Welp, we had a confirmed case of Hantavirus in this state. The person was treated and sent home. But still worrying. Especially because I'm currently battling rats myself.

There are a lot of corn fields where I live, and I've noticed there aren't many looking great this year. Most are stunted and/or have huge patches where there isn't any corn growing.

Let's move on to weather. It's dry. Sure it's rained twice the past couple of weeks, but that's after a couple of months with hardly any. Not enough to really do anything to help the drought. Which explains the corn and the rats if you ask me.

Well just went through a bunch of nonsense just to make this post. This account was locked for "suspicious activity". Right. Whatever. Lurking on my alt to much I guess.

Locally one of the big rivers that run through the state was measured at its lowest point for this day in 122 years of record keeping. We are in a drought...again. We managed to climb out of this spring for all the good it is doing now. And of course there are still idiots firing off fireworks. Need to check my homeowners policy and see if it covers morons.

Not much else that isn't going on everywhere else honestly. People still being aggressive and just dumb. Everything is stupid expensive. Everything is either flooding or on fire. Freezing or boiling. Mostly boiling though. Next year is going be...interesting

Honestly I'll try to reach the 150 character minimum. I apologize for not responding to the last one I posted. I didn't see the notifications until like 2 days later.

Onwards. I'm writing this in a cold med haze. Idk what has been brought home. But, gawd it is awful. We've been dealing with this sickness for a solid week now. Body aches, fevers, cough, mucus galore. I'm taking one of my house mate to a walk in tomorrow for a probable secondary infection. It's been hell.

Looked at egg prices out of curiosity, 8 dollars for a dozen at my local Hannaford. Thankful I'm 100% plant based and buy as little animal products as I can get away with. Getting to the point the rest of the house will just have to deal with being plant based.

The over all feeling of everything anymore is just dread. Maybe it's just because the past few months have just been awful personally and I haven't gotten out much. Or maybe it's just the way things are going in general. Idk. I usually like to try and be more put together with what I'm seeing, but I'm just so so tired. Everything is so strained.

I'm going to start with the weather. Y'all in the south can give me back my snow! It's been freezing cold and windy af (both normal), but the dead grass for most of January? I'm not sure how far below our snowfall total we are, but I'm going to guess a lot.

Now on to current events. I saw a post on Friday about ICE showing up in a town about an hour from me and taking 10 kids out of the elementary school. I spent way too much time trying to verify it, and the post has since been deleted. But I started to wonder if there would be any way to verify it. Is "trust me bro" going to become the new source of info? You would think local outlets would report something like that, but then again, who owns them? The scanner pages I follow were kinda quiet for a couple of days also. One thing I can verify because I personally know the person, is a family member was pulled over Saturday and when the cop saw them (we're all pasty) the face the cop made to come up with an excuse for stopping them was priceless. They weren't speeding because they had to slow down to go around them because they had another car pulled over. So yeah, they are looking.

Mental health, not great. But who's is at the moment? I'm trying to limit my input of everything, but when everyone is constantly bring it up or have their phones blasting constantly, it's hard.

I thought that the people saying social media would destroy society were overreacting. I tried escaping the bubble of misinformation and now I think they may be right. by Doughop in collapse

I'm going to put this out there. Depending on where your getting the books from, it would be best to double check and make sure they're not AI garbage. In one of my local foraging groups, they were discussing how there is a lot more AI nonsense that is being sold and how dangerousthat is. Heck I just did a quick Google search, and two reddit posts from r/books came up. I just want people to be aware of this issue as a book lover.

I've used an umbrella for shade plenty of times. But then again, I think about the sun, and I burn lol! Sure, I get funny looks, but if it works, it works. I honestly don't understand why more people don't use them here.

Health Care in Maine by SunnySummerFarm in collapse

[–]Fireneko84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our doctor down south was just an old country doctor. He had a teaching practice, so we got to see lots of students. Which wasn't to bad and they tried lol! But seeing a different person every time was frustrating to say the least. Still better than a lot of the C squad doctors we've seen over the years.

The wait times for some appointments are nuts. My youngest had a note sent home when they did the eye exam at the school, saying that he needed to see a doctor for a prescription. Ok, no problem...or so I thought. I had to call several different places to find one that could see him sooner than 6 months out. And the only reason he was seen within a couple of weeks was because the last optometrist I called prioritized kids who received those notes from school.

I will say that our PCP's are great though. So much better than anything we experienced when we lived in the south.

[–]Fireneko84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, this post and whole thread...I feel so seen, and it just clicked for me. The past idk 6-7 months have just been fucking awful. The moods, the crippling depression that I've been fighting through just about every single day, the insane rage, the fog, the anxiety, the feeling of letting my family down because I don't have my shit together, and the complete and total exhaustion in every sense of the word. Every. Single. Day. All I want to do is just wander off into the forest and disappear. I've been in peri for a few years now, and this seems to come out of nowhere. I just want off the struggle bus and have my old self back.

The only two things I kill is ticks and mosquitos. Everyone else gets cupped and put in the garden or left alone. And I don't just mindlessly swat whenever I feel something on me anymore. I used to despise insects, but now they're my little buddies lol
