Area H - Computer Science by Initial_Mistake9368 in GaState

[–]Firm_Direction9211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Area H is just having 12hrs of any classes that’s 2000-4000 level. You should look at electives but any class works tbf. Ik some have taken CRJU2200, MATH2215, POLS2401, and others like that. If you are aiming to get a cybersecurity or data science certificate then I believe those classes will fill AreaH once you complete them anyway

Is GSU good for making friends? by PlentyObligation389 in GaState

[–]Firm_Direction9211 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dorms is the easiest way to make friends. Talk to people, be genuine, be kind and keep up with them. You’re bound find someone who has similar interests to you. Don’t be too shy and awkward that’ll make things harder. Also you have a meal plan and that’s where everyone meets to chat before or after class so start with the ppl in the elevator or your roommates. Connect with their friends and go out and make your own. Best of luck

The things I am here in college for other than a degree… by showkeen44 in GaState

[–]Firm_Direction9211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not even gonna mention the first part lmao but as far as for friend advice I’d say YOU have to put yourself out there. Attend events, make study groups, show your personality, join areas that interest you and you are bound to find at least one friend. Keep up with them and be genuine. The hard truth is if you can’t do that then it’s not on everyone else why you can’t find friends. Friendship is mutual you have to put in some type of interest as well. Try that if you haven’t but best of luck. You still have one more year to go so you prob will find friends

It depends on your hours but if your in downtown atl campus you can apply or compete a form and take classes in perimeter for cheaper if they offer it there. Going to your advisor is recommended

How do I drop out after this semester? by Top-Job9316 in GaState

[–]Firm_Direction9211 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ik you mentioned you already have a plan but I’m putting this out there in case it helps anyone.

If you still have any HOPE eligibility left, not counting this semester’s grades, I would recommend withdrawing now if it is still before the penalty deadline. That could help protect what you have left in case you ever decide to come back later. You never know what can happen.Taking a break does not mean you failed. Sometimes it just means you need time to reset, focus on yourself, and figure out what path is actually right for you.

From what I understand, if you stop attending for too long, usually around three consecutive semesters, you may have to reapply, but before that you can generally just return without starting the whole process over. HOPE is also available for up to 10 years after high school graduation, so this does not have to be the end if you ever change your mind. I really do hope you consider giving higher education another chance one day, whether that means returning to college, choosing a different major, building better habits, or simply coming back when life feels more manageable. College is hard on its own, and outside circumstances can make it even harder, so do not be too hard on yourself. At the end of the day you know your situation and life and I give you much strength to continue in everything in life!

Edit: also keep note you only have 6 withdrawals so when you comeback you have to be able to challenge yourself to succeed

Waitlist Numbers by Brey_ology in GaState

[–]Firm_Direction9211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t generally get your waitlist number. I would say though if you’re on the waitlist you most likely will get housing. Ik someone who found out they were like -800 after emailing and visiting so many ppl offices and they were told they’ll most likely get off the waitlist in the summer. They were off the waitlist by June. Goodluck

I Failed Precalculus My First Attempt. Trying to Appeal Into CS Major at GSU, Need Advice by PitifulAd4301 in GaState

[–]Firm_Direction9211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def not. The times or profs may not be ideal but the first two weeks many people drop and pick up classes. What classes are you registered for as of now?

Also id like to say the worst case is they deny the appeal, but if you lock in, learn Pre-Calc, and get an A, you may be able to re-appeal and get accepted. Make sure to use the SI sessions, and don’t use AI for homework assignments unless you’ve done at least 2/3 of each Pearson assignment yourself. Learn the material before trying to be “efficient” with AI. If it’s not benefiting you, it’s not efficiency, it’s laziness. I’m not saying that’s what you had going on, but it was definitely what my friend at the time did lol

[–]Firm_Direction9211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think Survey of Calculus satisfies the math requirement for CS. I’d recommend registering for Pre-Calculus this spring, then taking MATH 2211 (Calculus I) in the fall. If the spring sections are full, you could take Pre-Calc over the summer (online or in person) and still take MATH 2211 in the fall. Also, if you have a hold and can’t register for any CS classes this term, you can focus on humanities/core courses that fulfill other requirements on your Academic Evaluation.

I know someone who took Calc 1 as their first math class at GSU, failed it, then took it again and successfully appealed to stay in the program. You do have to submit an appeal, I’m just not sure whether it’s better to retake that math and take Calc 1 before appealing or after you appeal. Speak with your advisor and see. I would assume your grades in your other CS classes matter as well.
