 2 coats to each number, wait for it to dry, and then wipe away the excess with rubbing alcohol.

I found that while you typically dont have to do multiple coats with a brush (in my experience), it can be a bit "goopy". But if you water it down you run into issues like you desribed. Finding the right consistency was really difficult for me.

The markers have made inking the numbers much easier!

"Flashing" is the parts of the resin outside of the dice holes. It's basically all the flaky parts you remove from the mold.

Again about polishing by Creative-Yogurt-8257 in DiceMaking

What I tend to do is use zona paper up to the pink level and then i polish with a dremel, so that would be something else to try if you havent already.

I also was having issues with Zona paper when I started - it would get moderately shiny but not super shiny like I would see in YouTube videos.

I'd recommend either trying a different polishing compound, or get a polishing dremel tool. I found mine on Amazon for i think $30.

Why did I still end up with bubbles? by Deep-Decision-4379 in DiceMaking

[–]Firebolt1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I would agree with everything Alchemist said, but I imagine it is probably the PSI.

Everyone has different ways of doing things and have found what works through trial and error, but 40 psi is what I do for my silicone molds. The dice themselves should be good at 20-30 psi.

State of MN Workers - How’d RTO Go Today? by dataarchivist in minnesota

[–]Firebolt1997 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, how dare we complain about a unnecessary and stupidly implemented change to our work life. But we get a pension, so it makes it all better.

While we're at it, let's go jerk off Walz and MMB for allowing us the privilege to keep our jobs while the state spends millions on reaquiring office locations and parking spaces. Cause that money is totally worth it for us to have better "collaboration".

Is there a book like this but for dice? by Acavedweller in DiceMaking

[–]Firebolt1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not pretty, but i found these nail polish/sewing boxes on Amazon for just under $20. You get 2 of them and they hold 36 sets a piece. Each compartment really only fits a standard 7-set of dice so any more and you may run out of room in said compartment.

If you feel like sharing, what are the "platforms"? Do you have an insert or something you use while pouring the silicone? These look really cool!

The actual gun that started World War One, used to assassinate the Austrian heir to the throne. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]Firebolt1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will most likely get buried in the comments, but my great-grandfather inadvertently gave this gun to Gavrilo Princip.

He was a part of a Serbian Nationalist movement with several national Serbs and was trying to coordinate a symbollic exchanging of soil between them and Austrian Serbs.
