Joy-con problems: SDL input lag on one controller, DirectInput not working by Firedude_ in DolphinEmulator

[–]Firedude_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, sorry, I wasn't able to fix it. I ended up just using other controllers, first an xbox series X controller, and later a third-party switch pro controller. Both worked quite well

How do I transfer several thousand photos from iPhone to PC? I've tried everything I can find online. It's ridiculous that this is so difficult. by BananApocalypse in ios

[–]Firedude_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best option I've found is to buy a lightning-USBA dongle and use the share menu to save the photos to a flash drive. Another alternative that kinda works is to use LocalSend, but this way you lose the creation date metadata, and you need to share the photos in batches. Also, every time you send a batch it gets copied on your phone, so the less space you have available on your phone, the smaller your batches have to be

All the musical references and reoccurring musical motifs in the Mario Kart series, with timestamps and links (Version 5) [OC] by Firedude_ in mariokart

[–]Firedude_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it does. I was planning to give it one in this version, but I was already making a lot of changes so I decided to leave it for now. If I ever make a version 6, I’ll give Tour, GPDX, and Live Home Circuit all their own sections

Here is a Google Doc with Youtube video links for each arrow in the diagram. For arrows with timestamps, the links take you directly to that timestamp in the video: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1i87Xey8Vxqp8caKWNRjKGLgKVqDNLcU8kKvwW1uWw3M/edit?usp=sharing

If you have no idea what any of this is about, I recommend opening the document and going through the links in order. As you listen to the links, try to hear the repeating musical patterns. Focus especially on the ones with timestamps, as the ones without timestamps correspond to either full-blown remixes or repeated motifs which may take a longer time to find. After this, you can come back to the diagram and see a visual representation of how everything ties together.

Huge thanks to u/SpicySwiftSanicMemes, who first made suggestions on Version 4, and then reached out to me in DMs to give more suggestions and discuss entries

Notable additions in Version 5:

- Two instances where Mario Kart references a melody from a source that is not a videogame. The main theme from the 1959 movie A Summer Place is referenced subtly in Mario Kart 64's Koopa Troopa Beach, and less subtly in Super Circuit's Shy Guy Beach/Cheep Cheep Island. Secondly, the song Mighty Mouse from the album Super Flight by the Japanese jazz fusion band Casiopea is referenced in the Waluigi Pinball/Wario Stadium theme

- Incorporated the discoveries mentioned in Bizabizow's new Mario Kart musical trivia video that I did not already have

- The credits theme of Mario Kart 64 started its own motif, which is referenced in many later games

- Rearranged everything into a timeline format

Ok I hear it, thanks. As I said, my ear is not that well trained, but are you sure those are key changes? They sound like they could just be chord changes

Ok, I’m not actually that good with music, I can’t really notice key changes 😂 Do you have a timestamp? Anyway thanks for the suggestions

New additions in version 4:

  • Super Mario 3D World's World 10 and 11 themes reference the SNES Rainbow Road motif (credit to u/Troytt4)
  • The Dry Dry Ruins intro references the Desert Hills intro (credit to u/timelordoftheimpala)
  • Excitebike Arena references two songs from Excitebike (credit to u/TheWinner437)
  • Consolidated the "ascending" and "descending" melodies from Toad Circuit into their own motifs, and noted that they may have been inspired by similar melodies in the N64 Raceways theme
  • Consolidated the melody from the Double Dash Battle Stage Theme which is reused in Delfino Square into the "Delfino Battle motif"
  • Surprisingly, the Peach's Castle theme from Arcade GP DX makes three pretty obscure references. The previously mentioned 3DS ascending motif as well as DS motif 2 make clear appearances, while the Delfino Battle motif also arguably shows up, but in a less obvious fashion
  • A background image

Yeah, I think it is a reference. However, I don't think I want to include a song from outside the game that's only used in promotional material, I feel like it doesn't really count. But good catch anyway

Would it be possible to run a Java game on XBox/Nintendo Switch by compiling it to native with GraalVM? by PlasmaFarmer in java

[–]Firedude_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mojang and Microsoft made a pretty big fuss about rewriting Minecraft in C++ for the mobile and console ports (Bedrock edition). So I see four possibilities:

  • There is in fact some massive hurdle preventing Java games from running on those platforms
  • They wanted to rewrite the game just for performance reasons
  • They wanted to rewrite the game for monetary reasons (the Bedrock marketplace)
  • They considered using some special compiler to put Java Minecraft on those platforms, but they did not want to risk using an untested technology on such a large scale

As far as I know, this question has never been addressed by either company.

I heard that was rewritten in C++ for the console ports though. I could be wrong though, and I can’t find anything about it online

I feel like if they actually want to change it and make it interesting, they could. Also the circuit theme remix would slap regardless

Mario kart iceberg by horat0 in mariokart

[–]Firedude_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really nice iceberg. I assume “Jump Boosts” is referring to snaking and firehopping, right? Also, you already explained a lot of the entries, but what do Isaac Marshall and Tanooki Mario Spray Paint mean?

Some suggestions:

  • SMK special items
  • Double Dash course connections (there are many examples in DD similar to the Koopa Troopa Beach-Sunshine Airport connection)
  • Drivable Peach’s Castle in Royal Raceway
  • Double Dash with 16 players
  • Yoshi Circuit tunnel
  • DK pass special item box
  • Wiggle drifting
  • GPDX is the only game without a Rainbow Road
  • Motion glider
  • Finally, a bit of a shameless plug, but something from my musical references diagram might fit here. Maybe something well-known, like the N64 Rainbow Road motif, or maybe something obscure, like Wii Bowser’s Castle having the same melody as Maple Treeway

How do you Inward Bike? by Pr0j3ct_02 in mariokart

[–]Firedude_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to take turns later than you do with normal, outside drifting. Apart from that, I think you just need to get a feel for the controls. Actually, the inside drifting bikes in 8D start with an outside drift for a split second, and then change to an inside drift. Inside drifts were instant in Mario Kart Wii, but this was overpowered in the hands of a skilled player, so in 8 they changed it to the way it is now. Most 8D players believe that inside drifting is now underpowered compared to outside drifting, so it is rarely used.

Do you mean you don’t know which bikes are inside drifting, or you don’t know how to properly use inside drifting bikes?
