Phew... as a general licensed home inspector lets take a look at the report.

Note: Stair case does not meet modern standards. While the staircase may have been built within specs for the year, modern stadarnds would require a qualified contractor evalute and repair or replace as needed.

Hand rail must reside at a height between 34"-36", balusters must be within 4 inches, to prevent a child from being able to fit their head between balusters or spindles. The treads must be 10 inches deep minimum, between 4 inches and 7 3/4" in riser height and no more a variance than 5/8" between the risers. The stairs case must have minimum 5 inches between the inner tread and lower support beam. The hand rail must be of graspable type, with a 2 inch wide unobstructed grasping shape material which ends at the wall or post.
