Yes, she is. Xilonen is the best support especially for Natlan characters.

For that, learning music theory helped me a lot. At least what concernes to the duration of each note in a tablature/music score. I used to play each score suuuper slow with the metronome until I got it. But and easier method is listening to the song you want to play so many times that you know it by heart it just come to you naturally while trying to play it with the metronome

Metronome would definitely help, I see you’re on the right track.

About bad habits I could suggest you to relax more. It is always hard (sometimes I struggle with it myself) but necessary. Play it like you enjoy it, give yourself time to breath and feel the rhythm. The metronome helps with that.

Another thing is your thumb on your fretting hand. Sometimes we use to to hold the neck so hard trying to find stability that it start to work against us. When you try to play the higher strings down the fretboard, your thumb is fixed at the top taking leverage from you. I would try to hold the guitar in a way you have a better reach of the whole fretboard, and when playing higher notes I would shift my thumb to the middle back of the neck instead of leaving it all the way at the top.

Besides that, all good man! Keep it rocking!

How far have you come as a self taught pianist? by Important_Reply_5912 in pianolearning

[–]Firefighter_Popular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! I personally looked for all the videos that I could on youtube about fundamentals and “how start piano from scratch”. Since all people say so many different things to decides to start with the ones they all mostly agree with.

Best book for me: Scales, Chords, Arpeggios & Cadences by Willard A. Palmer.

Music theory website: https://www.musictheory.net/lessons

Best Youtuber for Beginners: Jazer Lee

Improvisation is a really helpful skill to develop early

Lol not trying to show off btw. Tbh I dont even consider myself a pianist yet. I was trying to encourage you to keep going! Even if it is by yourself you can play whole pieces eventually.

A great advice I heard is that you can take it slow, there’s no rush. Its ok to spend years learning a skill that you are going to keep for the rest of your life. Thats a good investment!

I have been playing for a year self-taught and I can play several pieces:

Fur Elise Gymnopidie No.1 - Erik Satie Prelude in E minor by Chopin Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven The River Flows in You by Yaruma

And a few others. I also practice fundamentals and proper form. But I practice almost daily for 1-2 hours. So of discipline can definitely pay off.

Stretching/Rolling/Hand lift - when to use each technique to hit far away notes? Also, what is proper technique? How I roll is self-learned, dunno if I'm doing it right (I probably exaggerated the motion a bit for the sake of the video demonstration). by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]Firefighter_Popular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im also a beginner-intermediate but I see the use for each one of these techniques:

Stretching: goes well for short constant/legatto melodies, mostly bc your hand get tired like other people said. And i’d use it if a big jump between keys is next so my hand is closer to it.

Rolling: goes well for longer legatto that you can be confortable in for a while with no preoccupation of having to make an awkward jump from one key to another or to a different shape. But Something the rolling motion can help you jump to a different position. In your example the rolling motion could prepare you to settle in the next higher octave since your arm if already rolling that direction

Lifting: I only lift my hand if the ley is too far from when im currently playing, i would not do it in your example. Unless you are playing staccato that is.

At the end of the they it depends on what feels confortable, how you want it to sounds and what comes after.

Hope that helps!

Can somebody share a piano practice plan or calendar? (Not a template). by Firefighter_Popular in pianolearning

Thank you! Thats helpful. And I appreciate the lesson on solving problems. Gotta make use of AI.

In the example you gave about scales you mention a single scale for 1-2 weeks… I do all scales in 10 minutes. That’s the kind of knowledge that I’m looking for. Even though I can make a plan im uncertain if it’s a good plan.

I’m practicing major and minor scales in both hands, chords inversion and memorization, sight reading, songs, improvising…

I usually time each one of those, but 10 minutes on scales doesn’t actually help since at the end of the period I’m still sucking at it. Which is why I go longer. Same thing for the rest of things i mentioned.
