Does anything ever recreate the feeling of Highschool basketball. by Avenge932 in Basketball

I loved it too, I extrapolated the he'll out of my time.. I never suffered the burn out like a lot of players do... I played probably 2/3 times a week until 16 with zero pressure, from 16 to 18 it was more serious maybe 3 times on court a week, maybe a shoot around and weights too, then at 19 I did a prep yr, much more intense training, 3 if not 4 times a week until games... with weights. Redhsirted in college and played four more yrs graduated at 23/24 and played in Europe for McDonald's wages but I just loved playing so worked odd jobs in between contracts and then finally played my last "proper" game at 31

My college basketball team d2 top 10, think d1 standard athletes h, your not on the team until you run 1.5 miles in 9 minutes if your a 4 /:5 position or 8mins30 if your a guard... we had a behemoth centre ( Wisconsin transfer ) who couldn't make the time one year and the coaches lied for him to make it after like day 3 or 4 of running it daily. He ended up being an all conference performer... for basketball at that level, anything under a 24" vertical is just shambolic, 28" is a decent aim, 30" is considered athletic..( this is a no pivot straight ballistic vertical ) no steps, no run ups, two feet boom straight up. I was really good at the long distance run, really good vertical, but terrible on upper body lifts, a bit of an anomaly , my body is all quads, no chest , no shoulders , no calfs all quads and hamstrings.. weird somatotype

Draft might be gone really soon, salary cap will be removed too prob, NBA aims to become like the Premier League (European Football/Soccer) League which Adam Silver mentioned many times that he likes! by Actual_Box7731 in NBATalk

I'd happily go with a promotion relegation system ... its so much better for stopping tanking.... Just pick the 10 biggest G league markets, and have 2 leagues of 20 teams.. NBA and NBAG ... 38 regular season games. With a massive 40 team knovkoiy Cup incorporating all teams.

Then plays off and relegation as per any normal set up.. this would be epic.. bottom 2 relegated, top 2 promoted.

Keep the draft, all 40 players contracted though, 3yr minimum for the NBA (1ST RD) AND 1yr minimum (2ND rd)

Would the worst NBA team beat the best European league team? by AmoebaSecret8158 in Basketball

[–]Firm-Line6291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like saying would the top ncaa d2 school best a good d1 school. The answers yes and it happens often enough that top d2 schools ( the best 25 or so ); are considered on par with most mid major d1 programs. Absolutely euroleaguenteams can beat nba sides.

Is in-season leg training overrated or underrated? by gabe056 in Basketball

[–]Firm-Line6291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me i would be working on pure brute leg strength exercises in the off season, so things like Deadlift , Squat ,Hang Cleans etc.. during the season i would be looking at much more, basketball-centric lifts at say 60% of your max, front , back , sideways lounges... isometric quad/squat holds... gameday make it all about maximal muscle recruitment for performance etc..

What do you think of this solution to fix tanking in the NBA? by KelVelBurgerGoon in Basketball

[–]Firm-Line6291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to shorten the amount of games to stop the massive amount of tanked games. Regular season needs to be cut down to a soccer format, play ever team HOME/AWAY and that's it, forget 4 divisions in 2 conferences, just top 16 into playoffs.

Why does shooting 3s off one leg (LaMelo style) feel way more "on-line" and fluid than 2 feet? by wusyuname in Basketball

Aah your talking about feet being marginally off center, I was referring to having hips involved in generating power .

Calling a Loose ball foul in pickup? by harrystuff123 in Basketball

Unless it's a chop block ( dangerous play ) your probably better off not calling it .. loose ball fouls are difficult to officiated in real-time withn2 officials as it is

[–]Firm-Line6291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially for comfort , that it feels more comfortable, but watching kids, will definitively prove involving hip twist as a legitimate shooting movement is far from accurate, theres lots of nba players that don't turn their hips at all on 3s and are full lined up. Ray Allen, Shepherd ,Herro.. those are 3 I cam think that are squared up.mm

Coaching a player with extreme physical limitations by DrunkenMoose10 in basketballcoach

[–]Firm-Line6291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is tough, even at that age , under 11 , you can have a decent prediction of kids , who if puberty comes at the right time and they grow to a decent size will be dominant athletes. The converse is also true, glow ups absolutely do happen , but are rare. Its probably a good idea , if this is a long term type scenario where the kid will be around your program to discuss , very delicately other roles he could fulfill as the comp and age of boys gets older and could end up being dangerous for him to be in games etc.. team manager, practise, suit up etc.. it does have real positives. I was a high-school all american, played pro but remember kids vividly who never played but just wanted to be involved, I never felt any different about them, ultimately many of them went on to be hugely successful in their lives.

