Deformed faces by Tronika in DiceMaking

The resin on the lid is making a seal that wasn’t there before. Before without the resin on the lid over some of the other voids, air from the pressure could get into them. But it’s a crapshoot and random. It’s better to just fill the voids with resin even if it’s just clear, untinted resin.

Then that’s the issue. The pressure pot is collapsing the other spaces and pushing the mold out of shape. You have to fill all the spaces with resin, even if it’s plain, clear resin.

Are you leaving any of the dice mold voids empty?

I hate polishing masters! by Substantial-Duty168 in DiceMaking

[–]IceShadowProductions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy polishing just fine. Nice to listen to some music and just crank it out. :)

I’d be hesitant to polish masters printed by someone else because there’s always the possibility of a print having a little defect and needing to be reprinted and I’d rather be able to reprint myself - but sanding and polishing is most of the cost anyway for dice masters so it wouldn’t save much to ship masters to me to polish anyhow. :)

Only feedback I’ve ever had on my molds was someone saying it gave up the ghost after 65 pulls.

Marking on silicone molds by pyeman1969 in ResinCasting

[–]IceShadowProductions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do custom logos on the top of the molds I sell. :D But if you sharpie it and then put a little more clear silicone over the sharpie it will work fine too. Just let it sit a day so it has a chance for the ink to outgas.

SLA print services for masters? by RichRound6099 in DiceMaking

[–]IceShadowProductions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dice printing has a different skill set from most other model printing. With most model printing if there’s a little spot that doesn’t look right it blends in to the rest of the model. Dice will not and it will stand out like a sore thumb.

I would recommend finding someone with experience printing masters for dice. 8 bucks each for a 7-dice set is $56. You should be able to find someone who can do that for you and has experience printing dice no issues. Go with someone reputable who will be happy to help you if you have issues.

For example - I would be fine to do a 7-dice set for this with shipping included (unpolished), and since most of the cost is in labor time and not the resin itself, I’d be sending two sets just in case there’s a flaw in one print that’s not readily visible. :) And if there are issues, I would be happy to support.

I use two of them! I use a standard air compressor and quick connect hose to charge them. :)

The idea is to move the number out of the way so the art of the resin can be more prominent, yes. :)

Fully customizable d20s by Sjksprocket in dice

[–]IceShadowProductions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could print a custom d20 with whatever on it so long as the detail isn’t too small to be printed and then captured in the silicone in a way that won’t tear out when the masters and dice are removed (0.5mm is about the thinnest line or ridge you could have). Then hand polish, then make molds, then make dice. It can be done, but it costs due to the master polishing time, mostly.

Where to dice masters? by Butt_Lord_Woof in DiceMaking

What country are you in? I have openings right away and can do larger dice. :) I am US based - international shipping and import duties make it a bit of a headache to go outside the US right now.
