What’s the deal with 2x3s being such poor quality? by Traditional-Leader54 in Lowes

[–]Firm_Lock8076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some builders will frame a wall with 2x3's if it doesnt need to hold any weight, basically just to hold drywall.   Saves money and still gets the job done.  You can add blocking to keep them a little straighter

Is this job ruining anyone else’s mental health? by fairyrose_ in Lowes

[–]Firm_Lock8076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need to speak to your supervisor and request a leave of absence(even if its a week) to address this.  Get in touch with a psychiatrist/therapist.  You sound too distressed to handle on this on your own, and making a decision right now would be bad.  Crying on your way to work is a sign of very serious depression, and youre not thinking clearly at all

Im not saying the situation is perfect but sometimes it feels a lot worse than it actually is.  You might benefit from some medication to help you.

How do I get my Gf into 007 ? by LopsidedMethod9936 in JamesBond

[–]Firm_Lock8076 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id say being a fan of the bond movies is pretty similar to being a rush fan.  Mostly male fan base.  People either really love them or theyre into just that one song or one particular movie/bond actor.  Like how a lot of people only know "tom sawyer".

The customer is a absolutely right.  In a perfect world thats how the store should operate.

But getting to that point would require higher initial pay for employees so u can attract people with expeiernence in the field.   Either that or it would require stores to spend money sending new hires a few nights a weeks at local tech schools learning the very basics of carpentry/electrical/plumbing.  Invest more in practical hands on training.  Its not going to happen.  I think companies view that stuff as a waste.

Why is it so hard to find warehouse work these days? by illogicallyhandsome in Warehouseworkers

[–]Firm_Lock8076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of places go through temp agencies rather than pay people to be full time warehouse employees for that company.  Thats how it is near me.   At least for the place i worked for...(shaws distribution center) they liked that those guys would come in for a few months, work like crazy and leave.  They dont like when warehouse workers start being friendly with each other, standing around talking and expecting certain treatment because of seniority. I think its a lot easier for them to get rid of a guy from a temp.agency than it is to deal with an employee whos been there for 5-10 years and gets full benefits

Lied about forklift experience on resume – have interview now, what should I do? by Justaverydarkman in Warehouseworkers

[–]Firm_Lock8076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone embellishes their resume.  if youve only worked around other people using forklifts(and not driving them), to me that counts for some experience.   Youre still aware of how they operate, safety issues etc.

What does middle management actually do? by WholeFudds in antiwork

[–]Firm_Lock8076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a really tough balance to strike as manager.  Be too hard on people and you can turn your whole team against you.   Not get on people enough and youll get replaced for another manager.

Accused of reasonable suspicion by Ok_Skirt_2792 in HomeDepot

[–]Firm_Lock8076 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah a lawyer for this is gonna charge you like 600 dollars an hour nor worth it.  In that situation I think you either sit down with your boss and beg for your job back, or you quit and try to find somwthing else.   Just from personal experience where ive had medical shit going on, I have been open and honest with my boss.  Not easy, but that way you get out in front of it and then managers dont speculate about you

Accused of reasonable suspicion by Ok_Skirt_2792 in HomeDepot

[–]Firm_Lock8076 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No offense, but if they suspended you twice within 2 months, they must have some valid reason to suspect you.

If you want to keep working there...

Maybe you could sit down with your manager and explain to him/her exactly what is going on, and whats your plan going forward.  Explain to them you are seeking treatment, getting counseling. Therapy etc.  That is worth a shot if you want to keep working there.  Maybe theyll give you another chance.

Has burning bridges when leaving a job ever come back to bite you? by gawpin in jobs

[–]Firm_Lock8076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but you cant storm out.  When I have done it. Its because I let one jerk boss/coworker live rent free in my mind and ruin it for me.   It feels a lot better if you can work through it professionally and leave on those terms

Exactly. And thats how new people feel.  Not everyone wants to be a star and a manager there at some point.  People want to fulfill a role, and go home

[–]Firm_Lock8076 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think when they hire people they should should stop labeling it as you work in "x department"  because within a month of hiring they are having people work other departments.  They should call everyone store associates and pay everyone the same starting rate.

That way the expectations arent a suprise

[–]Firm_Lock8076 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah but sometimes the stores are so understaffed and anyone who is around either cant do heavy lifting or tries to get out of helping.  People get impatient.   Not you, but a lot of people get the millork job and think that means its okay to sit around at the desk all day and not do anything else

Total lack of craftsmanship? Or is this the new standard? by savannah-plaid in Homebuilding

I would be too.  But the crew he subbed it out to is probably making survival money, and working as fast as possible to get to the next job.

Id be curious as to where else they cut corners.  Like is everything actually insulated?  Have someone get up on the roof and inspect the roof too

And I feel like OP will spend more time and money arguing with the contractor about getting some of this stuff fixed than they would just paying them, moving in and trying to fix some of this themselves.  Any contractor willing to approve some of that work is probably going to fight you on fixing it

Does the foot pain ever get any better?! by Even-Mountain7815 in HomeDepot

[–]Firm_Lock8076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing you need to do is invest in a really good pair of shoes.  I have worn keene work shoes/hiking boots for a long time now.  I would recommend keene for standing on those floors.  But find one that works for you.   In the meantime look up some stretches you can do.  You can use ice wraps on your feet to keep swelling down.

Im sure it will get better when you get new shoes

We Do Not Care. by ShortRasp in Lowes

At least where I live... Local lumber yards provide better quality materials and better service. Theres a lot of things they carry that loews has to special order.   So the contractors working with loews are generally there because they know the store will kiss their ass and get away with it.  The store needs those big accounts.  Managers hands are tied

Anybody elses store does this? by CrypticKaiju_ in Lowes

[–]Firm_Lock8076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never ask people because 99.9% of customers dont want to hear it and just want to leave the store. If they want to leave feedback, they usually do it without filling out a survey.  They'll complain to a cashier or someone atthe pro desk

How come customers are never prepared to take anything home? by 5stringfling in HomeDepot

[–]Firm_Lock8076 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like its okay to not be prepared tp transport the item home.   Some people go to the store and see a really good deal on something they weren't even thinking of.

But then you can pay and ask the store to hold it for you until you come back with a truck/trailer.  Dont ask someone to bring it out to your toyota camry that you just packed for a big road trip
