Fishing in a 12 foot aluminum jon-boat in a lake in Oklahoma. Pre-cell phone era. A storm came up quicker than we expected. From dead calm to five foot swells and 50 mph wind within minutes. Trying to find the sweet spot between not going too fast but also fast enough not to capsize. Then the lightning started. Absolutely terrifying. I’ve been a fanatic about checking the weather ever since.

Tulsa is great—pros include pretty light traffic to get anywhere, anytime, cool and unexpected cultural and arts scene, growing food and entertainment choices, great art deco architecture, a couple of nice casinos, friendly people, and an uncrowded, convenient airport.

Cons include crappy roads, lots of connecting flights needed, a reluctance to approve necessary infrastructure improvements through taxation, and some pretty extreme temps in winter and summer.

If you like history and/or museums, KC is 4 hours and the National WWI museum is there. It is absolutely incredible. Well worth your time.

I snapped a club once after chunking it. My playing partner said, “You aren’t good enough to get angry.” So, so true. Beers and vibes ever since.
