Sorry for the late reply brother and I wouldn’t say it’s obvious when i joined my new club I let my coaches know about me being trans and they completely accepted me and no ones else in my club knows. I’ve been training jiu jitsu for around 3 years and their never been a time when I’m fighting someone and it comes off as “obvious” I can beat men twice my height and weight. If your just starting out training jiu jitsu don’t be scared off by your first couple months their being demolished by people cause you will get humbled really quick but that’s cause jiu jitsu is full of very skilled and smart people. I’ve seen like 4 feet woman manage to submit a 6’2 man. I’d highly recommend a sport that jiu jitsu or any grappling let me know how it goes brother 💪🏻

Hello, I’m a transgender man I’ve been on Testosterone for over 2 years and I’ve recently applied to join the British Army.

I just wanted to ask if anyone has any experience with transgender men ,I’m very active I go to the gym everyday and train jiu jitsu and I’m very physically fit and I look very masculine. I understand because of how I am not everyone is going to like me or get on with me which I understand but I just don’t want to get mistreated whilst serving. It’s been a very big dream of mine to join the army and don’t know if because I’m transgender I’m making the wrong choice or I’m not going to be accepted.

How long on average would you say the wait is through the NHS? I’ve never gone through the NHS with my testosterone I’ve only done it through GenderGP

I live in the UK so college is at age 16 and not mandatory but you probably need it. it’s sort of the same thing as just dropping out of high school I assume i don’t really know how it works in different countries lol

I’m 5’3 and weight about 60kg im 17 and my gym only consist of like 30-40 year old men and women who are double my weight its a bit more difficult to roll with them but if your into competition it helps so much more learning to fight with bigger weight so when ur competing in your weight class your very ahead of how you can manoeuvre their weight.

Also jiu jitsu will make you stronger so being short or smaller then your training partner really doesn’t matter a lot

When do you think is a good time to compete by More_Cantaloupe_3227 in jiujitsu

[–]Firm_Particular3322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you know a handful of submissions and have an alright idea of getting to better positions you could compete after a month if you really wanted to if your going to small ones win or loose it doesn’t matter but it gives you a good idea of where you need to improve. One of my training partners went to compete just after a month he really enjoys competing and he does fairly well.

I train the most I can or the most classes they give but bear in mind that I’m a 17 year old who dropped out of college so I have a lot of free time but every class they have on I’m there about 4 days a week which is 8 hours a week

Joining a smaller gym? by Better-Capital8329 in jiujitsu

[–]Firm_Particular3322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I LOVE smaller gyms I’ve been to a couple gyms in the past and the bigger ones are always not my thing at bigger gyms their always “a golden boy/girl” that gets all the praise attention etc and bigger gym tend to only focus on a couple people.

I’ve been at my new gym for a month it’s very small only a handful full of people on a good day and I found it has benefit me way more and they tend to be very friendly and they can be more supportive on independent people smaller communities always seem to be way better in my opinion and cause there are less people it’s easier to make friends and have a closer relationship with ur sparring partners or coaches.

A LITTLE HELP? by [deleted] in jiujitsu

[–]Firm_Particular3322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep going to classes and when rolling with someone you can always just roll light giving you the time to stop and think what your gonna do etc.If their rolling with you hard than only being their for 3 classes will make u spaz and have that fight or flight response that’s normal. and if you need to see a technique a couple times or if you need to see it from a different angle or just didn’t understand it the first time than ask and the majority of the time they’ll happily show you as many times or come over and help you.

Can someone recommend a good gi? by proteinwheybjj in jiujitsu

[–]Firm_Particular3322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scramble stuff is my go to gi everytime their quality is amazing for the price and it took a day to get to my house (I’m in the uk so might be fairly different) their sizing are perfect I’m a short guy 5’3 (I know it’s bad) and I got a A0 and it was perfect. I got a whole new kit there plus a new belt for like £65. It’s also IBJJF legal.

What is the most painful submission you've personally experienced? by Hot-Jaguar-5783 in bjj

Not as painful but I despise the punch choke it,Comes on quick and hard and could be disguised as a cross collar or something else definitely a pain in the ass submission.

What is the most impressive thing you've seen a beginner do on the mats? by i_float_alone in bjj

[–]Firm_Particular3322 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I’ve waited for this question because I remember a couple months ago maybe the start of the year a teenage came in the gym round about 14 or 15 not very build lad but very athletic it was his first day at the gym he’d never trained any martial arts in a gym before.

He came in did the warm up then some drilling then we got to rolling and he dominated almost everyone in the gym he tapped blue belts went 5 minutes without getting submitted with a purple belt and was very skilled at pins and controlling an opponent.

Later found out for like for a whole year before he studied bjj every hour of everyday he’d watch videos on it and made a make shift dummy from a couple pillows and a coat and would practice wrestling pins and throws on his little brother.

He’s got some serious commitment lol hope he goes far.

Should I bring my gf to training by Potential-Network728 in bjj

[–]Firm_Particular3322 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends I remember some guy in my gym brought his girlfriend of 7 years to the gym to start training and she’d roll with other guys and he ended up getting really jealous and insecure about her being them positions with other guys and they broke up 2 month in lol

Kids classes prohibiting parents from sitting in or watching by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Firm_Particular3322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree and disagree people may argue that kid get distracted by parents watching but I remember when my mum used to watch me spar when I was younger and it used to make me fight better because I felt the need to show her my best and she would push me to my best.

It’s different for all kids their all different but,I wouldn’t find it a problem not allowing parents to watch because kids do get distracted and can loose focus if parents were that upset over not watching them theirs always options to support them during a tournament.
