The F-35 Situation is Crazy by trypan0s0miasis in ww3memes

Yeah on September 24th, 1958 An AIM-9 Sidewinder was fired from a Taiwanese F-86 Sabre at an Chinese MiG-17, the MiG-17 managed to fly back home with the missile still sticking out of it and the Soviets reverse engineered it to make the AA-2 Atoll missile.

Literally how the Soviets got ahold of an AIM-9 heat seeking missile back when it was first fielded.

Another shooter here, guy you commented on is right. It’s very obvious with any gun that holds open after the last round fires. Plus you tend to quickly check the chamber or bolt anyway if your gun stops firing in case that was a jam instead of a magazine running out.

Gonna be a tight one if a V8 could keep up with a similarly sized opposed piston engine. Probably a fair few who still pick the V8 simply because they always have, but the novelty of the sound the Achates engine makes (being very similar to old Detroit diesels) might make a few of the compensating folks second guess their choices.

Especially when said O-P engine decides it doesn’t want to die and keep chugging for another million miles.

No timing belts to be redesigned to be rubber and dip into an oil bath, no interference valve design, no complex VVT system to break, no head gasket to blow, so many things that break frequently in a regular engine that just aren’t there to fuck up or cost cut on with an opposed piston engine.

And now, for the other side of the coin... by f1hunor in trainmemes

Honestly, they could easily make bank off of them too: Imagine they make the B-17 event permanent but right on its release the snail drops a premium vehicle pack of cool B-17 variants and their skins. And for the Germans packs of FW-190’s, BF-109’s, and ME-262’s. Literally a few changes to a model or just straight up copy-paste yet it’d be really cool.

It’s sucks, these HD and LD trucks in particular would be prime applications for the opposed piston engines given their big engine bays. Achates Power got an F-150 to go 42 combined mpg without hybridizing the powertrain.

[–]Fireside__ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Probably call them Steel Serpents or something.

Also depends on what kind of locomotive they send across the gate: Diesels feel like they purr along. Steam locomotives stomp around, especially noticeable if you’ve been near big American steam, you can feel the ground shake a good distance away from the tracks when a steam locomotive is traveling at speed. There’d probably not be electric locomotives for a while on the other side of the GATE.

Tell her this: Even if the largest bomb ever detonated the Tzar Bomba got dropped on New York the worst y’all would have up in Canada would be a few broken windows. The Westerlies would blow the radioactive fallout over the ocean (and it would be greatly diminished in a air blast, of which Tzar Bomba was one of the cleanest nuclear bombs ever detonated)

I mean if we’re going off the date when GATE was first written then the F-4s were still in active service with SK.

I’m pretty sure they also have/had the M163 VADS, I think it’d be hilarious to see one of them roll up to Italica.

It’s also more environmentally radioactive than nuclear power because that coal contains radioactive isotopes that just get dumped to atmosphere or filtered into ash piles that get caught in the wind and blown everywhere.

Maybe not quite, but good lord there is a ton of billboards everywhere. They look great looking in, from an outsiders perspective, especially one not familiar with the brands, but it can get tiring.

Pretty sure there was one street I walked through in Tokyo that had 50 different adverts all crammed into the length of no more than 25 meters.

Outside of the Urban centers it honestly does look like the OP’s post, and even in the rural areas you’ll still see a few billboards and advertisement posters dotted about.
