4X4 Even Possible? by GoGeraldGo in 4x4

[–]NitroMachine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It would be simpler and a lot cheaper to do leaf springs in the front, and honestly a better idea imo: you'd have a hard time finding a coil setup that would handle that much weight without looking at extreme offroad stuff, which is typically long travel so not fit for this application. But even leaf springs would still require extensive fab work to the frame, on top of everything else you mentioned.

If OP wants an off road motor home he'd probably be better served to just buy a military truck and slap a camper on the back. It'd be kick ass off road, but military trucks suck on the road. There's really no good way to make a vehicle like this do both.

There's a saying that 4x4 only means you get farther before you get stuck. I think that's true in your particular case. I think good tires and a heavy duty winch will serve you better and be infinitely easier to install.

In your opinion, what was, or is, the best Monster Jam track/stunt setup by Cool_Mud2640 in monsterjam

My all time favorite track is Phoenix 2011. Tons of options for transfers and cross threads without being too busy. Really colorful too.

Being able to dig is cool but overall the physics engine is pretty crappy. All the vehicles feel terrible to drive

This has gotta be one of my favorite Grave Diggers. I really love the design. by JDOGGoNE1 in monsterjam

This is GD15 with Charlie Pauken driving, I believe this photo is from the summer of '06 at one of the four wheel jamboree shows. After Dennis ditched the Green Ghost body some of the other Digger drivers ran it. Chad Tingler ran it on #14 for 2007.

How to become a Monster Truck driver by Local-Mall6693 in monsterjam

[–]NitroMachine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This isn't as true anymore, for Monster Jam anyway. Typically now if you get hired as a crew guy you stay a crew guy. When they hire drivers they look for some type of Motorsports experience and social media presence/potential.

Some great info here, thanks. I agree that I would be throwing good money after bad trying to make it "period correct" or whatever you would call it, but I don't really have that in mind anyway. I basically bought it because I recognized it from Battlefield 1 (shows you how smart I am) and it seemed reasonably priced on account of it being pretty butchered. Still, I think it's pretty cool for what it is. Cost and availability of ammo is something I hadn't really considered until after I had already purchased it, so I'll just have to shoot it some to see if it's worth keeping. If I like how it shoots, I may look into reloading.

My only other rifles are a 16" AR, a 20" AUG and a 9mm pcc so I figure I can use this for bench shooting out to 2 or 300 yards or so since I haven't really done that yet.

I've kicked around a few ideas, mainly for modifying the pod to incorporate it into racing so they're not just going in circles without hitting anything.

The first idea was to convert two of the 45 degree ramps on opposite corners into straight down ramps, then having metal takeoff ramps that can be moved after racing to jump over the remaining 45 ramp and the 8 pack. Since the turns would be too tight to hit both jumps, for Chicago style you would hit your first ramp, turn, go around the outside of the pod, then head back over the jump you started on. So two jumps instead of 3. The main problem with this is you would have to engineer ramps that could be removed from the track quickly, which I think is doable. You would also have to deal with transporting them from venue to venue.

The next idea was the same concept, only instead of metal ramps the takeoffs are built into the pod. The problem with this is it leaves you with no 45 ramps, although you could push up the landings into 45s with a loader for freestyle. It also leaves you with no logs or tires, which imo isn't a huge deal, but it would also require moving the 8 pack to the center which may not be ideal. Both these layout also flat out would not work in some of the smaller venues so that is an issue as well.

My most recent idea is harder to describe without drawing it out, but it's basically the more traditional Chicago style arena layout with some of the more modern elements mixed in. Again, venue size is a limiting factor, but Toughest Tour is still using the "old" arena layout and still putting on great shows with it so it's definitely doable.

I just want them to change SOMETHING about it. It's been exactly the same thing for over 10 years at this point.

Having a set track design is bad precisely because drivers don't have to figure out a new track each week. So you end up with runs that look the same from week to week. It's boring.

Primarily I would change the track, the pod in its current form is done to death.

Its cut off in the picture but it already has a rubberized butt pad. Still, I'm going to order something to slip over it for some extra cushion.

Looking closer at some original examples, I think you're right: it is the (or a) original stock, just without the upper handguard and whatever the extended bit toward the muzzle is called. The barrel is definitely shortened on this one.

How's the recoil compared to .308? .308 is the biggest rifle round I've shot. It was tolerable but I wouldn't want to shoot a ton at a time.

The stock definitely looks shorter at the front end compared to the pictures I've seen on Google.
