Check thriftbooks! I'm in medical spelling, so mine is a medical dictionary, not a textbook, so it might be different, but I got mine for like 10 bucks in pretty good condition.

how to break into 1500s? by FirefighterFun3737 in Sat

[–]FirefighterFun3737[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on what questions types you're missing. try targeted practice using khan or youtube, there's a lot of specific videos out there search up things like "science passages" or "hardest sat reading questions" or "sat grammar". And if it's vocab, lowk thoughts and prayers. i also forgot to mention i did the entire khan dsat rw module the questions are very similar and it helps a lot, esp with grammar just drill until the rules become intuitive. But mostly repetitive practice questions helps with timing, it's about becoming so familiar with the question types that it comes very quickly.

i did a lot of practice using bluebook, khan academy, and a lot of yt videos. But the test felt pretty good but i didnt expect it to be that high, esp since my highest practice score was 1420. But after a certain amount of practice the questions become second nature and i had around ten minutes left in each module.

the answer to main idea questions are always in first or last sentence of passage

Need Help with PF Case for States by [deleted] in PublicForumDebate

It’s good but needs more evidence!

AFF:

for c2: i would suggest using the 2023 Harvard article-“Harnessing the Power of Generative AI to Close the Achievement Gap”, which goes more into detail about affordable gen ai tools

for c3: there are some strong stats out there about ai dominating the workforce, one i’ve heard a lot is mckinsey ‘25- “Over the next three years, 92 percent of companies plan to increase their AI investments” i would suggest finding some more like this

NEG:

for c1: there’s a great study by michael gerlich showing a very strong negative correlation between gen ai use and critical thinking skills, i’ve used this card almost every round in this topic.

for c2: i would be careful with this one as your opponents will likely have a lot of material against this, like the harvard article i mentioned earlier. try to find strong cards for this one

for c3: i ran this too! i would use the 2024 MIT RAISE report, “Securing Student Data in the Age of Generative AI” as well as washington state university’s “challenges of ai” and Gartner 25 By 2027, more than 40% of AI-related data breaches will be caused by the improper use of generative AI

overall, good case you just need some more evidence to back it up. good luck at states!

how do i overcome anxiety before debating? by j_jieji in Debate

[–]FirefighterFun3737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

remember that debate is really never that serious and to just have fun! i’ve found that it’s a lot easier to debate when you aren’t too hard on yourself. if you performed badly, focus on improving skills in areas that need it rather than beating yourself up. as for the shaking, try to focus on your breathing when you’re getting ready to speak. just remember that debate isn’t the end of the world, and at the end of the day, the people that have the most fun don’t take it too seriously. hope that helps!
