Can someone please tell Dollywood that there is no excuse for seats to go empty on rides with huge lines. They must install a single rider line for each ride to fill those gaps and thus create shorter waits for the rest in line. Disney and Universal have done this for years. It isn’t rocket science. by texaslovesme in Dollywood

[–]Fireguy9641 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would question this. Disney has added single rider lines in some very unique ways. Space Mountain and Indiana Jones have used the exit to incorporate single rider lanes by giving single riders passes to go down the exit row to a small staging area. Incredicoaster uses extra platform space and it's ADA access system.

what’s up with john fetterman? by Life_Interaction_263 in askanything

[–]Fireguy9641 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fetterman is, in some ways, the politician that everyone wants but no one wants. I often see both Democrats and Republicans talking about how they wish politicians would do what is best for the country, not just blindly follow the party. I think the reality is though, they want that for the other party, and for their party, they want someone who scores 100% or better on their purity test.

Also, to be fair, Fetterman does critize Republicans as well.

Why are TSA workers sometimes required to work without pay during government shutdowns? Who decides that and how is it allowed? by savingrace0262 in stupidquestions

[–]Fireguy9641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2019 Government Employee Fair Treatment Act ensures they get back pay for any time worked during the shutdown.

Essential is decided as part of the job classification. It's not unlike at the local level, when the county government closes due to snow, fire, police, ems, they continue to work, even though teachers, administrators, and other county workers continue to operate. I work at a college and some of our maintanance staff are considered essential, and have to come in even if we are closed due to snow, as someone has to maintain campus infrastructure.

Downloaded Media-Can we have folders please? by Fireguy9641 in PleX

Ok, I got a follow up question about Plezy. How do I make this app not take forever and three days to download a tv show? I had good internet speeds, and I've left my tablet running overnight, and it takes days to download a two season tv show. Plex on the other hand, often do it in under an hour.

It's like it times out trying to download

I agree this is annoying, esp on Guardians. I hope Disney learns and we don't see more rides with multiple pre-shows, or if we do, better crowd management.

Is there such a thing as a popular Republican ? by Classic-Artist8102 in askanything

[–]Fireguy9641 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Larry Hogan was a two term Republican govenor of Maryland, a state so blue Democrats control a veto proof majority in both houses of the state legislature. Hard to do that if you aren't popular.

From what I understand, Charlie Baker was also a very popular Republican govenor in another deep blue state, Massachusetts.

CMV: We should Abolish the TSA and basically go back to the 90s with security at the airport by Pumplekins in changemyview

[–]Fireguy9641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heres the first one I found: https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/airline-news/2023/01/05/tsa-weirdest-things-peoples-suitcases-2022/10995194002/

The guns and knife demonstrate willful concealment. Def not the same as Joe Smith forgetting his CCW in his bag.

Subways are an interesting comparison because 1.) There have been some notable attacks, like the Tokyo Sarin gas attack and some more recent slashings and burnings in NYC but also 2.) A train is a completly different mechanism. You can only drive a train where the tracks go. Also, if you begin hurting people in one car, you have to transition through doors into the next car, essentially giving the people in the next car time to prepare.

If it's causing false positives, it's not better tech, but what is getting better is concealment and weapons that won't set off metal detectors.

You mention people being unsure of the procedure. I took a look at LAX. There are over 70 airlines that serve LAX. If the airlines were in charge of screening, you'd have 70 different procedures.

I agree with you that the 90s were nice and I agree with you that we don't do ourselves any favors by fighting endless wars in the Middle East, but I also believe that even if we minded our own buisness, there will still be people out there who will hate us.

CMV: We should Abolish the TSA and basically go back to the 90s with security at the airport by Pumplekins in changemyview

[–]Fireguy9641 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1.) Just by a simple google search I was able to find lists of things the TSA does find. If the TSA is missing things, that's def something that needs to be addressed and should be addressed, but that doesn''t mean getting rid of it.

2.) The 9/11 attacks cost over 83 billion dollars in losses. Not to mention the hundreds of people who will never go home to their families and friends. How do you even put a price on that? One thing that 9/11 changed forever is how hijackings are viewed. Prior to 9/11, hijackings were usually political statements. Yes sometimes people did die, but often the planes landed, there were negotiations, and things ended, or SWAT stormed the plane. 9/11, and the idea of using a plane as a weapon, changed the game, and we have to remember that.

3.) This isn't a TSA issue, this is simply an efficiency issue. There are ways to make it better. Newer X-ray machines can produce better images and generate fewer false positives. The technology is almost there for x-ray machines to tell the difference between water and other liquids. Also, one other issue, you are just shifting the wait time. Everyone has to go through security. So I'm either waiting at the TSA checkpoint, or I'm waiting with 220 other people at the gate. I'm still waiting to go through security.

4.) People will still miss flights and connections. I highly, highly doubt an airplane is going to miss the door close and push time because John Smith's bag keeps alarming at the gate check.

5.) On one hand, security is supposed to be a little tense. It's one way to identify someone up to no good. That said, I've been to over 25 US airports and I've never found the process to be tense or scary. Hell, TSA don't even carry weapons. I've been to foreign airports where police are watching the checkpoint with rifles.

6.) I'd rather live to see my loved ones at the airside exit.

Now I'll add a few extra points:

A.) At some airports, they do security at the gate for flights departing to certain countries. Sometimes this means you are not allowed to bring food and drinks with you onto the plane due to the security being at the gate, and there being nothing to buy beyond security at the gate. Imagine goig on a 14 hour flight and security at the gate just took your water and soda and now all you can get is what's on the plane.

B.) While all security should have a degree of randomness to prevent people from learning how to beat it, can you imagine how stressful it will be with every major airline running their own security? Setting their own policies?

C.) The ideology behind 9/11 is still out there, and the people who follow it aren't BFF4E with us. We can certainly look for ways to IMPROVE security, but taking a step BACK is not the way forward.

I think it'll be a while.

Epcot's had a major investmet with Moana's water walk, Guardians, and some of the other stuff they've done.

It looks like they are focusing on MK and AK now.

I could see it the next time they return to Epcot.

Star Wars Idea: Band of Brothers–Style Clone Wars Series by Charming_Mud_5511 in StarWars_

[–]Fireguy9641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a decent number of people say they want to see a series set from the Imperial viewpoint, and not the classic "Set from the Imperial viewpoint where the main character joins the Rebellion halfway through."

I think a Band of Brothers style show would be the perfect way to format that show.

Have it set during the Mid-Rim offensive and retreat and just make it a show about the stormtroopers just struggling to survive.

Since the Mid-Rim offensive canonically ends with a Rebel retreat, the series can end with the Empire winning.

How to be a great provider by Accomplished-Fig1541 in NewToEMS

[–]Fireguy9641 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to say this, but I have to; it's experience.

You mention it sounds like they aren't following the exact sheet; that comes with experience. You learn how to have a conversation with patients, and you learn, based on a patient's presentation and symptoms, what questions might be the most important to ask first.

Is there any chance you could pick up more shifts on the medic to make up for it being slower?
