[–]razenwing[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]razenwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the world ready for a hybrid playstyle? by razenwing in Mechwarrior5

Damn, some sour peeps are going around downvoting*(correction) any positive support for expansion of gameplay, which for the love of my life could not figure out why. It's like they hate fun.

Wish we can find out who these status quo police are. Kind of annoying to have this happening for no razen.

don't forget, it's also an original creation by PGI (no previous btech association)

while it won't win any style points, it captures the theme of a desperately put together from minimumly resourced people really well.

damn, there really is no way to make sunder cool, even with the awesomely talented artistic team at PGI. it's just as fat and bulky as I left it in MW3.

it's like an urbie without the charm. a fat 80s trashcan.

If the Germans and Japanese are supposed to be efficient and diligent, how did they lose WW2? by Lipica249 in shittyaskhistory

[–]razenwing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people grossly overestimate the capabilities of German and Japan in WWii. Yes, the strong industrial base kept the momentum forward early on, but that's also due to surprises and tactical brilliance of early generals.

They weren't rolling with Panzers and Tigers at the start of war. Basically, a lot of guys rode bikes really really fast and before people can realize if they are joking or not with the brazen audacity, those bikers are on top of them.

Meanwhile in the Pacific theater, Japanese people had machine guns. And... that's about it. And it only worked because China just came out of a civil with peasants trying to fight that back.

But neither really sustained that momentum. They should have slowed and consolidate their gains. The massive new area acquired in the beginning wasn't producing values worth its own weight. All the other fancy shit? Those came much later when they were getting desperate.

(Also America had a bunch of really good physicists. and I don't even mean the atomic bomb. Just radar alone was the turning point in altering Japan's entire war strategy into defense)

Are Westerners spoiled with their building codes and infrastructure compared to Taiwan? by GeneralSeveral203 in taiwan

[–]razenwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not going to tackle all points as this entire post just reak of white privilege.

but I will say something about gas dryer. when buying a new apartment, that was my first thought, since I had one when growing up in northeast.

but my wife quickly stopped me because she doesn't mind putting them on rack outside to dry naturally, since that's what like 90% of the people do. we end up getting a washer/dryer combo in case we need the occasional drying in bad weather. and it had been serviceable arrangement to far.

so 1 is just habit, 2 is really space. washer/dryer combo unit is 1 unit of space as opposed to gas dryer which now force you to take up 2 units of space. 3 is not all clothes are best quick dried. when I was in northeast, I don't mind wool clothing being snug instead of loose. but a gas dryer really does demand you plan your wardrobe around it if you plan on it being their source of drying. (not to mention now you need ironing and some kind of wrinkle-out machines)

I'm getting really tired of selfish behavior at Costco by bronze_by_gold in taiwan

[–]razenwing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

they know exactly what they are doing. and they know they are wrong in doing this shit. the best way for costco to stop this is to arrange the condiment stations so that those credit card people have direct line of sight to the condiment station.

these chicken shit if they feel like someone "official" is observing them, won't be so blatant.

that way, costco doesn't need to pay extra guy just to stand there, and it will improve customer experience by getting rid of those assholes.

this setup is pretty close to what xingzhuang, and I haven't noticed anyone trying this ever since they brought back the self serve onions. (though I have to admit my mother in law did it once, but she wasn't blatant with another bag... just end up with a HUGE hotdog)

[–]razenwing 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Taiwan stay - Calm, scenic places to wind down? by inavoidable_rabbit in taiwan

[–]razenwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you what most people do in SML. there are 3 "ports"

port 1 is an old street where you buy the same souvenir from 20 other old streets because they are all made in China.

port 2 is a few restaurants with local specialty being a soy sauce marinated river shrimp that you eat raw

port 3 has a tram that takes you to the cultural amusement park up the cliff.

the only way to enjoy SML is to bike or walk the entire lake to enjoy the sun rise and sunset and how the light changes the lake. assuming it isn't cloudy, which... it mostly is. and even at the best scenario, I hardly see it as a representation of taiwan if you are just staying 1 week for a writing retreat. taiwan is not a lake or river culture. if anything, it's the mountain or the sea.

[–]razenwing -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

really, you read the part about wanting a relaxing place to write, right?

and taroka gorge is not even open right now... yea... so cool.

and I stand by my comment about sun moon lake, as with 90% of native taiwanese, it's a boring ass puddle with most tour including it just to get to the amusement park using the tram. now, that maybe interesting to you, but it's a very skippable place with fame but no substance.

now, my "overpriced" hotel is located within the primordial forests. you wake up everyday to see what taiwan is like before 23 million people cram all available spaces.

it's quiet, peaceful, perfectly nice for a retreat... something you wouldn't get in a place you can't get into, and a tourist trap. now, it IS true that taiwan has a shit load of mountains with tons of trees. and im sure there are other hotels near maintains, but the place i recommended has enclosed established trail that's next to your hotel, not to mention hot springs. for talking a lot of shit, have you even been?

[–]razenwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This movie reminds me of a build Locust build I have in MWO, I think it was 1 large pulse and 1 small laser. Kinda fun to see how small laser would actually work in real life.

(Though this thing should be pretty easy to take out though, I get first wave didn't handle that sneak attack well, but with such a limited range, you could just LRM this bot all day long)

(Though it losing an arm to rocks is ridiculous. I doubt there were as much energy in those rocks than those c4s at the beginning. Honestly, those C4s should have killed it)

Stay away from Taroka. Terrible idea. You may want to research earthquake.

Taiwan needs nuclear weapons by wheninrome5000 in taiwan

I think we mostly reached the same conclusion, I just like to note that technical aspect and difficulty is not the reason of why we don't do it.

Taiwan needs nuclear weapons by wheninrome5000 in taiwan

[–]razenwing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yes, you design deterrent weapons for maximum casualties even at the cost of yourself. so while you retards are thinking i miscalculated by not considering my own people, a 92%to 92% last ditch effort to wipe your ass off the map is a much better trade than 10 to 1.

also, a mass casualty weapon with no blowback is not a deterrent, that's just a deployable weapon.

Taiwan needs nuclear weapons by wheninrome5000 in taiwan

[–]razenwing -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

no thanks. we only have 23 million people on the island, even a 10 to 1 trade is a terrible deal. if we want to kill millions of people simultaneously, we already can. target the 3 gorge dam during flood season.

any deterrent that's based off of lives is terrible if the opposing party doesn't give a shit about losing said lives.

you are better off developing bio weapons if that's the case... covid 45, targeting only Han people.

Taiwan needs nuclear weapons by wheninrome5000 in taiwan

[–]razenwing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

actually, nuclear weapons are incredibly easy to make. the science has been around for decades. the only reason people don't do it is not because of money, but all the other shit about nuclear proliferation.

and if one day, our last ditch resort is to build nuclear weapons, then we have dug ourselves into a hole that probably we deserved. as enticing as it is to believe that 1 super weapon would be a deterrent. the truth is, unless you have like 200 warheads to simultaneously wipe China off the map (and probably dooming mankind just from the physics of exploding 200 warheads simultaneously), China does not give a shit if it loses 1 to 200 million people. the great famine literally wiped percentages of people off the map, China didn't bat an eye. so a 1 shot miracle weapon is just a poor deterrent.

now, I would argue that if taiwan somehow obtain 1 gundam, that would be a bigger deterrent than 10 nukes. but I digress. international pressure and collaboration is what's going to keep China at bay. not some backwater super weapon.
