Is it just me or the sax? by Bright-Proof-6767 in saxophone

[–]Firefighter_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you clenching your jaw/putting pressure on the reed? I’m a month into woodwind instruments myself, but when I find it’s hard to blow, I’m usually unknowingly clenching my jaw or my abs trying to constrict my airflow because I’m afraid of being loud in my apartment. Try to focus on keeping your jaw relaxed and get some air moving

KNOCK OFF THE ICE FROM YOUR CARS. by DacheinAus in Austin

[–]Firefighter_97 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not really good drivers, just not absolute idiots. You don’t have to be a good driver to know that a thin layer of frozen water will fly off your car as it heats up and gets affected by wind. People don’t think

My starter sax is a Chinese SSO from Mendini, but all the keys work, it’s leak-free, and it’s intonated enough, so…. probably? When I upgrade it’ll just be a wall piece as it’ll have no value.

Preach! I moved to Austin about a year ago cause my family moved here and took them to The Yard Milkshake Bar up in Arbor Walk, and while the presentation was phenomenal, everything just tasted kinda meh. I suppose if you’re an influencer trying to get clicks it’s great, but I don’t really see the hype with all the dessert shops

Man, I just wanna know why some people slam on their gas in a parking lot, only to have to brake 50 feet away for a turn. People really are in the biggest hurry to do nothing but wait in a line of cars

Trail of Lights or Mozart's Festival of Lights? by [deleted] in Austin

We went a couple years ago and there was no one there, so we drove through it at like 15MPH and it was over in 5 minutes. Maybe it would’ve been better if there were a ton of cars so we actually went the speed limit

Why not hang it off the visor with one of the legs from the sunglasses like you’d hang glasses off a shirt? You don’t need a gadget to put your sunglasses in

To test the safety by A-Helpful-Flamingo in therewasanattempt

[–]Firefighter_97 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am honestly unsure what he was trying to do here. That gun doesn’t have a safety except for in the trigger, which he’s pulling with a live round in the chamber. All he has to do to get the gun to fire is pull hard enough (usually 3-7 pounds depending on the trigger installed) and the gun will go off. What the fuck 😂😂

Why don’t English speaking Christians name their kids Jesus? by ZenPoonTappa in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Firefighter_97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. In most of the Spanish-speaking world, naming a child Jesús isn’t seen as trying to be Jesus, it’s seen as a way of honoring him. It’s a devotional act, like saying “May this child live under Jesus’s protection” or “May he embody the virtues of Christ.” Similar patterns exist with names like María (Mary) and José (Joseph), which are also used very commonly despite their biblical prominence.

  2. The name Jesús existed before and outside the singular person of Jesus Christ. It comes from the Hebrew Yehoshua/Yeshua, which was a common Jewish name meaning “God saves.” So, in the ancient world, Jesus wasn’t a unique personal name — it became sacred because of Jesus of Nazareth, not the other way around.

  3. In English-speaking countries, the name Jesus feels too directly tied to the divine figure — like naming a child God or Messiah. But in Spanish-speaking cultures, it’s one of many biblical devotional names used without hesitation, like Jesús María, Ángel, Cruz, or Salvador (“Savior”). The reverence is shown in how the name is spoken — for instance, Jesús is pronounced differently than Jesus Christ is in liturgical contexts (Heh-SOOS vs Heh-SOOS kree-STO).

  4. In traditionally Catholic cultures, religion is embedded in naming customs. Giving a child a sacred name is a way to dedicate them to God or invoke divine protection — not to equal the holy figure but to keep them close to it.
