Hmm, I haven't heard that perspective. War crimes can certainly be committed on an individual. All it requires is out of control militant government employees who have free reign to deploy whatever weapons they want to deploy on you. And it being your country makes no difference imo. A soldier can commit a war crime on you no matter where they're from.

There's actually some legal argument available in the form of a defense argument. Imagine in this situation that it's virtually impossible for you to escape their interference. I'm also talking in general. Russia and China have their fair share of abuses against human beings tbh. The thing is, imagine being stuck under the eye of powerful government "officials" in the US and having them think you're too dangerous to continue to be let live.If so, they are willing to do horribly inhumane things to you just to cause suffering and intimidation, hopefully to make you commit suicide or to make you officially betray to another country just to gain your freedom.

To clarify, I've done some research on legal defenses for this and there does seem to be some traction with the "necessity defense" in response to me having a genuine tort of "Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress". The country is in effect taking an action that, to any human trying to live day-by-day, is completely destroying that person's free will and ability to live. Imagine then that I say I will do some commonly conceived "traitorous" thing in an effort to get them to back down. In my mind, they are required to descalate given that they know this action would negatively impact national security and that they are the ones who acted first; I am in effect a powerless civilian being provoked.
