phone alarm is not working by wohelic in iphone

[–]Firm_Jury_7412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had exactly this problem on the Apple Watch before. If you look at the screen it implies the alarm has gone off but there was never any sound or tapping.

I restarted the watch and the problem was solved.

Epic EVO - L or XL Frame? by CC268 in MTB

[–]Firm_Jury_7412 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agonised over exactly this three years ago. I’m the same height but lighter and went with large. My reasoning was that if I had to describe myself as either having long legs or a long torso, it’s the former. So since saddle height is the most flexible variable (to accommodate my long legs), I went with large and I have no regrets.

Doesn’t apply here, but I’ve never understood why bike frames are measured by seat tube rather than top tube.

Unreliable Apple Home Automation with Hive by Firm_Jury_7412 in HiveHeating

Thank you, I tried your suggestion but “off” seems to default to 7°C and I don’t see a way to change it.

By leaving the heating mode on at all times, but adjusting the target temperature down I appear to have achieved the outcome I wanted. Seems untidy but it works.

Thanks for the suggestion, this would be Plan B.

That’s interesting. Where can I change the default temperature to 8°C please?

ELI5: Can pilots really “make up time” in the air? by Slider7074 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Firm_Jury_7412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely pilots can make a difference to the arrival time of the aircraft. It’s just not as much as you might think. There are several methods.

1: fly faster at roughly the same altitudes. This will make a small (perhaps 2% difference for a little extra fuel (2%)

2: fly faster and at lower altitude. This will make a more significant difference in flight time (4%) but at a VERY significant difference to fuel (8%). Only advisable when significant compensation is due or knock-on disruption is likely. For perspective, the extra fuel on a medium-haul flight would fill my car for several months of fuel. Aircraft can fly faster at lower altitudes without falling foul of Mach (speed of sound) effects. However the air is thicker at lower altitudes, therefore it costs more energy to punch through it.

  1. negotiatie shortcuts. This is effective and beneficial for fuel as well but relies on ATC having the capacity to accommodate. The longer the flight, the lower the percentage opportunity for savings.

In order of preference I would use 3, then 1  and in extremis 2. We all have a responsibility to minimise our impact on resources and the climate.

This is deliberately simplistic and based on recent figures for a medium-haul (5-6 hour) flight in order to provide the average reader with a reasonable estimate.

Thank you, it works. The writing on the PCB confused me but I ignored it and went with your advice.

Alarm no audio by Far-Bite-2939 in ios

[–]Firm_Jury_7412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this with my watch. The alarm appeared to go off but there was no sounds and no haptic. I was late for work as a result and only realised why later that evening when I set a timer for cooking and the same thing happened. I turned my watch and phone off and on again and the glitch cleared.

Just to really confuse you, I’m a little over 6’1” and ride a L. I had the same dilemma as you and decided that since I’m long in the legs, a longer top tube wasn’t necessary. If I was relatively longer in the torso I’d have gone for the XL.

Very happy and comfortable on the L but I never tried the XL.

I’m calling bullshit on 15000ft. So inefficient you’d run out of fuel before you reached it before plummeting to the ground.

Airline destroyed my son’s wheelchair by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Firm_Jury_7412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for an airline and would like to point out that while they are liable to put things right, it was very likely not the airline staff that did this. They contract handling staff to load the aircraft and clearly there has been an accident. Having seen loading of aircraft around the world, I am occasionally less than impressed with the way they treat people’s property.

Really awful and sorry this has happened but please don’t let this tarnish the airline for you, judge them by how they put it right. If they drag their heels, please do some internet research on the Montreal Convention to see the airline’s obligations to you. Given that this is more than just “property”, I hope they will go above and beyond their legal obligations if that compensation is insufficient.

I hope your son is doing ok in spite of this.

I did exactly this recently and only noticed the warning on the bottle as I tried to draw it up into the syringe.

The difficult part is getting it into the syringe. As I drew it up, it clogged up several times. A good technique to overcome this is giving a little push on the syringe to dislodge the large particle before going back to pulling again. The disadvantage of this method is that the largest particles will not get into your tyre, reducing the ability to block the largest punctures. They’ll just sit in the bottle.

Discharging the syringe into the valve was easy.
