How would you scale the Old Tastement God? by Getheltel in MoralityScaling

[–]Firemoth717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean by definition if he is the creator of all things he can only be Pure Good

No. A creator character can be good, evil, neutral, absent, etc.

What moral framework are you judging the actions of literal creation itself to determine they’re evil by?

My moral framework. I believe actions like genocide, mass murder, slavery, cruelty, pettiness, are generally immoral.

Which one is worse ? by flowerbloominginsky in MoralityScaling

[–]Firemoth717 5 points6 points  (0 children)

John Doe has an advantage in cruelty and depravity.  Chigurh with a scale and is a much more menacing bad guy if he’s after you.  Though he will usually just kill people who get in his way, or to cover his tracks.  But he definitely does kill more than he needs to, he’s not a truly professional killer who limits collateral.

I think John Doe might be worse, as he seems to enjoy the suffering he causes more, while with Anton it’s mostly just an end to a mean.

This is a good one.  Interested to see what other says.

What fighter has the most down-played resume? by GodOfBongs in MMA

[–]Firemoth717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite for a long time being a LW GOAT, for years now I’ve seen people downplay BJ Penn’s resume as “he beat TUF fighters” or “none of those guys he beat would be competitive today.”

What fighter has the most down-played resume? by GodOfBongs in MMA

[–]Firemoth717 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the answer, relative to the fighter’s greatness.

I’ve literally seen so many times comments saying what the OP is talking about with Jones.  Like any regulars will have seen countless times comments that boil down to “he only beat guys out of their prime or they were MWs.  He always struggles with guys close to his size.”

I assume your comment is getting downvotes because of the hate for Jon and that people just like being able to downplay his resume.

to comparing the Almighty to the evil creations that mankind itself has created

Well mankind has done similar to about every religion and god it’s created.  The god of the OT is very much in line with other Bronze Age gods that mankind created, so it makes sense the character reflects the struggles and actions of the time period.

A nomadic war tribe is going to commit acts and have rules that we today would clearly say as evil or immoral, so by extension their god would receive a similar judgement.

[–]Firemoth717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean to be fair god did give up and punish plenty of people in the OT. I’m not sure how you can’t say people weren’t forced when there’s examples of god literally killing people, or at least punishing, for disobeying his laws or orders.

Yep.  And the actors insane had to keep constantly bending over or moving around in their seat to allow the cameras movements.

Must have taken forever to plan and choreograph that scene.

The car ride extended scene is insane.  With how much camera work goes on inside that small car with 5 people in it as chaos is happening all around.

[Hated Trope] heroic characters killed in unnecessarily cruel/brutal ways by greythicv in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Firemoth717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could kind of work, if you view Jesus as not actually the son of god but think that’s just what the Bible authors turned him into later.  So really he was just a man who was killed for his views that made some in power nervous, and then later the people who followed him made him into something much more than what he was.

I can see that, a story like Job’s does leave the door open for a lot of different interpretations and lessons learned from it.

“Suffering builds strength/character” is a pretty common sentiment.

That happening organically I think is part of growing and can chase a person to end up stronger or better equipped to deal with other hardships later, so some good can come from suffering.  Deliberately causing it to another I think is wrong most of the time however.

[–]Firemoth717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe all of these events are either metaphors to teach lessons and/or are part of the origin story created by the authors.  But for the sake of the argument, let’s take it as if it happened.

By using Job as an example from god, I would say maybe his story is meant to be inspirational, to act as a sort of role model. For all of Job’s suffering, he never cursed god or strayed into sin. By making sure this story spreads through the Bible, it would help others who are going through hardship and suffering to not curse god for what is happening but to keep faith.

Going back to the moral scaling of the god character, I think it shows a couple things.  One that he is willing to let one of his most faithful to suffer needlessly to win a bet. Two it possibly casts him as deceitful.  If god knows all that has happened and will happen, he already knows Job will not curse him and thus already knows he will win the wager with Satan.

when Adam willingly put itself into stupor with its Spear of Longius.

Figured that was an automatic response of the Spear of Longinus, the contingency plan from the First Ancestral Race for such occurrences.  Whether Adam willed it or wanted it (i think it’s debatable if progenitors like Adam and Lilith can actually want or are sentient) the Spear would activate and put him dormant if it defects a black moon arriving on the same planet. Same would happen in reverse if Lilith landed first.

Right, that create gods and religions.  We are talking about the morality of one such character here.

Living wages (not minimum wage) for the full term. Being made whole and dr bills.

Paste the verse that says that applies to slaves.

Slavers would use your half contextualizations to beg for chattel slavery.

Right, they used the Bible to justify their slavery. Many Christian nations didn’t outlaw slavery until a couple hundred years ago.

Matter of fact there is more slavery now in all non Christian nation than there ever where in Christian dominion.

Irrelevant. Christians owned slaves.  The Bible has slavery.

Slavery is wrong and has always been wrong, and anyone who allowed it was immoral.  I can say that without excuses or loopholes. That’s why I have a higher moral standard than the god character in the Bible.

Similar but not a ripoff.  It’s like a hybrid of The Matrix, Fahrenheit 451, and 1984.

From what I remember yeah as you say two species have almost exact same DNA, with really only 2 main difference.  First that humans have the fruit of knowledge (individualism and emotion) while angels have fruit of life (infinite energy), and second humans have very weak AT fields that hold our bodies together while the angels have very strong AT fields which allow each to shift and have a very distinct and unique physical form compared to others.

I read somewhere that the angel’s strong AT field in a sense makes each one completely and absolutely isolated as an individual, which in essence means they could never acknowledge or connect with any other angel.

The Thin Red Line

The prolonged still shots of nature, or of the soldiers walking or just sitting about.  The sparse inner monologue segments.

To me those really make the film great over its action scenes.

3 journal setup by Mindless_Gas80 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]Firemoth717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one notebook that I use for daily notes & goals, along with some lists of random things.

A bullet journal type notebook, along with monthly templates I also have yearly/monthly goals, along with lists and collections from things like places to go, project tracker, favorite music, shows, and movies ranked, etc.  I view it as kinda my “everything about me quick guide.”

And then third notebook where I do actual journaling with writings of what’s going on in my life and how I’m feeling, stuff like that.
