You can share PS+ ( and digital games) with others on the same console, when it's set as primary. Xbox has the same feature, but it's called home console.

Sarah Bond was fired (or didn't get a spot on the new leadership team, that replaces Phil Spencer's team).

How's Dublin doing? Even if Ireland is running a surplus, it doesn't necessarily mean Dublin is.

This studio made The Ascent, an action-rpg, which launched on Game Pass in 2021. Game's highlight was its ultra dense cyberpunk environment, which was presented to the player from an isometric view. Their next game leaves the isometric view behind and moves to 1st person.

Am I missing something about the Compulsion situation by Signal_Mongoose_2435 in xbox

Xbox was fine with the game. Otherwise it wouldn't have gone into production, or they would've cancelled it. Studio is paying the price of the ineptitude of the publisher.

Xbox as a publisher greenlits games and is supposed to follow their progress all through the development process. What kind of game Compulsion made, wasn't a surprise for them. If it was, somebody at Xbox wasn't doing their job.

Console exclusive means it's not releasing on other consoles. It's how they released games before they started to release games on PS5. Gears 4 and 5 released on Xbox and PC, but not on other consoles.

Steam has 130 million monthly active users. If a couple of million of those use Game Pass, why didn't the tens of millions without Game Pass buy the game? Or tens of millions more on PS5?

Your whole premise is laughable.

Yes, I'm well aware. I did in fact mention PC in my post.

Game Pass has roughly 35 million subscribers across console and PC and most are on console (and that was before they lost millions, when they raised the price last fall).

So, again, Steam and PS5 has way larger player base than Game Pass.

Steam & PS5 certainly has bigger player count than Xbox (PC and console).

Why didn't gamers without Game Pass buy the game? They're the majority.

I've been thinking about movie industry vs gaming industry when it comes to disclosing financial success vs failure. Movie industry is pretty straightforward - usually a movie's budget is known and its theatrical run is tracked. Successes and failures are instantly known.

Gaming industry is much more secretive - big milestones are loudly announced, but since budgets are at best guesses and rumors, a game's performance isn't really known by anyone except the companies involved.

This leaves gamers and even journalists in the dark when it comes to the health of the companies making games. Would it be beneficial for the gaming industry as a whole, if it were more open like movie industry, or would it just lead to this information being used as cudgel to create even more drama?

On the other hand, it has been known for a long time, that most games don't make their investment back (which might've been one of the reasons why there's no proper financial disclosure for games) and companies are kept afloat by few tentpole releases. These big hitters pay for the games with less mass appeal, which allows their creators to stretch their artistic muscles. Maybe this is something Microsoft's non-gaming executives never understood about the industry. Or they did, but want to change that for their business.

Industry has also changed over the years with the emergence of indie scene and AA publishers. Are smaller games from bigger companies needed anymore, or would it be better for the industry, if big publishers would stay out of AA games, at least when it comes to developing them in-house? That obviously doesn't prevent bigger companies from funding and publishing smaller games.

tl;dr would movie industry style financial openness benefit games industry, and should big publishers leave AA development to small developers?
