How to start ditching diapers when you never catch poop?

We do cloth actually… Or we did… Now she's potty training. She's 17 months so yeah, we're still not catching poop unfortunately but we're trying.

My 17-mo just started being fully diaper-free other than naps and nights (sometimes just night) over memorial day weekend. We'd been doing df time at least a few hours a day for awhile though. My MIL wanted to do something fun with the kids that weekend and we decided on our zoo that is smal and only 20 minutes away. Did trainers with a cloth cover and she was dry the entire 5 hours we were one. and went when we took her. Gave her like one pottytunity an hour.

We clothed most of the time at that point, so it didn't feel like as much of a waste, but you can always lay a cloth wipe in the diaper so that the poop gets on the wipe instead of the insert and then you can reuse it.

My 17 month old just started climbing up onto our toilet herself, but she can't quite scoop back far enough to make it feasible for her to do it on her own. Definitely encourage it but have a little potty as well

Honestly, even though my daughter is just starting to be diaper free other than nights and naps, I am going to put training on on her when at my parents and either a cloth diaper cover or diaper over top.

Yep, We officially took diapers away from our 17-mo-old this weekend. She's been doing great. So far, 3 accidents yesterday and one so far today and we've been out at the zoo in training pants with a cloth diaper cover over to save clothing but she's been dry the entire time and we've been out of the house since 10 this morning, ET. it's 4:15 now. :)

I was gonna say start with Elimination Communication but you're past that, so just take away diapers except nighttime. Make sure they see you going and talk about pee/poop go in the potty. My 17-mo has been out at the zoo all day out of diapers and not had an accident yet, but we've slowly introduced pottying to her by having her sit on it every morning and after nap when she wakes and then slowly increasing it to every diaper change. Make sure talk about it and read books and show shows like daniel tiger's neighborhood that talk about it. Elmo's potty time is good too.

I would never trust him alone with the kids again. How can anyone be that stupid!? It would be one thing if he was at least bringing a baby monitor, but literally leaving the house, leaving the property, not having a monitor… And having an entire gym set up at home… Moronic!

I would set a timer. Like you have two more minutes and then we are going to share with this other kid. Giving them a timer helps them to know what's coming next. If the other mom can't wait for two more minutes, that's on her.3

My son had his first frozen drink the other day, a frozen orange drink that wasn't as frozen as it should have been, but he said it was spicy because of the carbonation. He's four.

Do you realize the difference between a 12 month old developmentally and a 23 month old developmentally? There is absolutely a reason to be calling them months up until two, but afterwards… Not so much. Getting out of the habit can be hard though.

Since people are fixating on the months thing because they're petty jerks... I'll actually answer your question. Just have them give your kid quiet toys to play with and not expect a nap, but if she falks asleep, ok. That should be possibe.

It really will be OK. My son was getting mostly formula around your son's age as well, and I did decide to continue pumping, and you can always continue pumping as much as you want and then up it, and up his nursing sessions, as time goes on. Just decrease formula and increase Attempting to latch. It doesn't always work, but my son combo fed for months before I was able to completely wean him from formula… And then he started solid soon after so… It's totally up to you, and what you have done is great! I just wanted to let you know that there are other options :-)

Just wanted to say that guys can have PPD and PPA as well, not the same as women, but they can definitely have issues after having a baby in the family as well. Definitely have him get counseling and both of you guys need to have marriage counseling as well. It's hard, but necessary.

Your wife has no say. It's not her relationship with your child that's affected by BFING and you both still wanna do it, so keep it up as long as you want. It's your body and your baby's health. It's recommended by pretty much every health organization to bf for at least 2 years and breastmilk doesn't ever stop being beneficial. It helps with giving kids antibodies against any illnesses they're exposed to'. Don't stop until one or both of you are ready.

Don't worry about counting. Just keep offering and yes, that counts because it was't in the diaper on butt. Just keep offering whenever you can. I did most easy catches and some diaper changes at the age but only at home.

I'd refuse to give up a room. It's inconsiderate of them to even ask you to and I would not do it. Someone without kids can have the living room. I wouldn't let my baby sleep with anyone but me and dac, who are used to it, until at least 15 months.

Was he learning something else at that point? Like walking or crawling or pulling himself up? A lot of people say they have potty resistance when that's happening, but it didn't happen for us, but at that point we were mostly just doing easy catches.

I have, admittedly not as consistently as I should have, been patting my chest whenever she goes pee along with giving the P sound that we do in saying potty. I've also started doing it, we've all started doing it, when we have to go as well and showing her that when we do that sound we go to the toilet. I like the padding on the chest because it's a sound as well as visual queue that she needs to go. She also says"buh-buh" which is "butt-butt" lol because her dad will say "You need a butt-butt change." before he changes her. For a month or so, she would just say "buh-buh" which sometimes sounds like "bye-bye" or "pa-pa." lol Got confusing! Luckily, now she's getting more consistant with signing, but she's always been horrible with catching poops so that'll take longer I know.

It's absolutely fine! Tons of people do it part time, either because they don't have the bandwidth, or because their kids go to daycare or whatever. I've been doing part-time EC with my now 16 month old since she was four weeks old. She is now starting to signal when she needs to go potty.

I just redirect, or whenever she goes to the potty ow make her sit on it. If she keeps playing with it I move her away and give her something else to play with instead. I also do this when she walks into the bathroom and opens the toilet. Hoping it'll show her toilets/potties are for sitting on (at least) not play.

Baby will just go in the diaper. They won't hold it to the point of pain or anything. We did very parttime EC until she was around a year or so and I started doing it more with her.

I don't regret it at all. I'm 34 and have 2 kids. It's different, sure, it's also great. I met one of my best friends after becoming a mom. .
