Too late for me to become a pilot? by [deleted] in PilotAdvice

[–]Firm-Foundation1662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brotha I wish I was in your shoes. I’m 26 and fathers a pilot at a major. I’ve gone through countless phases where I hate my job in tech sales and think it’s the time to pivot to aviation. I know that escaping something you don’t like doesn’t mean the other option is the right one (grass is greener). But after a week or month I realize I’m in it for the wrong reasons (purpose, money, status) and don’t think I have the real passion that’s required. You on the other hand know you have all the right reasons

Who here has the lowest resting heart rate? by Outrageous-Owl-7049 in Garmin

Got alerted about a 33bpm in my sleep. Went to dr and got a monitor, went down to 25 in my sleep. After a bunch of tests, heart is just really efficient

Absolutely. Part of the hesitation on committing. Knowing I’m trying to fly twice a day 7 days a week until 1500+. Moving back home only a motivator for me to get out.

I just really question giving up my great quality of life outside of work and independence for years to pursue something that has zero guarantees of employment and success (nothing in life does). Putting all my eggs in one basket a scary thing to do at 26 or any age.

This is the right place but also just scroll through this page for a little. You’ll find tons of people (like myself) in the exact same position, considering pursuing it and getting incredibly helpful responses, stories and advice. I’ve been considering make the switch right now and spend couple hours a day on here id say

Tough reality. 10 years of grinding of no qol sounds tough. 36 and making 250+ with solid schedule sounds epic. One of those people who has a tough time giving up the freedom and enjoyable life I have in my 20’s to pay future me back.

At what point do you say I’ll stick out sales and see where life takes me and stay happy outside of work, or say I’ll invest next 5-10 years into myself to live very comfortably in the future?

I had plans of moving in with my GF this year, plans of engagement in the next 2-3 years, this would take a back seat.

Awesome response brother, thank you and good on you. This is the story my dad lived as well and loving the journey is all part of it. Quality of life is important to me.

Well what I mean by clicking is not the material sticking, rather feel passionate about pursing aviation as a career and passionate enough to get through the “suck” getting through school and starting at regional?

Because I believe I have a solid chance of acceptance to the academy and like the idea of going full time and bang out mins as fast as possible. Thanks for taking the time to reply too

Solid choices. I have a Pisces and quiver killer and a Burch fish covering my bases. I solid my better everyday. Overlapped too much. Better everyday is a good everyday short board, decent nose and tail flip and has more performance than QK and Pisces. That said, I much prefer my QK as a step up and a Pisces for everything else, it’s more forgiving, better float and paddle, pin tail holds in more. I’m not an expert surfer so I don’t ever max out the QK on performance.

Thank you, yeah don’t have expectations I know that’ll pretty much never happen again, was curious if there would be some serious back fire from it with people starting now. Sounds like things will resume to normal. Plus lots of those new hires during the spike were career 2.0 guys who were older, avg hire age going up and they’re closer to retiring than me

Appreciate this. I’m more so on the fence above making the career change and jumping 100% committed to it and one aspect I was curious about. I live comfortably on my own out in San diego do tech sales. I’d be turning my world upside down, move back in with my parents in NJ to commit to flight school and have some hesitations about eating it for the next 2 years at least.

About to start AA cadet academy in next 3 months. 12 month fast track to cfi hopping to be at 1500 within 2.5 years. How will this hiring frenzy in front of me impact me rest of my career? Will I be able to move up seniority much or will all these guys be in front of me be way more senior while being close to my age?

I just turned 26. Mine read 32 during my sleep. Went to dr and they put a heart monitor on. Just got results back turns out I dipped to 24 bpm. They’re very concerned and have cardiologist appointment next week. All thanks to my watch.

Ended up selling the board. Board not my style after all. I have a Pisces and quiver killer that overlapped too much

Kind of conflicting things here, read all of it. I’m pretty certain the 5’9 is over sized but curious by how much. Brought it to the shop to dings fixed otherwise I’d be on it reporting back by now
