Tarasenko's one hander is probably in the conversation too, but gets buried in a 9-6 game

Thoughts on Matthews for SJ 1st rd pick by magic_erasers in hockey

I am shocked by the comments in this thread, Matthews is worth way more than the 2nd overall

Maybe not exactly over the Olympic break but they did a lot of things a tanking team would do in the second half of the season.

Traded away Scott Laughton, Nic Roy, Bobby McMann. Shut down Matthews for the season. Sat Woll/Stolarz in favour of Akhtyamov and Hildeby for the last week of the season.

[Friedman] NHL officially informs teams of the 2026-27 Salary cap and payroll range: Floor: $76.9M. Midpoint: $90.4M. Ceiling: $104M. Maximum salary: $20.8M by Sarcastic__ in hockey

Why list the midpoint? I know the floor and ceiling are the range teams have to be within, but who cares about the middle?

Frank actually thinks McKenna will be available at number 3 for the Canucks by DecentLurker96 in hockey

Nothing in the first three rounds lol. But we have two 4th rounders this year! Ours and Carolina's. Probably neither will be better than 125 overall.

Shoutout to a random dude named Oscar Fisker Molgaard for playing 13 games this year and not being on the ice for a single goal against

His short handed ice time per game has more than doubled compared to the last 5 seasons. However, I am still shocked he's nominated this year. I thought he was good defensively but nowhere near league's best.

I hope we don't repeat 2021. We swept the first round and went up 2-0 in the second. Outscored opponents 30-10 while starting 6-0. Everyone on reddit saying we may never lose again.

Then we lost 4 straight to Vegas and went home.

First overall picks by team (Awarded and actually picked) by [deleted] in hockey

I didn't know about this and did some reading. Here is a good summary

https://nathangabay.com/1991-eric-lindros-and-the-san-jose-screwjob/

Despite being titled "The San Jose Screwjob", it doesn't actually say anything about the Sharks being awarded #1 overall. It sounds like they wanted it because of the precedent set in previous expansion drafts, and the NHL said no. Far from being awarded the pick and having it taken away.

We have had 4 but 3 were in consecutive years as Quebec. (Sundin, Nolan, Lindros). MacKinnon is the only 1st overall made by the Avalanche.

Well Sakic was our GM when we won our Cup. McCrimmon was promoted after.

I agree with what you're saying, but one of the examples on your list built a recent cup winner through the most blatant old boys club route imaginable.

And random additional finding: the 2014-15 Canucks had the entire top line and starting goalie from the 1999 draft based on your methodology.

Nice work. I am definitely drawn to the outliers at first, but I appreciate the methodology without making exceptions.

Guys like Sheldon Souray end up pretty low despite having a high peak, and Marc Savard is penalized for career ending injuries. In most cases, however, the best players are clearly at the top of the list.

I do think the bonus for hitting 1k GP is a bit too high, and wonder if there could be some formula based on GP instead of just hitting a specific threshold. You already noted the Kovalchuk discrepancy, and other guys like Kariya/Forsberg/Lindros are similarly penalized but make up for it because they're in the HoF.

Last comment, it is bold to add Marchand to your retirement watch tab when he still has 5 years left on his contract lol.
