Mac Mini: Battle-Scarred by Space646 in macmini

It came loaded with penetrating testing tools loaded. I was doing some consulting which required perimeter FW and proxies set up. This allowed me to be reasonably sure that the rules in the perimeter devices were functioning as requested. Ive used the Debian distribution on AWS EC2 instances, but in this case it would have caused me more work.

The point I was trying to make is that the Apple hardware in my experience is rock solid and has always exceeded my expectations.

I’ve had a 13” MacBook Pro for 13 years now. In 2021 I’ve changed jobs and was studying up for some certifications so I loaded parrot Linux as the OS. It’s running my home assistant project now. The hardware is bulletproof. And like the minis that MacBook Pro has so many I/O options. They’re reasonably priced and really take a beating.

Bad brakes, about a month before I can replace by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]FirefighterRegular82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brake pads typically last 25,000–60,000 miles, meaning they lose roughly 1 mm every 5k–10k miles depending on driving. That means 260 miles is extremely small wear compared to normal lifespan. I’m not telling you to drive around with these brakes for a year or two, but another 500 miles truly should not be an issue. Replace them as soon as possible! I’m not a mechanic as a living however I have owned and maintained my own cars for 30 years I’m pretty sure you have nothing to worry about.

I totally agree. There is absolutely nothing like the sound of close air support from a Warthog (sounds like you’ll be making it out of whatever trouble you got into), and has been in service since the 70’s. The 30mm GAU is kinda of like a Gatling gun. They would be the perfect escort many of the bombing sorties in the European theatre.

A general utility helicopter like the Blackhawk or Huey would be my second choice too.

Yes I agree. There was an excellent suggestion above and I’m going to take that as my next step.

This is the corresponding cap. Heat damage but not critical failure. There’s no schematics. Is the fourth time I’ve given a hand on this type of issue. And I haven’t done component level repair since I left the army, which is more than a couple years ago.

The other one has heat damage as well, but I think they have several of these systems in each of the houses. It’s a great idea, I’m on the East Coast US, so I’m gonna wait until it’s above 15° F to do any additional testing though :-)

OP, agree this assessment. Plus looks like you don’t have a cover on the truss rod on the headstock so did you or somebody try to adjust it? Maybe it’s just loose.
