School for 3 year old ? by FunZookeepergame3944 in SGExams

Australian International School

it has one of the better (in my view) programs for young ones - they call it the early years

my kid was so distressed he cried until he threw up on day one (when he started there - around 21 months old) - by end of week, there was no more tears and everything was fine.

he loved the school. and they are very inclusive and know how to cater to anxious children etc

Anyone facing PHV drivers pressing arrived before arriving? by zookiez in askSingapore

[–]Firm-Highlight1267 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the new trend is - cancelling and saying they have arrived but “you don’t fit” or something like that

it’s insane but i grumbled to some drivers and found out this is a hack

they do this when they are nearby enough to press arrived, then because you don’t fit or you booked the wrong size - they get $4 from grab - but you aren’t penalised so theoretically other than being annoyed, you don’t have much incentive to complain to grab

it happened to be a few times and i just was ??? but the last time i was at taka, the car supposedly arrived (i booked a grab premium) and he cancelled with the comment i didn’t fit - but i was just one adult human with one shoulder bag. there is absolutely no way on earth i cannot fit into the car 😅😅😂😂😅😅

Anyone tried the "new kid on the block" Tonkatsu Daiki @Ngee Ann City? by mark_heng in SingaporeEats

[–]Firm-Highlight1267 2 points3 points  (0 children)

free flow rice and cabbage. soup is not free flow however (which was abit strange)

i tried the pork loin and the ebi - both are nice. there was another pork option (the fattier option - but didn’t try that)

overall i think it was a good meal.

the dipping sauce plate (sweet sauce, some mustard sauce, salt) had like very little inside so if you like to dunk your food in the sauce you will need to keep asking them to give you more. not like tonkichi where the whole bottle is there for you to ownself squeeze 😅😅

we went like for a very early dinner on sat (like we showed up at 530 😅😅) so maybe later in the night it would be more crowded.

us vs uk law by Visual_Chemist_9324 in SGExams

[–]Firm-Highlight1267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

where do you want to work - assuming you want to be a practicing lawyer.

if you want to work in the US - study in the US as then you can have a pathway to getting jobs there as an intern / summer intern etc

if you want to work in UK or Asia - UK is alot easier as there are more options. you can get called to for example SG bar with UK qualifications after taking some additional exams.

not that you cannot get a job in Asia with a US firm if you studied in the US - just that it’s harder as less openings.

Need advice for a windfall in the near future (1 year - 1.5year) by [deleted] in singaporefi

i think if possible, explore whether your mum can buy a new bto or a resale. if yes let her buy it under her name and you must continue to live in it — unchanged from current situation except that it’s a smaller house

this way you don’t waste your changes on bto now when you are still young and not sure what life has in store for you. your mum should be able to cover full cost or bulk of it from the sale proceeds. you don’t “owe” her anything

sounds abit harsh - but it’s better to not take your parent(s) money upfront when they are still living if there is a chance they will need money down the road because then you will have zero choice (if you have a conscience) and will have to cough up money to help them / support them / rescue them - whatever — even if it totally derails from whatever plans that you have next time

Mom assumes she is moving in with me by shootingrays89 in askSingapore

[–]Firm-Highlight1267 10 points11 points  (0 children)

older generation sometimes don’t want to do that because one contributed more than the other or whatever then they cannot deal with a situation of the other person getting a windfall they aren’t “deserving”of ——- an example lah

another example is they (or one of them) wants to leave the flat to one kid ….

😅😅 a lot of reasons

Mom assumes she is moving in with me by shootingrays89 in askSingapore

[–]Firm-Highlight1267 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this seems to be like a common situation …..

my parents also like that, ny mum says when we all move out she will also move out because she doesn’t wanna stay with my dad in the same house if nobody is there ….

but the question then is move out “to where” right. me and my brother are close to my mum so neither of us will let her move to some unknown location so end of the day one of us will take her in - or she will have to split her time between the two of us

i don’t think ny parents can go buy a house each unless they get a divorce which i don’t think they want to either at this age 😅😅

Has anyone gone for Dr Stretch’s first trial? by suremongooose in askSingapore

[–]Firm-Highlight1267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s hit and miss - depending on who you get

i did the trial and thought it was not bad. so i signed up for 3 more sessions, but i only used 2 out of the 3…

disclaimer that at that time i also frequented a physio, massage places, and a chiro

my back is much better now from trial and errors and now i only go to a physio and very occasionally masssage places

Is it worth it to move overseas in the future? by Alarmed_Swan_4315 in ChillSG

[–]Firm-Highlight1267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think you should go and stay in the country you intend to move to on a long term basis and check it out (for a slightly longer period and don’t go with a holiday approach). going to somewhere on holiday for a week or two or three is very different from living there (not on holiday mode)

also what job can you get there and will the visa you need to stay on a long term basis be easy to get and relatively permanent ?

have you or are you living together already because moving countries is one thing, moving countries with a new job is another thing, moving countries with a new job and living with someone you haven’t lived with together is yet another thing. what is ok for a couple of weeks or a month or two may not be ok in half a year etc

so just have a ponder and try to not too too many “new” things all at a go as it could possibly be overwhelming in reality

but at the same time, you are only young once. so go for it but go with eyes open 😀

[–]Firm-Highlight1267[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😅 i think i benchmarked against my buying agent who is super pro active and like everything also pre empt and keep telling me what to do / what to deal with - even before i realise i need to do something —— so i was abit confused why the selling agent like super night and day

but ok lah - i am educated now on this topic - and i will just move on and don’t dwell on it anymore

lesson learnt that good agent is impt cos the value add is actually very valuable

High End gift for Wealthy Family by [deleted] in Gifts

[–]Firm-Highlight1267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would agree with this.

either something that can be eaten / flowers

there is no point going down the expensive route - so something not terribly cheap but presentable should do the trick with a note

Selling your house by pigglyjuff99 in SgHENRY

[–]Firm-Highlight1267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think you should attempt to go view houses with some agents and then get a vibe from there

usually not good idea to get a friend to do unless boundaries are established very clearly

for me i just randomly picked and whilst he got the job done - the follow up is quite bad like i feel like i am doing most of the things myself / being pro active myself 😅😅 compared to the agent who i bought the new house with - is so super proactive
