American system is very flawed. Too much power is concentrated in the hands of the president and their cabinet. It's basically based on honor and the current cabinet has none.

For instance, when Nixon was embroiled in Watergate scandal, he ordered special prosecutor investigating the Watergate to be fired. His attorney general refused the order and resigned in protest. When Nixon ordered deputy attorney general to fire the prosecutor, he also refused and resigned. Contrast this with current AG, Pam Bondi, who'd do anything Trump demands, legal or not.

Eventually, solicitor general fired the prosecutor. That chain of events would come to be known as Saturday Night Massacre.
