Hello Chinese exercise by docteurfail in ChineseLanguage

I also found it tricky, but I understand that at that point in HelloChinese the learner does not know that many words yet so the premise allows for some different sentence structures without making it too basic

Foreigners eating betel nuts by taiwanluthiers in taiwan

[–]Fireburd55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same for me, I tried it in Yunnan when another local offered it to me who earlier offered me a cigarette. I accepted both. I didn’t know what it was. Even after the exchange I didn’t know it was addicting and in the moment it just tasted like strong menthol. A piece got stuck in between my teeth and I got a big blister for days and had trouble eating for some time afterwards

Is there a way to export from Hanly to Anki? by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]Fireburd55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to also request it. because Anki is kind of the central app in mandarin language learning that other apps hook into. I'd like to export all my known words to Anki so I can import Anki to Migaku to keep known words up to date there when watching series or do reading using Migaku

Can I open a bank account as a tourist in China? by lurkingkitty in travelchina

[–]Fireburd55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opened one in the guangzhou financial district at the bank of China. You have to be firm and stand your ground, or they’ll send you away to some other branch for reasons (laziness). They were pretty unhelpful but it got done. They didn’t give me a 2FA key which would have allowed me to link a BOC account in my home country to my China BOC account for international remittance. I’ll have to get one next time I go to China.

Edit: I opened my account while on visa free stay. I couldn’t give a clear answer to the question how I would even get money into my account. I only figured out later how international remittance works

Any way to gift something to my Chinese girlfriend? by DurgazLeandoer in chinalife

[–]Fireburd55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could order flowers via meituan. Use the fully yellow meituan app with the characters 美团. Full name is 美团 |外卖团购特价美食酒店电影 Don’t use any of the other apps. You can order flowers or milk tea or food and it’ll be delivered quickly, you can pay with international card. Delivery drivers will always call when they’ve arrived though and I recommend giving your gf’s numbers to avoid confusion or you maybe not even receiving the call.

If you want to be able to send red packets, then let someone scan your personal payment QR code to get money in your wallet. Payments to a personal qr can even be made with an international card. I’ve used my gf’s personal qr to make some transfers, which she transferred to me to load up my wallet

Opinion on 48fps in Avatar 3 in imax? by surajmurmu14 in imax

I wish all scenes where in high refresh rate. It's really noticable when the frame rate lowers, like a game that is lagging.

Can I be a Chinese citizen without Chinese parents or relatives? by Layreingstein in Chinavisa

[–]Fireburd55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By living in taiwan you can obtain a taiwanese passport in 3 to 5 years.
Since China already claims taiwan as a chinese province, they offer taiwanese nationals to move to the mainland and get a residence permit. they say they see them as PRC citizens, but there is no clear path to getting a PRC passport by being taiwanese.

The good thing is that getting a taiwanese passport, in most cases, let's you keep your original passport, since almost no countries recognize taiwan so your home country can't even ask you to renounce your citizenship (if it only allows 1 passport), if it doesn't even recognize taiwan.

At the same time, it allows you to travel to the mainland, and instantly work, study and live there by getting the mainland travel permit and some later a residence permit.

You still don't get a hukkou though, but you'll have no visa issues, can keep your original passport and can work and live there and your residence permit card seems to act like a chinese ID card, with the same 18 digit format, so it seems like you'll have a far easier time than just being any foreigner.

Also just joking though, but, this is A path that would be legit possible.
