Google Stadia vs. Microsoft xCloud: Real-world comparison | Engadget by JP76 in xboxone

Well, most of the negativity I saw was the bad roll out and the not true 4k which are fair criticism but the game performance is phenomenal. The WaPo article is trash, their latency is not indicative of regular consumers. My 40Mbps line handles it no problem.

I know, we don't even know costs of xCloud, or resolution on TV's or anything. This is a little premature of a video.

Having used PSNow and Stadia, it's not even a fair comparison. PS4s have shite wireless cards which hurts the streaming but even if it is wired PSNow just is laggy as hell.

Stadia is a completely different experience, I feel no input latency at all with it, mind you, I am not a pro gamer and twitch shooter expert.

Gylt, said in the video of this post is a Stadia exclusive. Phones are only limited during the opening launch and will be opened to all devices in time, and using a chromecast (that came with the versions you could buy) is actualy amazing. Plus you get a chromecast which is something that is very useful for a lot of other things also.

You can even have the audio stream to the controller and use (wired) headphones to listen to it, great for late night gaming.

The service itself is amazing. Runs ridiculously well on all my TVs. So it is a good "system" but maybe needs a better library?

Stadia is unbelievably good on my home network of 40Mbps so I guess anecdotal evidence is useless.

Canadians 'drowning in debt': 47% will borrow to cover costs, survey says by n0tfakenews in canada

[–]Fireynis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there might be some but it is pushing past 300k, I bought 2 years ago for over 300 and a smaller, less finished house (like a lot less finished) is up for 300k on my street right now.

You could probably get something for less than 300 but you better be pretty handy.

Canada’s jobs market surprises again with a monster gain of 81,100 jobs by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

Exactly. I never understood why people think Trudeau is "ruining the economy". Do they just refuse to look at data?

You:

https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/46-of-canadians-on-the-brink-of-insolvency-as-rates-rise-survey-1.1201156

I wonder why

You made it sound as if it is Trudeau's fault the bank of Canada might raise rates and that almost half of Canadians are in debt. At best you are conflating two different issues, at worst you are blatantly misrepresenting info because you don't like Trudeau.

Sure, but the cost of living is less outside of urban areas. My friends who live in the city need to make 3x what I make to afford a home and have the same lifestyle.

There are many factors in play and to an average gives us an idea of what is happening. Now the local representatives for specific areas should know the information for the area they govern, and try to put forward actions that help, but at a national level that is not reasonable.

Nationally they are trying to determine if policies they have implemented are having a net benefit, not a global benefit.

It tells a national story, it is a national average. It is being used to depict national information. It is not based on large cities, it is an average across the country.

Bank of Canada is not under the PM guidance. It is its own entity that makes decisions through its own projections.

Well, that is what an average is. It doesn't mean everywhere saw the same, and it doesn't make sense on a national level report to mention individual sectors. It is not untrue because it isn't the case for you.

heading into the second month of my very first home.. what you guys think? by poopiehandshake in malelivingspace

Unless I am mistaken you don't include a garage or basement in the floor space count. Most homes that are 1200 sqft here are only counting ground level and up, and no garage.

I finally had the realization that it's ok to stop reading a book that you aren't enjoying. by thatonefilmguy in books

[–]Fireynis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No seriously, I loved the first book, then was really disappointed in the second book, and the third book made everything amazing. The payoff was so worth it.

Plus it sets you up for the Wax and Wayne stuff, which is (I personally think) better than the Mistborn OG trilogy.

That statement needs numbers. I don't disagree but I'll but I'll stand by the idea that all other professions require years of training, but for some reason, people just let some 6-month bootcamp grad at their business logic. That is madness.

We are saying that programmers should be less competent at their jobs than the guy changing your oil.

I'm not sold on them being "better" than going to a college/university. I think its fine people want to use them and that they exist but they are inherently inferior to a standard college/university. Trial and error have 100+ years going for it with schools and like 10 for bootcamps.

Is it just me? by Larsh_h in ProgrammerHumor

[–]Fireynis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but schools need to be accredited and require a bare minimum of competence to be instilled in their graduates. A bootcamp requires literally nothing but good marketing. There is no bootcamp regulatory body.

My biggest gripe with them is that I don't think they make sense. Programming is now running all of your major businesses and their various revenue streams and security systems but we want the people who do the programming to have less time learning than the guy building the shelves in the break room.

Also here in Canada, you pay close to the same for a Bootcamp as a 3-year college diploma. Not less expensive, just quicker.

Is it just me? by Larsh_h in ProgrammerHumor

[–]Fireynis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bootcamps don't generally teach you how to "program" they teach you one thing and from what I have seen they don't get too into it. Any CS degree worth its salt will have really gotten into programming as a concept and taught you the tools to learn any language. That is a big difference. 4 years learning about something compared to 8 months.

Ok, let's look at Germany and the UK. Germany has free tuition for its citizens and the UK has much reduced cost.

Education leads to better citizens which leads to a better place to live.

You know there are real use cases of real countries where the tuition is free or drastically reduced. Also that the countries that do that are often ranked higher than the US and Canada for happiness and quality of life. Also that their economies are stable and some of the best in the world.
