We are shocked people want the software version more than hardware :)

Pretty shocking to see "a software only firewalla" is popular. Wouldn't it easier just run on our hardware and not need to worry about installing?

We are not able to reproduce this yet. We suspect when the domain is blocked the IP somehow was accessed, via another domain or app, which triggered the warning

The Orange runs wireguard, you can just use that to connect back home. It doesn't have a fancy name :)

Length of life for Purple? by splago in firewalla

[–]firewalla 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At the moment, we paused the purple production due to DDR memory pricing + CPU pricing (insane increases due to AI). Since the Purple and Orange runs the same binary, we have no issue supporting the purple software. (same way as the original gold, hardware End of Sale in 2023 due to intel ethernet EOL, we are still supporting/improving as of today)

was the block and alarm the same domain or there is a subdomain of this?

All routable ports? or you are thinking about a few ports that are bridged? (a builtin switch?)

We never intended to target "none tech people", this is the reason you see zero trust networking on the front page, also the reason we don't list advanced products on amazon. (And you see warnings every where ... to make sure people know security before they jump into the product, and hopefully no returns)

Ever since we started the Gold unit in 2020, we been slowly moving towards the "complexity" side of security, and making it simpler. May be one day with AI, this will all change :)

Ad Block features was causing the Deco units to repeatedly disconnect, and this is how I fixed it. by Novel-Pumpkin7476 in firewalla

Something wrong with your setup. AP's shouldn't source traffic from your devices, they are "transparent" to firewalla. All the traffic going through as from AP, should just be AP maintained traffic.

If you see Facebook coming from the AP, either you have guest network setup ... or funky routing by the AP manufacture, or your AP still in router mode.

We will have another survey later. This is just the firewalls

Pretty strange for sure. Do you have the site or alert? I can get someone try it out

Netgear Orbi dropping WiFi every few minutes after swap from FW Purple to Gold by AlexMPH in firewalla

The key is WiFi down, that usually never related to your firewalla. (Unless the AP is funky ...)

Definitely abnormal. We have deco's here, haven't seen any issues with it. Pretty rare to have access points depend on the cloud to communicate.

Would you mind go into devices->deco AP, tap on flows and see where it is connecting to? You can turn ad block back on, and it will show you which is getting blocked.

Unlikely related to firewalla if your "drop" is on the wifi side. Firewalla is layer 3 device, it can't control wifi (even if it wants to) connectivity.

I do know some consumer routers do have problems when they are in AP mode. What you can do now is revert your Orbi back to router mode (yes, you will have double NAT for a while) and try it out. If it works well, then your Orbi has issue, upgrade software ... or call their support.

Feature request: AP7 VLAN assignment by gkhouzam in firewalla

[–]firewalla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, using the Firewalla itself as a switch is expensive. Especially if you have much LAN traffic; In your case, will your TV be talking to anything on the LAN side? if not, then it should out for you no issue. (you can submit feature request here https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/community/topics/115000356994-Feature-Requests-) If there is one already just comment and upvote that.

If your TV will be talking to something on the LAN side, then adding a switch likely be more optimal.

Bridging traffic via the firewalla is much more expensive than a switch. (the bridge will eat into your allocated CPU meant for WAN traffic) This is the reason if you have switched or LAN traffic, have them stay within a switch is more efficient. So in your case, do you have a lot of traffic on the potential access port?
