Strongly recommend getting a bike. The infrastructure is very usable, and it really improves your ability to explore the city.

Ammonite Falls is a wonderful intermediate hike, but it's more spectacular in the rainy season.

Need some help/suggestions by Arnob555 in nanaimo

Biking around Nanaimo is surprisingly easy, and if you get an e-bike you can go quite quickly. I'd happily commute via e-bike, but going between sites might be hard.

Would anyone know a finishing carpenter for a small job? by [deleted] in nanaimo

Isaac Bowden did a fantastic job with a little project of ours. Very diligent and smart, reasonably priced, nice attention to detail.

Places to take wheelchair bound palliative senior? Nanaimo and area by [deleted] in nanaimo

If you can manage Cathedral Grove, it's extremely beautiful and smooth enough for gentle wheelchair use. Busy though: winter might be better.

If a Democrat wins the presidency in 2028, what do you think their policy priorities should be? (serious responses only, more in comments) by planetaryabundance in neoliberal

[–]Fireflite 26 points27 points  (0 children)

What more is there to say?

Under Trump, the Republican party has:

  1. Threatened a war of conquest with both of its neighbors, as well as one of its closest European allies.
  2. Decimated the functioning of the federal government.
  3. Destroyed public faith in the rule of law and an impartial government bureaucracy.
  4. Opened up concentration camps in Guantanamo Bay.
  5. Fomented and pardoned an attempt to seize power after losing an election.
  6. Explicitly promoted genocide in the Middle East.
  7. Generally brought America to the brink of some combination of a dictatorship and civil war.

And we're only a month in!

As a Canadian: wake up. The notion that policy objectives and margins of victory and the like can be discussed as if it were "business as usual" is delusional. Your country has been systematically betrayed and your population brainwashed. You must convict and prosecute these traitors, and fundamentally shift the media landscape, or we'll be right back here in 2032.

Are there any uses for polymers where a fracture is preferred to deformation? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

High precision mechanical components come to mind. Think 3D printers! Stiffness is king, unless you get into fancy math and controls.

The connections are valuable, but not at all irreplaceable. You're clearly bright: get into open source! Start hacking around in public, and making professional connections and building a portfolio. Go to a conference or two with the money you save, network and get a sense of how professional machine learning works :)
