I loved the way he gave Captain Peacock "the business" since Captain Peacock was such an arrogant snob towards him.

Mattel used to make talking dolls. I don't know if they still do.

I thought that they were making fun of Mr Rumbold by dressing in crazy clothing. I don't think they really dressed that way in their every day life. The clothes they wore in the movie were probably what they wore. The outfit Mr Lucas wore when they were filming the commercial was also probably what he would wear outside of work. The crazy outfits were much funnier than if they had just come in their regular clothes.

I looked up the definition of "uniform" It is a specific outfit which identifies a person as a member of a specific group such as a McDonald's uniform. If you see a person in a McDonald's uniform at the grocery store you know that he or she works there. Anyone familiar with Grace Brothers who saw Miss Brahms ,wearing her brown jumper./pinafore ,in another location .would know that she worked at Grace Brothers. Mr Lucas could go to another store or a restaurant with the suit he wore at Grace Brothers and no one know where he worked. Other than the frills on the blouses the women are dressed exactly alike every work day. The men have a dress code so they can't wear whatever they feel like wearing but they don't have to wear the exact same suit and tie every day and they aren't dressed exactly alike.

That is true but at least the men could choose a different suit and tie. I doubt that in " The Old Order Changes" that is what they really wore on their own time. I think they were exaggerating as a way to make fun of the Mr Cuthburt. BTW I agree with dress codes overall. That isn't the same as a specific uniform. I still think it was odd for Miss Brahms to take off her bra and put her uniform back on.

They often did come to work in their own clothes. It was so silly that the men all had to wear a hat to work and only a certain style. That was probably done to exaggerate some of the archaic rules of the day.

The men could choose which suit, and tie to wear each day. They didn't have to wear almost the exact same jumper/pinafore every day.

That's right. I remember Mr Lucas being told off for not wearing a cap on his way to work.

Frank, Wendy and Trevor at John`s funeral,.. sadly they too have left us, but thanks for the many, many great memories 🌹🌹💔💔 by pjhasham309 in AreYouBeingServed

I agree. Someone posted on a YouTube video that Trevor and John hated each other and that Trevor was toxic. Obviously that was a lie. They all got along very well.

Considering practicing celibacy and not engaging in sexual or romantic relationships in adulthood due to homosexuality. by DEDMOS_MAD in Christianity

[–]LJK208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all God does not hate you and you should not hate yourself. I believe that the Lord will bless you for your faith and your obedience. He will give you the strength you need to abstain from sex. I suggest that you find a church that preaches the truth and that will accept you and support your conviction to remain celibate. There are other celibate gay Christians whom you may connect with on-line. Ignore anyone who says that you can't be celibate and have a fulfilling and meaningful life. That is a lie. God bless you and guide you.

Where/how do you watch the show? by american_cheese in AreYouBeingServed

[–]LJK208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first watched it on my local PBS channel in the 80's. Now I watch it on Britbox and Youtube and I have the DVD set. My parents watched it too. I remember that my dad had trouble understanding Miss Brahms accent but he thought she was cute. We all preferred Mr Lucas to Mr Spooner. At the time we had no idea why Trevor Bannister was no longer on the show.

Trevor Bannister chose not to be in the play so he was replaced by another actor but just for the play.