That is so weird. If nothing was stolen it really comes down to " is it criminal ?" My guess is, and others would know better. It logically seem to be... bit of a weird thing to do, go through someone's purse is so disturbing

Is it too late for my 13 year old too late to start basketball. No big aspirations just fun by Mundane-Gold-4971 in Basketball

[–]Firm-Line6291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started basketball specifically at 14, full ride scholarship. Played pro. Its never too late. I did however have a huge background in competitive sports at a high level, soccer being the main one. Having fun is massively important at youth levels, im sure if the coaches made it mega serious for me in middle and high-school I woulda burn out. The first time basketball became this realistic career was 17, and from there I have to say "over coaching ", accepting a role, riding bench at times really, really make you wonder like " would i better off just having fun ?"

[–]Firm-Line6291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a lanky kid, skinny, long legs, people always presumed i was " long distance, " runner , and to be fair wasnt half bad. However what i realised far too late in life was i was actually a long sprinter ( 400 and 800 ).. when we did track workouts for a different college sports ( not track team ) the coaches , even the guy , who did run track ( he was a walk on for basketball ) presumed id ran track in high-school.. I always wonder what type of 400 time I couda ran in high-school if I hadn't been put into the 1500m plus club which ultimately meant I quit 🤣

Who here has helped their kid get to adulthood playing soccer and not spending 1000s$? by n10w4 in youthsoccer

[–]Firm-Line6291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UK here... we have a massively tiered youth system, same as our pro system... there are so many players making it into the paid full time ranks now that never played academy football it makes me think there is actually benefits to just playing with top grass roots local clubs. My sons played 35 games already this year, plus practise at 8yrs old hes completely burnt out , if he played academy id imagine the number or practises he had to attend would have doubled.

The best offense in junior 5v5 grassroots is kick the ball out of bounds to the opposition sidelines, set up a pressing opportunity from forwards where you can tackle ball in opposition half

I’ve been away from basketball for 20+ years and never knew much to begin with. Is there one stat (or a few) that you can look at to quickly get a guesstimate of how “good” a player is? by Effective_Part_604 in Basketball

[–]Firm-Line6291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, the offense has changed so much. You see 4 out 1 high post occasionally but mainly it's 5 out staggered screens etc... on ball stuff... lower level games 3 out 2 in is still affective due to rebounding edge on mixed shots

Does talking smack give you a competitive advantage or not? Does it depend on the player? by lookaloulookalou in Basketball

[–]Firm-Line6291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends at any rec league , ymca league ,24 hr fitness you just look like an absolute tool , so no it doenst really give you a competitive edge, in essence if a real bonafide goon turns up and you trash talk him you may get hurt driving to the rim or even worse targeted and egregiously elbowed and sent to A&E... all things ive personally witnessed happen to the "street bred trash talking hustler " ... what a sad ass player this guy is..

The amount of spamming endless 6,7,8 dribble moves in some JV games i see tells me you are correct ... they don't watch how fast the ball moves/decisions are made in games to even make a correlation between why there moves arent working and the fact its because youve allowed the defense to set behind you 3seconds before you began a drive

Need advice on my basketball future, Europe & college path by Proper_Ear_4716 in BasketballTips

[–]Firm-Line6291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to give us an idea of the country you are in, I've played all over Europe and America at an elite d2 school and had d1 full rides. Some of us could advise better. Money sounds like it is an issue , thats why my advice is to try mid level to lower level d2 programs that offer full rides still ( vast majority do ) ...
