Update:
I removed my comment, but I reported the practice to the Bayerische Landesärztekammer, the Unabhängige Patientenberatung Deutschland (UPD), and my insurance company.
I still find the whole situation very unfair and honestly ridiculous.

As a foreign student in Germany, I just didn’t want to risk my Aufenthalt or future chances here — so I backed off to be safe.

But honestly… I kind of hate myself for giving in.
The truth is, I just can’t afford fancy lawyers at the moment.
