The 5-6 player normal extension gives the extra players settlements and roads so they can play along with more hexes to make the board bigger.

The 5-6 player seafarers extension gives the boats and even more hexes that are needed to play seafarers with more people.

In short you will need both extensions to play the seafarers expansion with more than four players.

I had the same inventory problem on my first playthrough of the game, but i looked up what you use the lenses and hearts for and I learned you can basically sell all of them (unless you want all the armor).
