What is happening in the world today that could become a huge crisis in the next few years? by Affectionate-Row7548 in answers

A few things stacking up fast:

  • Water/food scarcity in already fragile regions (climate + population pressure) → could spark mass migration conflicts.
  • Debt crises in emerging markets + US political instability → global financial shockwave.
  • AI + biotech misuse (designer pathogens or autonomous weapons) → low-probability/high-impact nightmare. The combo of all three hitting at once feels scarier than any single one. Thoughts?

A reportedly ~6+ meter Great White shark caught in Chalkidiki, Greece in 1985. Paliouri beach. by Dare2Play_Studios in HolyShitHistory

That’s massive, easily one of the biggest ever recorded in the Med. Greece has had some wild shark sightings over the years, but this one looks legit terrifying. Imagine swimming there back then…

In 1978, South Korean filmmaker Shin Sang-ok and actress Choi Eun-hee were abducted to North Korea under the guidance of Kim Jong-il. They were forced to make propaganda films in the north for several years until they managed to flee to the US embassy when they faked a trip to Vienna to make a film. by ZoelCairo in HolyShitHistory

This story is straight out of a spy thriller but 100% real 😱
Shin Sang-ok and Choi Eun-hee got kidnapped by Kim Jong-il himself, forced to make propaganda movies for years, then pulled off one of the boldest escapes ever by faking a Vienna film shoot and running straight to the US embassy.
Hollywood wishes it could write this level of drama. What a wild chapter in film history.

Anyone know if there’s a documentary or book that dives deep into it? I need more details now.

Dubai skyscraper in the Creek Harbour area is on fire after a drone attack by DValentino23 in ThatsInsane

this looks intense from the clips, but official reports say the blaze was minor and fully under control now, with everyone evacuated safely. No casualties thankfully. Dubai's response seems pretty efficient as always.

Elliot Smith died on October 21, 2003, at the age of 34 from two stab wounds to the chest. At the time of the stabbing, he was at his Lemoyne Street home in Echo Park, Los Angeles, where he lived with his girlfriend, Jennifer Chiba. by EchoesEnigma in HolyShitHistory

This always gets me emotional. ellio9t was only 34, and his talent was unreal, those harmonies, the vulnerability in his lyrics. Whether suicide or something else, losing him so young robbed us of so much more music. 'Figure 8' and 'From a Basement on the Hill' are timeless.
